I forgot to mention that I was specifically referring to how Americans handle adaptations of Alan Moore's work, including From Hell. They tend to just "Americanize" foreign films and books while keeping their own interests strictly guarded. On the other hand, the British are producing V for Vendetta, which looks incredibly promising...
P.S.
Look, did you seriously just take that personally? Every single thing I critique, you immediately try to belittle... 😎

Charlize Theron as Aeon Flux, Milla Jovovich as Violet, Keira Knightley as Domino "I am a Bounty Hunter" Harvey, Kate Beckinsale as Selene, or (just a little longer...) Natalie Portman as Evey Hammond?

Who would you pick? 😱

All five? 😱

None of them? 😱

Let's see. Damn... they're all women. What is this? Some kind of feminism in cinema, or are they just aiming for mindless eye candy in the style of Charlie's Angels or Three Wild Angels? No, don't come at me with the accusations of sexism. Based on the trailer, Aeon Flux doesn't look great, and I'm not particularly fond of that actress. Milla Jovovich is even less appealing, though she was excellent in The Fifth Element. And the whole Violet concept seems even stupider, though perhaps better than Underworld. Still, Blade II has a much better story (don't try to argue with me on that one), Domino looks like trash, and I'm just not interested in Selene.
However, I would actually love to see Natalie in V for Vendetta. It’s bound to be good since it’s based on the cult classic comic by Alan Moore, and it's being made by the British, which is always promising. Remember Return of the Swamp Monster (even if it isn't strictly based on his novel, but a different, longer story), The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and Constantine. So, I'll go with Natalie Portman, mostly because I'm not overly thrilled by shaved female heads (at least her favorite book isn't just the Bible, unlike Sandra from BB. Don't know who that is? Perfect.)
P.S.
Dammit, I really hope they make a movie based on my novel one day, just so they can see what a real, masculine character should look like...
What books should a film critic read? in Movies ·
Lawrence Booth2 said:We see it all the time: any self-proclaimed cinephile thinks they’re a critic just by saying whether they liked a movie or not. Most reviews skip over the direction, the editing, or the sound design entirely, focusing instead on the plot or the acting. They basically just mash together some translated snippets from foreign sites with their own opinions and call it "film criticism."
I am interested in which book you would recommend if someone actually wanted to pursue film criticism professionally... 😁😁😁 just for my own curiosity... 😁😁😁

You might try "1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die"—you can find it at a local Barnes & Noble $150 or maybe even in a library. Or, you could always check out my blog; I spend quite a bit of time on it...😎

Hopefully they release that other poster! 😁
Well, Scary Movie was actually decent, even if I wasn't expecting much. If you ignore the random nudity or whatever unnecessary scenes they throw in, there are some solid bits. My favorite has to be when that idiot sticks his head out of the car and slams it right into a beehive, all while the girl is busy... well, you know... with the driver. Pure chaos.
Scary Movie 2—it’s fine, but did the girl really need that much screen time for the bathroom gag? The longer it drags on, the less funny it gets (honestly, it isn't funny at all) and just becomes awkward. Though, the parts where the giant weed tries to hook up with the guy, or the clown under the bed grabbing that... excuse me, that gay man, and then the clown running away with his... things wrapped around his neck...
What a bunch of losers—actually, it's a great flick, especially when the pilot falls out of the plane and pops out of the bushes wearing fake horns, with a Deer Hunter sign in the background. Then you hear a gunshot...
What a bunch of losers 2—watched it a hundred times. Typical amount of filler, but my favorite scene: when Rambo Sheen takes out the villain with a coconut and a bow...
Blank pistol—the first one is good, the second is less funny, and the third is just bad and boring.
Airplane!—that one didn't do anything for me...😳
If you actually want parodies, forget Scary Movie. Just go watch Mel Brooks: High Tension, Silent film, Funny side of history, Hot saddle...

Normally I wouldn't, but I'm in a good mood today.
The thing is, people think I'm a bit of a weirdo because of Evil Dead II; I've watched it a hundred times and it's easily my favorite. 😁 P.S.
If you haven't seen that one, maybe try The Day of the Beast instead—or better yet, Dequint, let's just call that my absolute favorite.
😉

By the way, it’s an excellent and highly entertaining film, actually surpassing even Perdita Durango. I didn't expect the priest to be quite that evil (that scene where he pushes the mime into the abyss is pure madness), and Torrente is a legend!👍 Not to mention that woman in red with the balloons bouncing while she runs... and even Satan himself is pretty terrifying in that goat form...

