just for a bit—maybe during the summer or over the holidays—and then eventually just move out entirely.
Eventually, she’ll probably stop living rent-free in your head, too.
When you're dealing with something deep-seated in your own psyche, physical distance isn't going to fix a damn thing. 😉
Keith Fowler43 said:But seriously, what do you have to hide from God? It’s not like you’re going to walk up to your parents and say, "Hey, I'm heading out to get hammered." 😁😁You go out, and then what? It’s not like she doesn't realize people drink alcohol! 🙄 Do you really think your friends are going to run home and tell your parents everything you guys are drinking at parties, or that you're meeting up with "strangers"?
Wow, okay, so this is the actual issue here, not just the mother part. You're twenty years old and still haven't even had sex yet? Good grief! 😲 😁😁
Ultimately, the ball is in your court to make the call. If you decide to go through with it and your mom isn't on board right away, things might get a little rocky at first, but shouldn't all heated moments eventually blow over? Besides, you're her daughter, so if you want to stand your ground, there's no sense in hiding or playing the role of the quiet, obedient little girl forever, right?
You'll find that as the years pass, things tend to smooth out—you won't be asking for permission to head out anymore, you'll just be saying, "Hey, I'm heading out!" 😁
Everything will turn out fine if you truly want things to improve...
If I don't get laid by the time I hit 21, I’m starting a whole new thread. 😁

Don't worry about it, dear. You're just starting to find yourself. With a little luck, you'll realize how important it is to think for yourself and how much your mother's influence fades once you start discovering who you really are.😉 🙂
Just take a deep breath and step bravely into Wonderland.😁
I figured my avatar didn't really match my age anymore. 😳 🤣
Thanks for the pep talk. 🙂
You're always such an inspiration. 🙂
Lately, I’ve realized that one of the biggest things holding me back is this nagging sense of guilt because I’m not being the "perfect little girl" my mother expects. She’s drilled her own set of opinions and beliefs so deep into my head that whenever I do something "wrong"—which really just means anything she wouldn't approve of—I feel like a cartoon character pops up in my mind. It’s her face and her voice, staring at me with this look of pure disappointment or judgment. On a conscious level, I know exactly what I’m doing is fine, but subconsciously, it eats at me. 🙂
For instance, I feel like I have to hide the fact that I grab a drink when I go out, mostly because in her mind, having one cocktail is just a slippery slope straight to alcoholism.🙄 Or I have to keep it under wraps when I meet up with people I met online, because if she found out, she’d launch into a lecture about how there's something wrong with me or why I can't find "normal" friends in person.🙄 I realize I can't change her views, and frankly, I don't want to try. 😁
These are just small, everyday examples, but the cumulative weight of it is exhausting; it creates this constant pressure that’s starting to feel like a neurosis. I worry that when I eventually get a boyfriend, I’ll be too hesitant to be intimate because I know I won't get Mom's blessing. Or, if I do, I’ll end up spiraling into guilt because, deep down, I'll feel like I'm doing something shameful. 😵
Sometimes I have to laugh at myself, thinking about that old saying, "God is watching everything, nothing stays hidden," except in my case, it feels like Mom's eyes are everywhere. 🤣
How do I shake this off? Is anyone else dealing with something similar?
*I'm not some kid; I'm 20 🙈, so please don't mistake this for teen drama. 🙂
Fortune favors the bold. 😲

perhaps they have a few spares lying around 😍
Yeah, I am, honestly curious to see if they respond and what on earth they’ll actually say. 😬
Does anyone know?
Basically, my mom keeps digging through my stuff, so I had this idea: maybe I could just buy her a mouse—or like, a medium-sized rat—and sneak it into her room. I’m thinking once she’s got her own little rodent to deal with, she might finally stop snooping through my things.😁
Twenty years. Three absolute best friends. One of them is actually my cousin. 🙂
Back in middle school and high school, I had what I thought were my "besties," but everything just fell apart. The reasons are messy and honestly, I don't have the energy to revisit them now. Kids will be kids, I guess.
Now that I’m an adult choosing my own circle—and letting people choose me—I actually think the number of real connections will just keep growing year after year. 🙂
Green tea, snacking on small portions five or six times a day, hitting the gym two or three times a week...
It really all comes down to what you're holding onto and whether or not it actually lines up. 😬

Is this some kind of slogan? An ad?😕
On several different threads about gynecologists, I’ve read this exact same sentence—word for word—from a bunch of "different" women.
Come on, doctors at Harni, try to show at least a little imagination. 🤣
I’d take placidjackal36 along. I know for a fact there wouldn't be a single dull moment. 😉
There will always be people like Wolf, but we can actually change the laws so they stop playing right into their hands. 😛
The right wing is going to get absolutely hammered tomorrow. 🙂
It’s not always a given. There are some women out there who don't feel a single thing—no pain, no bleeding, nothing at all.
It’s already exhausting without even having that option 😢
