Is anyone planning on making the trek from around here up to see the show in Chicago?
GPU running weirdly hot in IT Support ·
Man, back in the day, things used to hit 50 😁
GPU running weirdly hot in IT Support ·
Look, honestly, everything is totally fine and those temperatures are completely normal, so there's really zero reason to be stressing out about it.
If it's actually messing with your workflow or giving you grief, then just go ahead and reach out for some help.
Virus or just a glitch? in IT Support ·
Just wipe the smudges off the screen and you should be good to go. Though, honestly, there's a chance it might actually be a hardware issue.
Video playback issues on Windows 8.1 Pro in IT Support ·
steeltinker99 said:Hey everyone. So, I’m running into this annoying little hiccup with video playback—I use VLC Media Player to watch movies, usually—but the video keeps stuttering on me. Looking at my specs, the chip is an ATI RV370... kind of a DAC situation from ATI Technologies Inc.... MODEL is just the Microsoft Basic Display adapter.. BIOS is V380.. and I've only got 256MB RAM. The weird thing is, this issue only happens on my desktop, while on my other laptop, the exact same video player runs perfectly fine. Does anyone have a fix for this headache? Thanks in advance!! Cheers

Man, 256MB RAM is cutting it pretty thin if you're trying to play back video
how much memory does that other laptop actually have?

darksurfer4 said:Man, I honestly can't be bothered to go digging through my junk drawer right now, and there’s some tiny little text under there that says ES51 or whatever, but it's freaking microscopic. YouTube runs just fine, though the laptop gets pretty warm when I'm on it—is that actually a bad sign?🤔 The fan isn't spinning at all after I boot up this Windows 8.1 setup, which was already installed from the factory...

Look, if you don't have the energy for it, then I definitely don't have the motivation either. Good luck with everything.

though I guess we should actually double-check everything because I downloaded this one series that used to play perfectly fine, but when I tried watching it yesterday, the audio and video were totally out of sync...

"HP" is a massive category, man! You gotta give me the actual model number! It's usually listed right under the name.
That desync thing probably has nothing to do with your laptop, you might have just grabbed a crappy file. Go jump on YouTube and see if the video and sound match up there.
PS. Is it getting hot while you're using it? And does the fan start sounding like a jet engine after you've been on it for a while?
pss. what version of Windows are you running?

Could you give me the full rundown on which laptop model we're actually talking about here, and also, let me know if the thing even runs okay once you're finished with it?
Blue screen of death on my laptop in IT Support ·
Have you ever thought about flashing a newer BIOS? I noticed the one you're running is stuck way back in 2009 😁
but if you already did that, just ignore me...
I don't know, man, I've still got this nagging feeling that something inside the rig is making a weird little noise or something
New PC is making a buzzing noise in IT Support ·
Honestly, I’m thinking they might’ve shoved some defective hardware on you... because whenever it hits standby mode, it just shuts itself off and goes dead silent. But then, when you actually try to use the drive, it starts making this weird, stuttering noise... just my two cents, though, and who am I to say anything, right? 🙂
Firefox causing computer shutdowns in IT Support ·
Carl Nguyen5 said:Quick update—upgrading hasn't helped at all... I've tried everything.

I'm running an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4, with 3.25GB of RAM, 32-bit Windows 7, and a 1GB graphics card—plus a few different drives. Personally, I think my bookmarks might be the culprit; I have about a million of them, which likely bogs down Firefox and causes the crashes. I also recently installed BlueStacks to run Android on my PC, and that's slowed things down even further—everything feels sluggish now. Every time I click something, there's a massive delay before Windows Explorer, Chrome, or Firefox will actually open—and Firefox is definitely the worst, especially with this constant crashing issue.

What kind of power supply are you running? You mentioned having a few drives? Like, how many are we talking here? It’s possible your PSU just can't handle the load, making the whole system unstable and causing those crashes... maybe try unplugging a few 🤣 hard drives, leave just the essential one where the OS is sitting, and see if things settle down
Watch out for these SSDs in Hardware ·
So, I stumbled upon this super interesting read about how we all need to watch our backs when the summer heatwaves start hitting hard, specifically regarding those SSDs just sitting there unpowered, because apparently, they can actually lose data if things get too hot.

