Look, if we're being technical about it, the setup is technically wrong because I don't actually have all eight speakers hooked up, but at least those two rear ones are finally making some noise. On the back of my PC case, I've got those three multicolored jacks—you know, the black, green, and that weird light purple one—for the front and rear channels.
First off, sorry if I’m posting this in the wrong thread or if someone already tackled this topic... just didn't want to be that guy.
So, I picked up some Bose 5.1 speakers, hooked everything up exactly how the manual says, but I'm getting absolutely zero sound from the rear two speakers. It's driving me nuts. I have no clue what kind of sound card I'm actually running—does anyone even know where you check that? And is it even possible that my card doesn't actually support surround sound, even though there's a physical jack right there for the rear speakers? The front three and the subwoofer are working perfectly fine, which makes no sense. I went into the Control Panel, navigated over to Sound and Audio Devices, and messed around in the Advanced Audio Settings to set it to a 5.1 setup, but still nothing...
Sorry if these questions seem a bit amateurish, I'm really not an expert with this kind of hardware, so I'm a bit lost on what to do next. Any help at all would be massively appreciated.
EDIT:
Never mind, figured it out! I switched the configuration to a 7.1 setup and suddenly they started working. Weird, but it works.
Thanks, but my budget just took a sudden, massive leap upward, so now I can actually afford to head over to $500. Is there anything out there that actually beats this LG, or should I just stick with what I've got?
I think it’s finally time to put my old LG monitor out to pasture—it’s been grinding away for 11 years now... so I was browsing around online and stumbled upon this HP model:
Is this actually a decent monitor, or can you guys point me toward something better in this price range ($15 - $433)? I mainly want it for gaming, but honestly, looking at all these specs, they all seem pretty much the same to me... I don't even really understand half of what these terms mean.
Alright, let me throw in a few thoughts myself, even if I am a couple of days late to the party.
TV on the Radio totally blew me away—honestly, I was almost tempted to bail right after their second song, but damn it, Mastodon is Mastodon. Those guys from Atlanta absolutely crushed it. Technically? Flawless. My only gripe was that they felt a little disconnected from the crowd, just a bit distant... Anyway, an hour later I headed over to see Cypress Hill, who I thought put on a killer set too. Though, if I’m being real, I wish they had brought a full band along; everything sounds so much punchier live when there's a real group behind them, but hey, we got a solid run of tracks from their first three albums. But man, Grinderman? Easily the best set of the festival so far (at least from what I managed to catch). Just pure, raw energy... Nick Cave and Ellis are absolute madmen, and the musicianship was top-tier... Everything was just incredible, and I spent the entire next day humming melodies under my breath. What a way to wrap up the festival.
Just wanted to touch on the Arcade Fire set. Full disclosure right out of the gate: I don't know a single one of their songs, but let me tell you, it was anything but boring. Honestly, I was actually bummed when they didn't come back out for an encore. The sheer energy those guys pour onto that stage is unreal. You could tell we were watching a band operating at absolute peak performance... and I have zero regrets about catching them live.
The Doors actually caught me totally off guard in the best way possible. My only regret is that we had to ditch them to go see Jamiroquai, which—let's be real—is just kind of "meh" to me. They put on a professional show, sure, but it lacked that certain something...
But for me, the real highlight today is definitely Dan D (Mastodon, Grinderman, Cypress Hill...). The only problem is trying to figure out how to squeeze everything into the schedule, even with this killer lineup.
The schedule is an absolute disaster. They crammed everything into day two, and of course, my plans are totally trashed because Cypress Hill overlaps with Mastodon, and then Grinderman clashes right with Overflow. Complete idiots...
Honestly, this movie was just as hilarious as the first one. Alan absolutely killed me at the end when he tosses that anchor off the speedboat... and man, those credits scenes? Just brutal.
I’ve got nothing against a happy ending as long as it actually makes sense within the context of the story. Honestly, crafting some depressing, soul-crushing finale just because you think it looks cool or "different" from everything else out there? That's just lazy filmmaking to me. At the end of the day, if the conclusion flows naturally from the rest of the movie and feels earned, I don't care if it's happy or tragic...
Man, every single time he’s on screen, he just radiates this insane level of wisdom and calm. It’s like he’s operating on a completely different frequency than everyone else in the cast... He’s just fundamentally on a higher plane than the rest of the actors standing next to him. There's this magnetic charisma about him that you can practically feel pulsing off the screen.
Look, I already said it—it’s not like he bugs me so much that I’d refuse to sit through one of his movies. Not at all. The guy actually stars in some seriously great films... it's just that, personally? I don't really consider him to be an all-time, top-tier actor.
I’ve just never been able to fully connect with Denzel. I mean, look, it’s not like he irritates me enough to skip his movies entirely, but it honestly feels like he’s playing the exact same character over and over again. In my opinion, he’s one of the most overrated actors out there...
Edward Price6 said:Did you catch it in 3D? How was it?
Honestly, the 3D was totally pointless. It didn't add anything to the experience. The movie itself was fine—nothing groundbreaking or mind-blowing, but still a fun watch...
Absolute blast of a movie, but honestly? Don't bother if you aren't already a fan of Will Ferrell, because this is just peak, quintessential Ferrell... It’s his whole vibe. I have to give props to the soundtrack though, it's killer (think Wolfmother, The White Stripes, RATM...).
