Frozen 2 (2019) in Movies ·
I’ve got a totally different take on this. Honestly, the sequel blows the first one out of the water. Yeah, the first movie looked gorgeous, but the story was kind of a snooze fest. When I think about the songs from the original, all I can really remember is Let It Go, which is easily the best track in both movies. But in Frozen 2, they actually give us four great songs, and personally, my absolute favorite has to be this one:

The plot here is way stronger—even if it does feel like they ripped off a certain motif a bit 😂😉—and it's definitely got a darker edge to it.
lonemarlin40 said:So, since the OP and I already agreed the first poll was kind of a bust—mostly because everyone could only pick one guy and one girl, which totally watered down the results, plus nobody actually votes on polls anyway—let's give this another shot.

This time around, you can list up to 4 best actors and 4 best actresses.

The idea is that we'll actually rack up enough points for some heavy hitters who got overlooked last time.

We're gonna stick to the rule where guys are written in blue and ladies in red.

I'll drop my list of guys soon too, just drawing a blank right now.

To kick things off:

Jean Reno
Gary Oldman
Morgan Freeman

(still chewing on who gets that 4th spot)

Audrey Hepburn
Ashley Judd

still thinking about the rest of the actresses....

Adding a few more I missed:
Michael Caine , just because he makes acting look so damn effortless,

but man, the women have been tough to pick. I tried thinking of anyone else who could actually carry an entire movie on her own shoulders, and honestly? Not easy. So, I'll throw my vote toward
Jodie Foster , even though she's not exactly my favorite, she can absolutely carry a whole film if she needs to.

And
Sandra Bullock , purely because watching her movies feels easy and breezy. She doesn't get on my nerves.

There are plenty of great actresses out there, but it's rare to find one where I'd sit through a whole flick just for them.
Jerry Martin19 said:*Sigh*... knew this would turn into a debate once I posted that, but hey, I guess I'm good at stirring things up. 🥳

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "younger generation," since I watched the old trilogy before the new one too, but my ranking looks something like this:

Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Episode IV: A New Hope
Episode II: Attack of the Clones

Now, the last two are a toss-up. The actual story and the spirit of Star Wars won't let me put Episode VI: Return of the Jedi in last place, but then again, acting matters to me, so it's hard to put Episode I: The Phantom Menace at the bottom...

Sorry, but those Ewoks and those lame creatures in Jabba's Palace that you wouldn't even see on Sesame Street or The Muppet Show (I like both, by the way), plus the subpar acting, just ruins the vision of Star Wars...
...and on the flip side, the Gungans and Jar Jar Binks are just as annoying, if not worse...

BTW, the new trilogy actually blows the old one out of the water when it comes to acting, and it's packed with much better quotes that I could list all day... ☕
And I don't agree that the new trilogy lacks soul, though I'll admit the old one definitely has more of it. In terms of cinematic quality, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith definitely belongs up there with Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Episode IV: A New Hope, regardless of how much people might want to point fingers... 😬

Liam Neeson over Mark Hamill?! 😲 🙂 Liam Neeson?! If it were just him, fine, but you've got Ewan McGregor (actually convincing), and even little Jake Lloyd outshined Mark Hamill in that movie, let alone if I started trashing Ian McDiarmid or Senator Palpatine...
...not to mention how Natalie Portman totally bombed—pardon my French—compared to Carrie Fisher...
Episode VI: Return of the Jedi only works because they had an incredible Ian McDiarmid and, obviously, Darth Vader with those iconic lines. It wouldn't hold up without them, especially since Mark Hamill was mediocre and Carrie Fisher was just as bad, not to mention Harrison Ford... (at least regarding everything in Return of the Jedi)

This takes me back to the whole "different tastes" thing, and I'll stick to my guns on that one. Peace😉

P.S. Why are you guys even arguing with me?! Can't you tell I'm just here to shut down assholes?🤣

I don't want to, I really don't... but here goes nothing. 🙂

If you're gonna talk about acting, fine, let's go there. Episode I: honestly, Liam Neeson was the only one who actually looked the part in that movie. He was great, and man, I was genuinely bummed when he wasn't around for the rest of the series.
Look, Ewan McGregor is a solid actor, but man, he was completely bland and lifeless here. Honestly, I was pretty disappointed in him during this episode. He definitely made up for it in the next one, though—he was absolutely killer then. 🙂
That kid was totally underwhelming—honestly, a terrible choice. They should've gone with someone like that little guy from The Sixth Sense instead.
Natalie was actually pretty decent here, and she held her own in the next one too, but man, she was totally lifeless in Episode III. Honestly, though, you can't even blame her. It wasn't her fault—it was the script. They just wrote such a brainless role for Padmé.
Honestly, the romance between Han and Leia was handled way better than Padmé and Anakin. Between Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman? There was zero chemistry. Absolutely nothing. 0.00000%.

And when we’re talking about bad acting, honestly, nobody hits the mark quite like Hayden in Episode II. Just straight-up awful.

There you go. You asked for it. 😛

Every single movie from the original trilogy is miles better than anything in the prequel era.

Ummm no, nope, and HARD NO.

