GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
Look, quit assuming things and just listen to what people are actually telling you. Besides, why on earth were you even trying to disable the Intel HD Graphics in the first place?

I don't get what you're missing here. If it says the Nvidia isn't working, then it's not working. It’s pretty straightforward.

You need to install the Nvidia drivers first; otherwise, certain programs—like games—won't recognize the hardware automatically, and for some, you'll have to manually switch over to it...

Just head over to the Acer or Nvidia websites and hunt down the specific drivers meant for your exact laptop model and your version of Windows...

Fair enough. Since the question was actually answered, I’m done here. If you want to keep arguing about this, go talk about TVs instead...

From now on, I’m done wasting my time editing out just the quoted parts. It’s too much work. If you quote more than two or three lines again, I’m just deleting your entire post. Don't say I didn't warn you.

3.5mm to micro USB adapter in Hardware ·
Grace Richardson24 said:We should really give China some credit for their knack for innovation 😁
They can churn out just about any kind of adapter you can imagine. It honestly doesn't even matter if the thing actually works—they'll still manufacture it.
Take a VGA to HDMI converter, for instance. There’s zero actual circuitry involved—it might not even have a functional Wire 😬 inside—
They basically just pair two different plugs together and call it a day—presto, there's your custom adapter.

👍🙂

And why on earth would you think a tablet would have an audio jack on a micro-USB port? That just wouldn't work, unfortunately...

What's the point of a new build if you're still rocking an old CRT monitor? I don't see how much sense that even makes...
Monitor recommendations? in Hardware ·
Just to be safe, take a close look at the connector on your monitor cable. If you're using VGA, those pins are notorious for bending out of shape. If that’s what happened, you’ve got to be incredibly careful when trying to straighten them out because they snap way too easily. You might even want to apply a little heat to the area before trying to nudge them back into place with some tweezers or something similar. Honestly, though, maybe just hand it off to someone who actually knows what they're doing.

Eric Myers5 said:I'm positive it's not the cable—and it's definitely not the graphics card since this rig is brand new, so there's zero chance there. I just need to know where I can take it for service—the monitor is a Samsung.

This is great. Asks for advice and then ignores everything smart people suggest—classic. 👏

Look, if the machine is new, take it back to the store for a warranty claim. Why on earth would you try to fix it yourself? You should have a warranty.

And as for repairs, they need to go to an authorized service center. We could actually give you a recommendation if we knew what city you were even living in...
Dead monitors and clearing CMOS? in Desktops ·
How old is this build actually? What kind of specs are we looking at here? Has the machine ever even run reliably? If it did, what have you swapped out since then? And honestly, are you even sure that Windows DVD isn't bunk...

Pulling the battery just to make the problem vanish isn't a real fix. If I had to guess, you're going to have a hell of a time dealing with whatever issue this is if your motherboard is acting up intermittently like that...

HP is honestly the most obnoxious when it comes to being strict about third-party inks. Epson is definitely the way to go, like my colleague mentioned, and maybe even some Canon models wouldn't be a bad choice either...
Man, kids... this is unprecedented, I'm telling you...

I'm mostly joking, but just so we're clear: hardware-level malware is actually a relatively old trick. Back when hard drives were measured in megabytes—yeah, I was there 😁—we used to think a 20 or 40 MB drive was plenty. When those first 66MB RLL drives hit the market, people lost their minds. Some idiot wrote a little script designed to slam the drive head against the limiter over and over again. After about fifty thousand hits, the head finally loses its mind and gives up the ghost...

If anyone here actually remembers dealing with that (and I mean for real, not just some vague memory 😁), I'll buy you a beer...

Heh... asking direct competitors what they think of one another... bold move. It’s like asking a die-hard Republican what they think about the Democrats... 😁

Nicholas Johnson8, I'm with you on that. And by the way, props to you for the effort—this was a killer review... 👍
Best gaming keyboard under $75? in Computer Peripherals ·
Look, picking a keyboard is personal. You really should try one out before dropping any serious cash. It doesn't matter how big the brand is or how high the price tag is if the thing just feels wrong to you. On the flip side, a cheap unit might actually be perfect if you can hammer away at it endlessly and it still holds up—like this Genius model here:

Most people seem happy with Logitech. It’s a safe bet; you’ll likely be satisfied whether you go with something budget-friendly like the G103 or the G105, or step up to the higher-end stuff like the G13, G510s, or the mechanical G710+.

The selection over the last few years has been pretty solid, and every keyboard caters to a specific crowd:

Ultimately, what you choose depends on your own taste. Honestly, the best move would be to find one in a store and actually touch it to see if it clicks...

I don't even game, but from a purely build-quality standpoint, the Asus Echelon stands out to me.

It's mechanical and uses Cherry MX switches, which are incredibly durable and built to take a beating. 😁 Plus, it's rare to find Cherry MX integrated into something that isn't insanely expensive. 😱 But again, I can't tell you to buy it without knowing if the size, layout, key travel, tactile feel, feedback, or lighting will suit you personally.

If all that sounds like too much work, you won't go wrong starting with something basic, like that first Genius model. Just start gaming, see what happens, and eventually look for a permanent solution. 😁
PSU recommendations? in Desktops ·
That Captain Jack Sparrow unit of yours is probably still under warranty. Honestly, whether you decide to grab a new PSU or not, I think it’d be a waste to pull that Captain Jack Sparrow out of the case just yet. Try to dig up the receipt and send it in for repair. They'll fix the fan, and then you can just sell it when you're done with it.
