Man, I was just about to upload my favorite photo of a little fish, but right as I finished baking my cake, some illiterate moderator swoops in and locks the thread. 👏

Honestly, I don't give a damn that a few insecure types were calling me names. I'm not even sorry they didn't get banned for it. It just says everything you need to know about the admins and mods here. I guarantee if anyone else called the users fascists and told them where to shove it, they’d be getting a ban at light speed.

Nothing new from this mod and admin crew. Ned Bog, I wish someone around here actually used their brain. It’s either a ban or locking the whole thread. I set my signature back when you lot took power and showed your true colors. You're pathetic—just bottom-of-the-barrel pathetic.

hollowmason64 said:I don’t have an issue with anyone's vocabulary, but I definitely have an issue with the moderator.
And these damn pinned threads... seriously?

Petra - if you aren't capable of handling one single thread on this forum, then just step aside.
Honestly, I'm just fed up with all these people with various complexes who use moderation to fill gaps in their actual lives, which isn't what it's for... and every once in a while, we end up here bickering because of people like that.

You will never, ever see someone from the Women's Corner complaining about why someone didn't get a warning, but we constantly see ourselves losing our cool because some moderator is messing with us through sheer incompetence...
...one shows up and shuts down a thread about babies just because she finds it "disgusting," another comes along and locks a gossip thread that was never even "essential" just because we were talking about someone she knows personally, then a third one arrives knowing full well nobody wants her as a mod, but she wants it so bad that she arranges her own appointment, causing total chaos on the forum. Then you show up for the first time and immediately start clashing with us in the gossip section because you start deleting things that you think shouldn't be there, then you quiet down, leave, and now you're back locking threads—because you clearly aren't capable of managing anything other than threads about oatmeal
Honey, regardless of whether moderation requires a fancy degree or not, it's still a fact that it isn't for everyone. So if you can't do it—why are you even bothering?

I'm quoting the whole post just so it's easier to read.

And to wrap this up—swim, just swim. :

Dana Martin87 said:Just look at how that kid is developing... I was listening to U2 back in first grade while my peers were stuck on Taylor Swift. Every single night, I was watching The Daily Mail while everyone else went to bed after cartoons. By fourth grade, I’d already plowed through the Russian classics just for fun, while my classmates were still reading Segrt Hlapic. Don't even get me started on sexual maturity.

As far as early puberty goes, at least those signs were spotted early.
I remember being terrified that someone in class would find out I had my period or armpit hair because kids back then wouldn't have understood—plus, I was already way ahead of them. I actually waited for someone else in class to start their period so I could finally tell the gym teacher I couldn't participate without having to explain myself. It took over two years for that to happen.
Kids are incredibly insecure during puberty, and for me, the hardest part hit during the lower elementary years. It sucked feeling so "advanced" compared to everyone else.

That's why by middle school, I was totally confident, while other girls were losing their minds over a pimple.😁

It’s not exactly dramatic. But honestly, I wish I had started school a little younger. I would have actually fit in with the other kids. In puberty, that stuff matters, damn it.

Sorry, but this is just 🤣

Dana Martin87 said:I had body hair and swollen-looking breasts by the time I was seven. My mom actually took me to the doctor because she thought something was wrong, but it was just my body developing. I got my period at nine, and by twelve, I was fully grown.
So, what, should I have started school a year earlier just to fit in with the pack?
We should focus on things we can actually control. Honestly, I wish my parents had sent me to school at five, because both physically and emotionally, I was way ahead of everyone else.
Waiting until a child is seven and a half to start school—especially if they're showing signs of early puberty—just because someone is afraid they won't handle failure? That's probably the biggest disservice you could do to a kid.
If my daughter keeps developing at this rate, physically and emotionally, I'm looking into enrolling her when she's five and a half. I just don't know if the system even allows it.

And as for 🤦

I had a Similar Discussion recently with a guy who wanted to vent his own frustrations—he was incredibly bright, the kind of kid whose parents should have pushed him into school way earlier, but they weren't ☕—by trying to force his kid into school at age 6.3 just because the kid can read and write. The problem is, the child is so emotionally immature right now that I honestly think they won't be ready for a classroom for at least another three years.

And, btw, based on what you've posted, your little one seems like a perfectly average kid, maybe even a bit spoiled 😉

I actually started school when I was 6 and a half.
Back in first grade, I was always at the front of the line (so I definitely met that specialist's criteria! 😛)
By sixth grade, I was near the back, and by eighth grade, I was the very last one.
To be honest, my development stayed pretty delayed for a long time. 🥳

Anyway, someone has to be first and someone has to be last! ☕

🤣 That’s probably because you started school way too early.

