I feel like every time a big trade rumor starts swirling, it just highlights how much pressure teams are under to chase immediate glory instead of sticking to a long-term plan. Is it even worth sacrificing your future assets just to get one veteran piece for a championship run?

The Little Mermaid (2023)

Ursula is basically Melissa McCarthy—total white trash vibes, obviously. But honestly, it’s kind of interesting how in the animated version, Ursula is basically the blueprint for any plus-sized drag queen (especially those vocal performances). I guess we were seeing "progressiveness" back in '94 or whenever.

I’m still a fan. I actually binged both sequels back-to-back—yeah, my bad, a total guilty pleasure move, but they were finally out at the same time—and honestly? Both work just as well as the first one.
The Storyline is beautifully insane in both films, the casting is spot on, the action is great, and it really has that certain charm. Mr. Darcy is everything, and even though he carries about 80% of the movie, I could totally see them continuing the franchise without him. The real question is whether they’ll have enough ideas for more of those crazy stunts that somehow make perfect sense in a movie like this.
I’m rooting for them, because this stuff is just pure, ridiculous fun.

Good movie, and Natalie Portman is great. As someone who considers themselves an average fan of Jacqueline Kennedy’s life and legacy, I can't really walk away with a definitive take on her character—but maybe that was the whole point. Was she just a woman unlucky enough to be in love with a guy who couldn't keep it in his pants, only for him to die in her arms and leave her in a fog? Or was she like him—part of a massive ego trip, convinced she could turn the presidential family into American royalty? Maybe she's just mourning the fact that the dream died, leaving behind nothing but the memory of a funeral bigger than Abraham Lincoln's and the fact that she had impeccable style. Or maybe it's a mix of both.
It actually lets you sit with her as a real person for a moment, which I think is a definite win after watching.
The soundtrack is interesting, and I liked how the direction blended interviews, confessions from the clergy, and flashbacks. It doesn't drag, even though there isn't actually much "happening" in terms of plot.
Solid 8/10.

It’s a good thing we can basically read the entire plot from every single teaser and trailer nowadays. 🙄

The movie has all the ingredients to be, I don't know, maybe not a masterpiece, but at least solid. You've got a decent twist with the non-linear timeline—Sir Tarzan heading back from civilization to the jungle instead of the other way around. Then there's Skarsgard and Margot, who are obviously stunning, Waltz playing his usual reliable villain role, and even S. L. Jackson, who is always a good addition. The cinematography is beautiful and the locations look great, but at the end of the day, the final product feels pretty lukewarm and underwhelming.
Just a 6/10. I’d recommend watching it if you just want to see a shirtless Alex for some reason. 🙂

Terrible reviews, garbage CGI, a trash trailer, and Gerard Butler plus that incestuous Lannister guy.

I actually really liked it. It’s visually stunning—New York City looks great on screen 😍 Crowe was fantastic; he brought this emotional grit and persistence to the role. Even though there was a real risk of it turning into a total tear-jerker, somehow, all things considered, it didn't miss the mark. It ended up being a genuinely beautiful movie with a happy ending that felt earned. Olga is gorgeous 😍

If there were a blacklist of people banned from acting for life, she and her guy would be right at the top. Honestly, what a joke.

I also just remembered, Jessica Biel. Her husband, who’s supposedly a singer by trade, actually has more acting chops than she does 🙄🙄

I’m with you on Jennifer Aniston. Honestly, a lot of those actors who make the jump from television struggle because they can't shake off their TV personas. Part of it is that, and part of it is they’re just mediocre actors who can only play one specific type of character and nothing else. (Though we’ve already beaten this to death in other television 😬 threads)
Then there’s that whole wave of young superheroes. For instance, I found Captain America to be a totally miserable character, even after seeing him in a few movies.
Jessica Alba is another one—just a pretty average actress who seems to pop up everywhere. Same with Jennifer Gardner. And little Chris Hemsworth is terrible; the older version is actually a decent actor.
I could never get into Kirsten Dunst either. Even though she’s been in plenty of different films, she always feels exactly the same to me. 🤷

What kind of nerdgasm is this? We’ve got Lannister, Abed Nadir, Stackhouse, and little Mississippi River starring in some kick-ass, middle-age trash horror comedy. I'm expecting a total spectacle 🙏 🙏 🙏

I caught the trailer for this before Twilight. Unlike all those other trailers that preceded that absolute mess (Beautiful Creatures, some new shit by Stephenie Meyer), this actually looks like it could be a decent parody.🤷 I mean, I really hope it’s a spoof, and that the zombies don't start sparkling in the sunlight or anything like that. 😉

The most intense part has to be when his crew finally manages to corner him, and then they actually let him call his daughter on her cell just to explain where he is, how everything went down, and what she should do next... 🙏 🙏 🙏
yeah 🙄 🙄
Bad movie. Honestly expected way more after the first one was actually decent. First off, you can tell Liam Neeson is just going through the motions here... the acting is just subpar. The kid and Fran are terrible, and Liam is basically just punching a clock. As for Ray, he’s playing the typical tough guy trope we see in every single action flick—just yelling and nothing of substance. The action scenes? Fine, I guess. The taxi chase through Istanbul is okay, and that final fight, Neeson vs. the Main Page Boy, is cool enough, but everything else is mediocre. That whole bit where he calls his daughter from captivity and they have this casual chat while she traverses all of Istanbul to find him is totally unrealistic 🙄 just like Ray working with Sherbegie's lack of logic. He knows how capable this guy is and has plenty of resources at his disposal, yet it never occurs to him to just put a single guard in the room with him? Bitch, please. 🙄
It would've been much better without the naive nonsense and with more actual action. 5/10

wearygull40 said:Ugh, this modern girl thing. I think it’s Lost in Translation. That was actually what I had in mind, though a plot like that is either genius or a total disaster. 😁 But I'll give it a shot. I need something funny. 😁
Yeah, true. And look, it's not exactly peak cinema compared to the others, but it's fun and lighthearted. The female lead is a bit annoying, but some parts are just hilarious—like how they messed with the plot. The way switching her into the Pride & Prejudice timeline while Liz ends up in the real world messes everything up; it's pure chaos, which makes it great. So yeah, worth a rewatch if you just want a laugh.
@Clint Yeah, that's the topic. I remember we were getting pretty heated about the Jane Eyre thread, but I didn't notice they changed the title in the meantime 👍

So, if anyone has some new recommendations, let me know. Hopefully this hasn't been covered yet, but if it has, feel free to point me in the right direction. 🙂
Thanks 🙂
There was actually a thread on a TV forum back when Jane Eyre was airing, and people were going at it for about 50 pages regarding period dramas. If you feel like digging through the archives, you'll definitely find something you haven't watched yet. 😉
Watch the 2006 version of Jane Eyre if you haven't already. Just go for it. 🙏 🙏
Wuthering Heights with Juliette Binoche.
The Tudors.
You've probably seen Becoming Jane and anything else related to Austen... there's this really cute, funny mini-series where a modern woman somehow ends up inside Pride and Prejudice and messes up the whole plot. It's hilarious, but I can't for the life of me remember the title right now. 😵