Revenge of the Sith and Return of the Jedi (plus A New Hope too) are top tier!

If you don't believe me, go watch Return of the Jedi again—you probably saw it ages ago, haha—but once you realize about 60% of it is basically just a puppet show for kids, you'll change your mind pretty quick. 🙂

Give me a break, someone actually trying to lecture me on what Star Wars is when I literally grew up on them. 🙄

Yeah, no, I am not changing my mind. And no, I haven't "seen them a long time ago"—I have every single movie at home, I've watched them a billion times, and I could analyze them just as many times. This goes for Ivtau22 too.

Look, you guys are clearly a younger generation than me and you see these movies differently. I don't even want to get deep into the Star Wars debate because it's a total rabbit hole. Way too much fighting over opinions.

Star Wars movies were made for entertainment first and foremost, and the old trilogy hits harder there. So ROTJ has Ewoks, big deal. The movie is fun.

I don't feel like listing all the reasons why certain things in the new trilogy suck, but there is zero chance I'm ever saying one of the new ones is better than the classics. The old movies have soul—that thing that makes them timeless. The new ones don't have it, no matter how much people try to ignore it. 😁

I look at the whole set and the final vibe at the end of it all. I don't want to go down individual paths comparing who acted better; I mean, sure, Liam Neeson is better than Mark Hamill, but what matters is the overall impression you get by the time the credits roll.

It's about which movie you actually enjoyed more. 😉

And don't come at me—this is my opinion, my own experience, and I totally get that you might like some of the newer stuff better. Difference in taste, generations, whatever.

Neither I nor you are wrong.
urbanbear4 said:Thanks so much, everyone... I finally decided to take the advice and just watch them in the order they were actually made, so I started yesterday... watched Episode IV... liked it, and I'm diving back in today...🙂

...

P.S. I'm dying to know which movie actually has that quote from Ivataov's signature 😉

Feel free to keep us posted on what you think of the rest of the movies. 🙂
Jerry Martin19 said:Don't listen to coastalcrane76. Watch Star Wars: A New Hope, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi first, then move on to Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

And I'm totally not buying what Andrew Harris7 is selling about Attack of the Clones being trash. Honestly? Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi are way worse. Attack of the Clones is actually fine.

How can you even put Star Wars: Return of the Jedi in the same breath as Star Wars: The Phantom Menace?

All the movies in the original trilogy are miles ahead of anything in the prequel trilogy. Not because of the CGI or all those flashy tricks, but because of the actual vibe and how much fun they are. In the new trilogy, you never really get that feeling that the main characters are an inseparable crew constantly getting themselves into hot water. That’s what happens all the time in the old films.
Fine, sure, the plot has its merits, but there's gotta be something else.
Besides, I actually dig the new trilogy too, just in a different way. 🙂

Bottom line: watch the old trilogy first, then the new stuff. It's the only way to actually appreciate both trilogies for what they really are.
If I were picking which character I’d want to be, I’d go with Alba in Dark Angel—specifically her role in the show. It’s not even because I think the series itself is all that great, it’s just that her character is badass. She knows how to hold her own, she’s incredibly agile, and she’s got those modified cat genes. 😍

Or maybe Catwoman. 😎
Rachel Weisz in The Mummy. 😁

Honestly? Same. I’m such a klutz. I’m always pressing the wrong button, tripping over nothing, dropping stuff, or spilling my Coca-Cola the second I crack the bottle... 🙂
If I ever stepped foot in a pyramid, I’d definitely wake up some ancient mummy, so yeah, I just steer clear of Egypt entirely. 😉

And my guy actually told me we look alike. Me and Rachel—not me and some mummy. 😬

Total agreement here 🤣

Who is the best actress? (Part 2) in Movies ·
Cate Blanchett.

There's way too many actresses being pushed right now, especially when there are so many much better ones out there than this bunch. 🙄

Yeah, whatever... it's an old movie, so I'm guessing everyone already knows the whole plot anyway.
It’s like someone telling me they don't know how *The Sixth Sense* ends. Like, seriously?

But hey, if the mods are watching this, just strip the Spoiler tag from my post. 😵

👍 It’s not even about me, I already watched the movie, but let's not ruin the surprise for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

I remember scrolling through a thread once about the movie > and some random person posted the ending—revealing they were actually ghosts. Of course, that totally killed the vibe for me when I finally sat down to watch it. This isn't quite the same thing, but still... better to keep it under wraps.

Anyway, regarding what you wrote, I agree that the movie would hit harder and stick with you longer if it played out that way, but I'm fine with how it is.

I'm not even the only one who dropped a detail here, go back and read the posts above mine.

Look, in the Spoiler section you can drop a spoiler without a heads-up, but when it's a brand new movie, spoiling is totally banned—especially if you're dumping the ending.

Seriously, just edit your previous post.

Dude, you totally ruined the movie for everyone.