How to create 3 USB partitions? in IT Support ·
So, I finally wrestled with WinSetupFromUSB and man, it works like a charm... you basically just build your own little custom menu and pick whatever you feel like booting up 🙂
The site actually lays out the instructions pretty clearly, basically you start by throwing Windows 7 and Linux on there first with the format option checked
then down the road, you can just toss in whatever else you want as long as you make sure to uncheck that format box...
It really just comes down to how much breathing room you've got left on the stick if you want to cram in even more OS installers later on.

Big thanks to wiredcyclist82
Need help with YouTube streaming in IT Support ·
lonebadger79 said:I’ve got a few things I'm wondering about, specifically if it's actually doable to stream directly from a phone—an Android device—straight to YouTube.
Right now, I'm using this app on my old Galaxy S4 for streaming and honestly, it works fine; I can go live, then later move it over to YouTube, grab a link, and toss it on Facebook or Twitter so people can tune in. It's been alright so far, I guess. But what I really want to know is how to just jump straight onto YouTube for the live stream immediately...

Basically, I'm looking for a way to automate my YouTube streaming right from an Android phone...

wiredcyclist82 said:EDIT: So, Yumi doesn't really get how dual Windows installs work. I ended up just making a multiboot drive using WinSetupFromUSB instead. I threw Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Mint, and Ubuntu on there, and man, they all actually booted up fine. For the Windows 7 and 8.1 ones, I got as far as the part where it asks you to pick an installation partition. I don't have a spare rig lying around right now to test if the whole install process actually finishes smoothly, but honestly, this feels like my best bet for now.
LP

If Yumi isn't catching on, then this looks like a total no-brainer—you just toss more stuff on there, click build, and boom, you're done. Easy peasy! I'll definitely give it a shot myself soon.🙏

wiredcyclist82 said:You should honestly just give Yumi a shot if you're looking to set up a multiboot drive; it’s worth checking out. So, I was just scrolling through this page about using Yumi to make a bootable USB drive, and honestly, if you haven't messed around with this stuff yet, you're basically living in the dark ages. It’s one of those tools that just makes life easier when you're trying to get different operating systems running from a thumb drive without losing your mind. You know how it goes—you spend three hours fighting with BIOS settings only to realize you set it up wrong, and then you're just sitting there staring at a black screen wondering where it all went sideways. Anyway, the link is right here for anyone who actually wants to be productive instead of just staring at their monitor: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/

Alright, I'll get on that once I finally clock out of work. Thanks. 😉
How to create 3 USB partitions? in IT Support ·
So, I've got this 16GB USB drive and I was thinking it might be cool to split it up into three separate partitions so I can have different installers sitting on each one.

Like, one part for Windows 7

another one for Windows 8.1

and then a third one for Linux Mint

The dream is that when I boot from the drive, it just asks me which OS I want to install so I don't have to waste my life constantly reflashing a single USB drive every time I want to try out a different operating system...

I mean, if that's even actually doable? Something tells me it’s probably a pipe dream because Windows usually only wants to see one primary partition, but hey, if anyone here actually knows how to pull this off, I'd really appreciate the help.

Just swap out the cable and give it another shot, though honestly, finding a working one like that these days is probably like hunting for a vintage relic in a museum somewhere.

Grace Hill17 said:Hey guys,

can someone please explain why this keeps popping up on my screen and how I can make it stop? Like, my internet is working totally fine, so I don't get why it's even bothering me. Every time I try to click "switch to," it just kicks me straight back to the Start menu. Any ideas?

Basically, some software on your machine is trying to jump onto the web before your connection is actually ready right after you boot up the PC.
Like, usually it's stuff like:

An antivirus program.
iPod or iTunes.
Java Runtime Environment.
Or just any other random app trying to run an update...

I've heard that if you have Samsung PC Studio installed, it can cause this exact headache too.

Honestly, just try going through your apps and disabling all those automatic updates for a bit and see if that clears things up...
Best cleaning software? in IT Support ·
Honestly, just stick with a combo of CCleaner, Malwarebytes, and Avast free. That’s pretty much all you need. Everything else is just bloatware designed to slow your system down and invent fake problems just so they can trick you into buying their overpriced subscriptions. If I were you, I'd just back up my files, wipe everything, and do a fresh install of Windows. Then, just stick to what I told you from the jump. You don't need any of those "PC doctor" optimizer scams or whatever other garbage they're peddling these days.
Regarding Chrome, seriously, just ditch it and grab Firefox instead. Chrome is basically just a massive data-mining machine built to track your every move so they can spam you with ads and—who knows what else...
Like my buddy mentioned above, you absolutely have to throw an AdBlock extension onto your browser too.