James Cox6 said:So, last year I was helping out a friend by dropping off some enrollment paperwork for her kid—her boss wouldn't give her the day off, so she asked me to handle the school registration. No big deal.
The office wasn't crowded, which actually worked out because I ended up chatting with a special education specialist. I started asking about early enrollment and maturity levels, and she told me everything you guys have been debating here, plus one thing nobody else mentioned. The conversation went like this:

"Mom, do you have a boy or a girl?" I told her—a girl. "Well, you know," she said, "if you enroll a child at 6 years and 3 months, they might meet the height and weight requirements, but don't mistake that for physical maturity. If they seem short for their age, it’s probably not just about height..."
"You need to realize right from the start that your child might be the least physically developed in the class. They might be at the very bottom of the pack—the last one in the grade to get their period or start developing physically."
"It might sound crazy to you, but these things weigh heavily on those little pre-pubescent minds. You have to remember there are kids in that same class who delayed starting until they were 7 or 8, while yours is starting at 6 and 3 months... Just try to imagine the psychological gap—sometimes up to two years in developmental stages—when hormones kick in and throw all that emotional stability out the window."

So now I'm asking you moms—do you think this becomes a major issue for emotionally immature kids? (I'd prefer answers from moms of girls, since the specialist was specifically talking about female development)

Listening.🙂

To be honest, I think that specialist is a bit much for 🤦 because their arguments don't really hold water when it comes to actual mental health.

My son started school at seven and a half, and my daughter started at six and a half (we didn't have much choice due to birth dates). Both were among the smallest kids in their classes—my son didn't really catch up physically until middle school. But both were top-tier athletes. My daughter is the smartest kid in her grade; she’s tiny, sure, but she's definitely the loudest 😁, and her teacher calls her CEO. She hates being called "little," which is fair, but asking to delay her enrollment just because she's small would be ridiculous. She was mature enough in every other way.

When it was time for my son to start, some people suggested we push for him to start earlier since he was a May baby. We didn't see the point. What, would he be late to something? Laws and age requirements usually exist for a reason based on expert opinion and experience 🤷
.
What's even the point of pushing for early enrollment anyway? 🤷

And honestly, the issues that come with an emotionally immature child can be anything. I just can't wrap my head around why anyone would ever advocate for enrolling an emotionally immature kid early.
Honestly, your only real move here is to just install an ad blocker like AdBlock and call it a day.

Jeffrey Morales4 said:I’ve actually already touched on this over on the Pets forum and I really don't see the point in repeating myself—vibrating collars are used exclusively when working with service dogs, which is perfectly legal and within the rules.
If anyone has an issue with that or how they function, I suppose they should probably just take it up with the relevant Department authorities, because that isn't what we're doing here and I think any further discussion on the matter should probably just end right now.

What we should actually be focusing on here is the conduct of the moderator, who seems to think it's okay to go around labeling people as abusers—which is straight-up libel—and, I guess, misusing their moderator powers.

Oh, come on. Seriously, go look up the actual definition of slander.
Slander is spreading lies. Where exactly is the lie in what brisknomad6 said?

Nicholas King said:And I’m basically giving him a free pass—absolving him of any wrongdoing whatsoever—but where exactly? 😕 Look, I’ll be the first to admit the guy was throwing gasoline on the fire and being straight-up insulting—he absolutely was. But at the end of the day, he was fueling the flames. Now, regarding the moderator's post—it’s sitting right there among the first ten comments in the thread. You can't just hide behind that tired old excuse of "mods aren't online 24/7" when it's that visible. He saw the opening post, and he chose not to step in or issue a sanction. This isn't some minor oversight that requires a user to report it; it’s a failure to act on something clearly presented from the jump.

With that being said, Freedom of speech is something we absolutely have to respect—it’s the bedrock of everything we stand for. I mean, if we start picking and choosing who gets to voice their opinions based on what's considered "acceptable" at any given moment, then we've already lost the plot. It might feel uncomfortable sometimes—and let's be honest, some people say things that are frankly infuriating—but the principle itself remains non-negotiable. If you start chipping away at the right to speak, even for people you personally can't stand, you're essentially inviting the government to decide what your own thoughts are allowed to be. It's a slippery slope, and once you go down it, there's no easy way back. We have to protect the right to dissent, period. And, let’s say, even when it comes to debating racism—the whole "why" and "how" of it all—it's just... well, I suppose we could dive into those discussions too.
So, you can't exactly go around closing, deleting, or handing out punishments to every single thread that dares to touch upon this subject—not if you want to maintain any semblance of fairness.
(...)
That’s what I thought—well, at least that was my initial takeaway when I first sat down to read the opening post. I mean, let's be honest—the way he's positioned is just blatantly racist....

