Is this whole thing seriously turning into some massive 'Snakes on a Plane' level disaster?

Watching Liam Neeson try to play this agile action hero is honestly like getting punched in the face, it's just that bad. I haven't even seen his first movie, but I've caught some of his other thrillers, you know, like that unknown one and stuff. He just feels so fake and unconvincing to me, it's painful. I'd say I'm skipping it, but man... it's such a struggle to look away.

Just watch the first movie. Trust me, seeing Liam in action will blow your mind. 🙂
It's a great action flick, and honestly, the whole badass persona suits Neeson perfectly (I'll admit, it caught me off guard too, even though I've been a fan of his other work for ages). Basically, highly recommended. 👍

Man, I got chills from the very first second. The soundtrack is just stunning—both the instrumentals and the vocals. I was just a baby back then, but I practically bullied my parents into buying it for me. It’s probably one of the few actual physical CDs I still own. 🙏 🙏

From 3:30, that epic finale where Simba finally takes back his "throne"... I cry every single time. Every. Single. Time. 🙏

wiredraven82 said:Look, I realize the title of this thread is a bit unconventional—I honestly couldn't figure out how to phrase it without being specific about what I mean—but I'm talking about those actors who play those certain types of roles, the real "bad Mother Fucker" types you absolutely wouldn't want to cross 😁

Essentially, I’m referring to actors who have effectively "bought" that persona of a hardened, gritty "bad mother fucker" through their performances, even when they're playing the good guys (which is usually when it's most effective)... For me personally, there is only one true icon in this category, and he always will be; if I think about it, he basically pioneered that whole "unorthodox cop" and "bad mother fucker" archetype, which applies to his western films as well—of course, we're talking about none other than Clint Eastwood 🙂

As for the others, my votes would go to Samuel L. Jackson (who is actually the reason I'm targeting this vibe in the poll and why it's named after him), Jason Statham, and the mustachioed Burt Reynolds 🤣—that guy with the mustache and the look, just a total rebel type 😁
Joe Pesci is also a heavy hitter here; looking at his role in Goodfellas, you definitely wouldn't want to try closing any business deals with him 🙂

Bruce Willis carries that image too, though in many cases, his portrayal feels almost overly aggressive—as if he's just leaning into the reputation—but he's still a bad mother fucker... Anyway, I hope you all get the point of this topic, and my apologies if I missed any of your favorites in the poll

P.S.: My apologies for not including Samuel L. Jackson in the options; I just realized he isn't in the poll, which is unbelievable... I guess I was so focused on his specific role regarding the thread title that I forgot to actually list him. Deepest apologies—please just mention him in the comments if he's 🙂

Still looking at this poll. Where is SLJ? He was the first person who popped into my head before I even opened the thread. 🙏🙏
I'd agree on Eastwood, too. Those two feel like the perfect fit for this category. Guys like Vin Diesel feel more like muscle-for-hire without much character; they don't really belong here. Maybe Jason, in something like Transporter, or maybe Chelios—he's definitely a bad Mother Fucker.

Liam Neeson also comes to mind. I wouldn't want to hear his voice on my voicemail either. 😉

Bad movie. There was definitely potential here, but the writing is sloppy and the acting is even worse. To be blunt, Robert Pattinson just isn't built for a role like this. While Uma and Ricci are absolutely phenomenal, he spends the whole time just pulling that Edward Cullen face—you know the one—and nothing can fix it. At least the costumes looked nice 😍

I don't get why people judge a movie solely based on the hype. It’s like some people are just itching to trash a film just to prove they aren't part of the mindless bandwagon. And don't even get me started on the complaints about the happy ending. Given everything she went through? How is that even considered "happy"? What did she actually gain? I swear, everyone would be so much more satisfied if the protagonist had been brutally murdered instead. Then suddenly, it’s a "masterpiece," right? Because apparently, in the real world, happy endings just don't exist. 🙄

Look, can we please stop talking about sequels here? Not everyone has finished all three books yet!

As far as I'm concerned, when I mentioned the hype, I meant that I wouldn't have even picked up the book or watched the movie if it weren't so famous, simply because this isn't really my genre. People talk about these films and review them as absolute masterpieces and whatever else, but I'm just stating my opinion: they aren't that for me. This version I saw didn't exactly blow my mind. Look, it's a good movie, but I'm not exactly putting it in the all-time greats category.
Besides, what does it even mean to "judge a movie against the hype"? The hype exists because critics and audiences praised it so much that a viewer goes in expecting a flawless masterpiece, not to mention the massive marketing machine behind it. I'm not trying to sound smart; I'm just giving my impression, which is that nothing about it particularly wowed me.
Regarding the "happy" ending—it's just trash. There's no other word for it. I'm talking about the first movie since I haven't seen the others or read the books yet. Once I watch the full trilogy, maybe my opinion will change.
Obviously, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. Sure, the girl is still struggling, but you can't deny that every single situation resolved in the best possible way. Like I said before: that corporation that framed the journalist is collapsing, a sadistic killer gets trapped in a burning car, the girl becomes a high-society type hacking accounts in the Cayman Islands or wherever, and the writer starts writing again despite telling his boss at the beginning that he was totally blocked... The only thing missing is for a cat to show up at the writer's door, jump into his arms, and they both ride off into the sunset. 🙄

