Tekken (2010) in Movies ·
Dennis Sullivan46 said:Look, when you're adapting a fighting game, you can't really aim for anything beyond a fun little brawl like the first Mortal Kombat. My only hope is that Tekken turns out decent instead of being total garbage like MK 2. On the bright side, the director has actually handled action flicks before, like Marked for Death with Segal and Rapid Fire with Brandon Lee.

Bryan is the best character🙂

jebote... I went through his whole filmography and didn't even catch that... just those series LOL😲😁

Video game movies have become huge in Hollywood lately, right up there with comic book adaptations. But there's a massive gap in quality here. While comics gave us hits like "Batman Begins", "Sin City", "The Dark Knight", and "Watchmen", video game flicks usually tank at the box office and get trashed by critics. Even when you look specifically at fighting games, the track record is pretty pathetic. Aside from "Mortal Kombat", which actually did okay domestically and globally and holds some respect with fans, almost everything else has been a disaster. "Street Fighter" was hyped up as this massive star-studded blockbuster led by Jean-Claude Van Damme, but it ended up being one of the worst movies ever made—and it didn't even make its money back. The sequel, "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li", was even worse. "Mortal Kombat: Annihilation", "Dead or Alive", and several others were just total flops too.
Now it's the turn of one of the biggest fighting franchises out there: "Tekken". This series has pumped out nine installments already, with the latest, "Tekken 6", dropping in 2008, following a run that started all the way back in 1994. The whole thing is backed by Namco, the legends behind "Pac-Man". For this movie, they brought in director Dwight H. Little, who's mostly known for directing episodes of shows like "The Practice", "Prison Break", and "Bones". Since Namco is producing, the budget sits at a modest $35 million, putting it in that mid-tier category. That doesn't mean the action won't hit, though; they hired French stunt coordinator Cyril Raffaelli. You might recognize his work from "District 13", "District 13: Ultimatum", "Live Free or Die Hard", or his choreography in "The Transporter", "The Incredible Hulk", and "Hitman". The cast features some solid names, including guys who actually know how to fight, like Luke Goss, Jon Foo, Gary Daniels, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, and Chiaki Kuriyama. We don't have an American release date yet, but the dates for Japan and the UK are set. It hits the UK on April 5th, and Japan gets it even earlier on March 20th, 2010. Hopefully, the fans of the game and martial arts movies actually get something decent here.

PLOT
It’s 2039. After the World Wars tore civilization apart, governments are a thing of the past, replaced by massive corporations—the biggest being the Mishima Zaibatsu. To keep the restless population in check, the Mishima group sponsors the King of Iron Fist Tournament, or Tekken. Fighters go head-to-head until only one remains, walking away with endless fame and fortune. We see this brutal reality through Jin Kazama, a rebellious teen street fighter who jumps into the tournament to avenge his mother. He blames her death on Heihachi Mishima, the ruthless chairman of the Zaibatsu. Jin knows winning the tournament is his only shot at getting close enough to take Heihachi down, but along the way, he starts facing his own demons and uncovering a conspiracy within Tekken that could end humanity itself.

Matthew Perez72 said:Is that because of the theaters or the distributors?

Distributors usually decide if a movie is actually worth showing in theaters. For example, films like ninja Assassin, Jeniffer's Body, Punisher WarZone, and others were pulled from theaters and sent straight to DVD because they flopped in the US and got trashed by critics. Local distributors just figured those titles wouldn't draw enough of a crowd here to make the theatrical run worth the money...🤷

Ethan Howard45 said:Americans have pumped out a few horror flicks or movies with heavy horror vibes over the last decade:

There's that one "labyrinth" movie (is that even the right name?), where there's some secret passage under Central Park and then things go sideways—I think that old legend Nikolić is in it..
I also read something about some zombie flick, but it sounds like straight-up trash.
Then you've got "Mexican film," which I saw the trailer for (did that even actually come out!?) starring S. Todorović and Sergej Trifunović http://velimir-grgic.com/tekstovi/srpski-film.html
That one is more about snuff, but it definitely flirts with horror.