Put a !!! Spoiler!!!!! tag on it and hide it behind a spoiler tag.

neoncanyon39 lonemarlin40 said:So, a sci-fi rom-com... seriously? Who even comes up with this stuff anymore? It sounds like one of those weirdly specific pitches you'd hear floating around a studio office in Burbank. Honestly, I can see it working, though. There's something kind of chaotic about mixing high-concept space tech with all that messy, dramatic relationship stuff. It’s basically just *Dirty Dancing* but instead of a summer camp in the mountains, everyone is stuck on a pressurized shuttle orbiting Saturn or something. Just a total trip. 🤣

Whatever, it’s nothing groundbreaking, but if you're just trying to impress some girl? It'll definitely do the trick.👍

It wasn't exactly a comedy to me. I don't recall seeing any actual comedic elements in there at all. It was just way too much heavy internal monologue and emotional processing, which—let's be real—wasn't funny in the slightest.

Sandra Bullock basically said her old man always knew exactly what was right for her. He gave her the green light to go out there and kill it, and now she’s looking back like, "Yeah, he was actually spot on."
.......
And then he kicked the bucket.

I wouldn't exactly call that a comedy.
The Lake House in Movies ·
I'm actually a huge fan of how Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves work together as a couple. You can tell they're legit. Honestly, I thought I was gonna hate this movie just because of him, but man, was I wrong.

To me, the story is just beautiful. And honestly? Who cares about being thrown into some time paradox? At its core, it’s just about people finding each other in everyday life.

People run into each other all the time at the absolute worst moments, then spend forever waiting for the "right time"... sometimes they know it, sometimes they don't.

That whole vibe of waiting for fate was basically what Serendipity was about, which I loved too. Guess I just have a thing for those kinds of stories. 🙂

Anyway, speaking of time loops and stuff, they definitely made some rookie mistakes, like:

Spoiler

In 2006, she shows her dog a photo from 2004 from that exact same date and tells the dog, "Remember? You didn't like it," because it was snowing. Then she writes down that it's going to snow where he is that day. And it does. But the dog is right there with her, which means he couldn't have been somewhere else on that specific day.

Spoiler

I only caught that because I ended up watching the movie twice. I was home alone so I just couldn't help myself. 😁
But whatever, it doesn't really ruin the whole mood of the film.

@ math_wiz - unless I'm tripping, that movie either hasn't hit theaters yet or just barely came out... lonemarlin40, set me straight if I've got that wrong 🙂

Look, I'm over in Austria right now and it just hit the video stores here. So I have no clue what the deal is back in the States.

northernangler17, I was actually thinking about that paradox with the ending too. But nah, we aren't gonna drop any 😉

Spoilers.
The Lake House in Movies ·
Just finished watching the movie. The Lake House I gotta say, I’m actually pretty surprised because I ended up liking it. Just a heads-up though—I know a lot of you are probably gonna hate this, but hey, I found something that actually works for me.

I'm not gonna sit here and recount the whole damn plot, but I saw the piece over at The Washington Post. here Give me the full rundown. I need every single detail.

So, you've got Sandra Bullock—who’s fine, I guess—and Keanu Reeves, who I honestly can't even wrap my head around, playing this romantic duo. But it’s not your typical Hollywood love story. They don't even meet face-to-face. Instead, they're just swapping letters through some old-school mailbox. The wild part? They aren't even living in the same timeframe. Like, at the exact moment he's reading his mail, he's stuck in 2004, while she's actually living in 2006. Totally trippy.
The whole story is basically just driving home the point that you’ve gotta wait for the right timing. Like, let's be real—the moment they actually met? Total disaster waiting to happen. It was just the wrong time for both of them.

Look, they totally botched that whole time travel paradox subplot—it’s a mess and honestly kind of a headache if you try to overthink it. But, if you just tune that out? It’s actually a super chill, relaxing watch. Just vibe with it and you're good.
Even Keanu Reeves wasn't being his usual irritating self this time.

So... for all you hopeless romantics out there wandering through time, here’s a recommendation... 😉
general Martok said:It honestly blows my mind how much some people look alike when there isn't even a drop of shared blood. I mean, sure, it’s totally normal that Donald and Kiefer Sutherland, or Michael and Kirk Douglas, share some features, but then you’ve got all these other celebs—famous or not—who are basically carbon copies of each other.

One of my favorite examples is the resemblance between actors Richard Herd (who played Admiral Owen Paris on Voyager) and Karl Malden.

Karl Malden:

Honestly, one of my neighbors is a dead ringer for Oliver Mlakar.😁

Omg, how embarrassing... I was totally convinced that was Karl Malden.😳
Look, you merged these two threads, but the title is totally off.

Orlando Bloom IS the new James Bond, but he’s playing a young Bond back in his college days before he even became an agent.

The guy we're actually talking about here is presumably the standard Bond.

I’d normally be tearing him apart right now, but honestly, I haven't seen any of his stuff. He’s not really my type, but maybe there's something there. Since there are a bunch of people in here hyping him up (I'm guessing they've actually watched him), I'm feeling a little torn. Maybe he's got what it takes. Let's just ignore that whole Darko Rundek vibe he's got going on. 😁

Think back to Rutger Hauer. Similar blonde hair, but man, that guy had charisma.

Hopefully the title makes sense now 🥳 😁