Also, sugar...😍 Honestly, I’d even take Blade II over the rest...😎 😛 It’s clear you didn't quite grasp my point...

I've been counting down the minutes since I saw the trailer for this one. Less than 24 and a half hours to go...😵 I have a soft spot for those wild flicks like Neighbor and Perdita Durango... Then again, what else could you expect from someone whose all-time favorite is Evil Dead II? 😬 😍 😁

casualotter21 said:Do I really need to repeat myself? This movie is a classic. You’ve got the ultimate buddy duo, Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone. Then there's Teri Hatcher (who played Lois from Lois & Clark). Plus, you have Jack Palance, the guy who earned his reputation as the villain most in need of some Bronch after playing Darth Vader. What more is there to say?

😍 😍 I think it's time for a rewatch, maybe paired with Day of the Beast...

I doubt they’ll ever make Blade 4. From what I can tell, Blade 3 was meant to be the finale of the trilogy—it even says so right on the DVD cover...😕

Did you seriously miss that? They said the exact same thing about the final Friday the 13th installments, and we ended up with eleven of them...😬

1. Die Hard 2
2. Tempt Me, Break Me
3. Dragon Kiss
4. Monty Python and the Meaning of Life
5. Hard Target

The last James Bond I’ll be adding to my VHS collection (no judging, please). This one starring George Clooney and Catherine Zeta-Jones doesn't sound particularly appealing, even if it was directed by the Coen brothers (I mean, Bloody simple and Fargo... I still need The Big Lebowski). I'm debating whether to even bother watching it. Dragon Kiss is another one headed for my VHS shelf; I've always been a fan of Jet Li alongside Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan. As for the rest, I've already seen them: The Meaning of Life is enough for a first viewing (I have to admit, it's the worst Python ever—boring and not funny at all), and Hard Target is decent in parts, but mostly just bad. That scene where he shoots the villain and then kicks him down is incredibly irritating. Are any of you planning on watching these over New Year's Eve?

I’d honestly much rather they just greenlit another Friday the 13th sequel. Eleven films on the subject clearly wasn't enough...🙂

Word on the street is they’re filming a new gem from the Nile starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner (Rose's war remains my all-time favorite black comedy)...
Personally, I'd much rather see a new Evil Dead instead of a remake—especially since it looks like Sam Raimi won't be involved—where Ash ends up in the future fighting cyber-zombies. Ideally, they'd bring back Bruce Campbell for the lead, even if he claims he's too old for it now...
And honestly, give me a sequel to Escape from New York or Los Angeles titled Snake's Revenge. 🙂 It needs Kurt Russell to truly work. 🙂

a Dracula remake (the Coppola version is the best 🙏 ).

But there’s only one Dracula: Count Orlok from the black-and-white classic.

Fine, name at least five remakes that actually work and I'll concede the point...🙂

Great movie. I’ve seen it at least twice—though not nearly enough, if you ask me. If only they’d broadcast it again like they did with the excellent Forbidden Planet.
P.S.
I hear they’re filming a remake of it.🙄 I’m crossing my fingers that the whole idea falls apart...
Ethan Perez97 said:Look, even the original didn't really bother with characterization. My only sympathy went to that kid in the wheelchair.

That guy was easily the worst part of the whole thing. Aside from his obsession with groping women, he isn't a particularly interesting character; he just exists to fill up screen time. Honestly, I felt more for the disabled character in Friday the 13th—if I recall correctly, it was the second installment—who ended up taking an axe to the head...😢
Ethan Perez97 said:You really have to consider both sides. For instance, Cronenberg’s The Fly is a remake, and honestly, it’s one of the best horror films ever made.🙂

You think so? Fair enough. I can wrap my head around something like The Fly or those pieces of 1930s trash, but these others? A remake blog? House of Wax (featuring Paris Hilton 🙂)? Or that recent remake of the Pretazanje? That police station raid from Friday the 13th?
Look, I don't have an issue with remakes in general—it's not like I'm some animal rights activist—but what bothers me is that they're clearly just cash grabs produced by talentless Hollywood hacks who take a perfectly good original and turn it into garbage.
And regarding the Chainsaw... the difference between the original and the remake is that in the original, you actually see the pain on screen, from the wounds to the broken legs... Even though it's thirty years old, it remains a great horror film, even if it doesn't carry quite the same weight it did back in 1973...