BTW that zombie horror... you were probably thinking of dead zone

I caught that movie at the Trash film festival last year, and honestly, it wasn't half bad. Sure, it feels trashy, but it was genuinely fun. There were a few total John Carpenter shots in there, and the beginning kept reminding me of Planet Terror... mostly because of the cinematography and colors, and just how that part of the story played out. It’s got some seriously cool frames, alongside some total trash ones (same goes for the dialogue and especially that ridiculous dubbing)... the camera could've been steadier in spots, but I can't really complain... they didn't overdo it too much.

Nope... and I doubt it’ll ever happen here in the States. If I remember right, the first movie didn't even get a theatrical run or a DVD release over here...

Check out the latest updates... they just dropped a new trailer (which is freaking awesome, by the way! 🤣), plus a new poster that looks just like the old one, except they slapped some glowing critic reviews in the background...

Defendor (2010) in Movies ·
Since this project keeps looking better by the day, it’d be a waste to let it get buried in the indie pile. Time to give it some actual spotlight...

It looks like Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass won't be the only flick this year about regular Joes playing superhero, and clearly, Zombieland isn't the only chance we'll get to see Woody Harrelson acting totally unhinged. This time, we've got a dark comedy from Defendor director and writer Peter Stebbings, where Woody plays an average guy who's convinced he's a caped crusader, wandering the streets armed with nothing but "weapons" like paperclips and staplers to fight crime.
Alongside Woody Harrelson, the cast features Kat Dennings, Elias Koteas, and Sandra Oh. The film is slated for a premiere at this year's Sundance Film Festival, followed likely by a limited theatrical run.

crimsontrucker4 said:I just watched the trailer and, honestly, the whole concept seems pretty stupid to me. If you don't pay up, they just show up and rip out your heart, or your kidney, or your liver... then what? Are they just going to leave you there to die?

BTW, Jude Law is a total star. 😁

Yeah, right! Like you're actually gonna pay up now!

This sounds pretty interesting to me, especially since you can draw some parallels to today’s consumer culture and everyone constantly maxing out their credit cards. I wonder if people would still be swiping like crazy if the consequences were a bit more heavy-handed—not quite this extreme, obviously, but maybe like having your house or car automatically repossessed if those debts aren't settled on time.

The Expendables (2010) in Movies ·
Between "The A-Team" and "The Expendables" both hitting screens this year, we've got another flick about a crew of mercenaries/agents/soldiers (whatever you want to call them) doing the dirty work for uncle sam. It's called "The Losers." It's based on the Vertigo comic book series by Green Arrow. The original run actually started back in the '60s under the DC Comics banner, heavily influenced by World War II and written by Robert Kanigher. But since 2004, the whole thing has been handled by Vertigo, and Green Arrow has moved the setting to a totally different vibe.
Work on this project kicked off way back in 2007. Originally, it was supposed to be written and directed by that actor turned decent director, Peter Berg ("The Rundown", "Hancock", "The Kingdom", etc.). For reasons nobody really knows, Berg ended up just taking a writing credit, leaving the directing duties to Sylvain White ("Stomp the Yard"). James Vanderbilt is also credited on the script alongside Berg. As far as the heavy hitters behind the scenes go, we've got legends like Joel Silver ("Predator", "Commando", "Die Hard" series, etc.) and Akiva Goldsman ("Constantin Film", "Mr. & Mrs. Smith", "I Am Legend", etc.) producing. The cast is packed with big names too—Zoe Saldana ("Star Trek", "Avatar"), Jeffrey Dean Morgan ("Watchmen"), Chris Evans ("Fantastic Four", "Street Kings"), Idris Elba, Jason Patric ("Speed 2", "Narc"), Columbus Short, and more. The movie is set to drop on April 9, 2010.