I watched it yesterday. Someone told me the original version was better than the one currently in theaters, so I figured I’d check that out first. It’s a decent crime thriller—nothing more, nothing less—but I don't really get the hype. The plot is interesting enough and the acting is fine, but it’s all so predictable: happy endings where the bad guy dies, the dead girl isn't actually dead, he gets out of prison, she steals the money, the evil corporation goes bust... blah blah blah. It’s all been done before. Overall, it's worth a watch, but there's nothing special about it that makes me want to dive into the sequels or pick up the book. I might give the American version a shot eventually, if only for Craig and that little Rooney everyone keeps raving about.
I mean, look, it's an okay movie, but it definitely didn't leave me with that "wow" factor I was expecting, especially considering how much buzz there is right now.
Damn movie. The action was spot on—not too much, not too little. Tammy is still killing it, even if you can start seeing those 50-something years creeping in. The humor landed well, and Simon Pegg absolutely crushes it. The female lead is hot, and the new agent is pretty good too. The villain felt a bit weak, but honestly, who cares? That mention of America was just annoying 🙏 🙏 the final scene where his old tech guy, that Black dude, shows up 🙂

Damn movie. 👍
Stumbled onto this thread just to check out the comments, and wow, I didn't realize everyone was so hyped about this 🙂🙂
What’s the big deal? And I don't mean the Oscar nominations—I mean the actual formula for a decent action flick. You know: explosions, gunfights, mayhem, a hot lead, plenty of cheesy one-liners, and a killer soundtrack...
Alright, fine, maybe I'll catch it at the theater. I mean, Tom Cruise is a total hunk, and I honestly love revisiting his older stuff. The first one is an absolute classic. The second one lacks a bit of that specific vibe, but it's still a solid ride, and the third one holds its own too... we'll see 😁

I was watching Wrestler the other day and he is just phenomenal. I don't know if there's something wrong with me, but that guy is just incredibly badass. Look, I’m probably too young to really get everything he went through or all the absolute nonsense he had to deal with back in the day, but I can't help it—even now, looking at him all weathered and worn down, he's just pure 🙂. And don't even get me started on what a phenomenal actor he is. 🤷🤷

swiftridge40 said:Maybe we should just download it. I’ll try to guess where they buried the files.

Honestly, I'm drawing a total blank here. No clue what to say.
Maybe Gandalf is heading toward Mordor? I see a gap there, which is probably where he managed to track them down.
Join us, Undead army! It’s a massive hole, and they're jumping right out at you from a pirate ship.

They stuffed in a lot of short scenes that might not even be essential to the plot, but they definitely paint a more complete picture than the theatrical cuts. For me, the Two Towers and The Return of the King really stand out; there are plenty of Eowyn-Aragorn moments, and then the Faramir-Eowyn bits at the end that you just don't see in the cinema versions. In the theater cut, suddenly at the coronation—bam—she’s healed and holding hands with Faramir. Personally, I think the extended version handles that transition so much better. It's probably a minor detail, but being a woman, these little love triangles and messy dynamics always catch my eye.🤣🤣

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I saw it at Best Buy too. If they don't have it on the shelf right now, just ask them to order it in 😉 my brain is fried, and honestly, I've watched those movie versions so many times that they feel way too short to me now.😍

Don't let her watch that. Unless, of course, you're looking to get chopped up and put to sleep immediately. Poor lady. I took my own mom to see this garbage at the theater once, and she spent the next two days cursing my name.😢

I rarely post on this forum, but I felt an actual physical need to vent because this thing was even worse than the movie. It was so tedious, long-winded, and hollow that the only thing I could compare it to is Sex in the United Arab Emirates 2. I usually like Julia Roberts, but her character was written so poorly she actually turned me off, and since Javier Bardem is the only reason to even watch the film, it’s a tragedy he barely shows up until the last twenty minutes.👎 The whole thing tries way too hard to pass off some pseudo-intellectual nonsense about the meaning of life as deep philosophy, but it's just pure gibberish.🙄🙄 Honestly, if I had intended to read the book after watching this disaster, not even God Himself could have forced me.☕
God, I hate this rain. Honestly. The atmosphere at the horse racing track was actually pretty decent, but come on—it’s June. I’m trying to die from a heatwave, not from slipping through literal mud. 😢😢

In Crimea, it's definitely Velebit$4.25. I rest my case😍. Yeah, it's a total hole, but whatever—are you going there to pick out wallpaper or just hang out with friends?😉 Everyone there is just so "lovely," clearly.🙂
And if you're looking at Waffle House, the disco trash is the best part😍. I assume it'll be fine even if some rock guy shows up🙂.
bluehound15 said:When I actually love a band, I get into this terrifying kind of mania😁

That’s why shows by Beach Boys or Gibo were always my absolute favorites to hit up. I think I saw about 20 of their sets; the crowd was pure insanity, 100% energy, everyone knew every single lyric. It was wild.👍

Both Gibo and Belan. At those kinds of shows, I tend to just zone out a bit, grab a few beers, and scream along until I lose my voice.😍
Everything else depends on who's playing. You can't stand still if it's some ska band, just like you can't jump around at a Bob Dylan show (and he definitely isn't singing Citron😉).

By the way, the dialogue dubbing was terrible. I have no idea who they hired for that... K

I'm with you on the translation—I literally had to come here just to vent about how bad it was.
As for everything else, if you ask me, comparing this to Love Actually is borderline sacrilege. Valentine's Day has its cute moments and decent stories—like the kid's subplot, or Jamie Foxx and Jessica Biel, for instance—but in terms of execution, 👎 this movie is miles away from any British rom-com. Americans just don't seem to know how to film anything without making it sickeningly sweet and over-the-top. In my opinion ☕

The thing is, whenever I say that around guys, I get "the look." Like, seriously, aren't there any dudes out there who aren't total uncles who also love this movie?? 😢

Don't even sweat it.
Almost 99 percent of the people I know who've seen Love Actually gave it a thumbs up, regardless of gender. For instance, back in high school, we watched it during an English class and the entire room loved it. Out of 30 kids in that class, only 9 were girls. So yeah.🤣☕