For crying out loud, just make up your mind. 😁

Where on earth did you get the idea that I’m actually advocating for closing things down? Honestly, I have no clue where you're pulling that from—it's a bit of a stretch, don't you think? I suppose I should address this—though I'm not entirely sure where to start given how much has been left unsaid. It feels like we're just drifting through these discussions without any real sense of direction, which is... well, let's just say it's frustrating. Maybe I'm being too pedantic, but there seems to be a recurring pattern here that everyone is simply ignoring. It’s almost as if we've collectively decided to look the other way, which—if you ask me—is a bit much. I guess I'll just lay it out plainly, even if it feels like shouting into a void. What kind of topics would even touch upon this—I mean, what specific areas could we possibly dive into to address such a thing?

😲 whoever pushed Nicholas King to start swearing deserves to be stripped of their credentials 🙂

I mean, who is actually being bothered by it?

It doesn't bother anyone, really. However, I think it would be quite an interesting experiment to occasionally allow those kinds of discussions in the chat, just so you can witness firsthand how quickly a topic spirals out of control within a few hours—assuming you haven't already seen it happen.

It doesn't matter, I was just asking. There are people here who know exactly what's going on. Maybe they'll chime in with some answers.

My point is this: if someone posts something on a public site, you can argue until you're blue in the face about how tacky it is to circulate that link through other sub-forums, but the reality remains that the responsibility lies with the person who put it on the internet in the first place.
Please, let's stop acting as though anyone here thinks it's acceptable for a moderator to dig through the archives to pull out images for public display. Honestly. Timothy Robinson2, I'm looking at you 😁
Discussing "ownership" of things found online in this specific context is, frankly, a bit of a nonsense argument.

I haven't the slightest clue what you're getting at, nor do I understand why you're directing this question toward me. 🤷

Well, it's because you said this:

Jason Morgan said:Once you put a photo out there on the internet, the game is over. Period. Maybe 476 people on Reddit saw it, and maybe they decide to repost it just as easily. If you actually have a grievance against someone specific, then quit being vague—tell me who, what, and where.

🤷

Back to the topic—look, I get flagged occasionally. I turn gray sometimes. But I don't consider myself a troublemaker; honestly, given how much I post, my strike count isn't even that high.
I also hate getting flagged for no reason. I don't complain when I get hit for something legitimate.
But it’s just ridiculous that I can't go into the chat where I usually hang out and vent to the group like, "Man, I just got a stupid ban for this or that."
Seriously, who cares? People make way more of a fuss over these little "bans" than they do about starting a thousand useless threads on PŽK. 🤷

Then why did some girl get slapped with a three-month ban just for posting a picture of a model? The kicker is, she was just reposting a photo he had already shared on Reddit herself.

The idea itself is great, and props to DD for getting it moving.
Unfortunately, the Foodie section is ruled by such a massive amount of concentrated ego that sometimes it's actually nauseating to read.
Some foodies communicate with the rest of the community in a really ugly way, and they don't get a single warning for it. If those same foodies hang out in a thread with two mods from the Foodie section, you automatically start wondering if the mods are protecting them and if they're being objective.
Honestly, Polly, I saw how you handled things with Dlap when she started protesting the contest, and kudos to you. You were a solid moderator and handled all the complaints and dissatisfaction regarding the contest perfectly.
What I’d recommend—and don't think I'm being biased just because I frequent threads with the regulars—is that if you're going to hand out warnings for passive-aggression, then do it fairly across the board, including the foodies. They've produced the most passive-aggressive nonsense I've ever read.
I won't put Dlap on ignore because her advice is genuinely phenomenal, but she also knows how to be incredibly rude to others, and that doesn't get sanctioned (at least, not visibly).
Let me be clear: I'm not saying this so Dlap gets a warning. I'm saying if you're going to moderate fairly, there shouldn't be "protected" people and "unprotected" people. Either everyone who's insulting others gets a warning, or you just admit the Foodie section is a place for bloated egos where insults are allowed.😉

edit: Just to be clear so nobody gets the wrong idea. It’s not just Dlap being difficult, and she isn't the sole reason why the vibe in culinary school is such a mess right now.

🙂
