Laptop battery issues in IT Support ·
Kevin Green25 said:But look, the charger itself still works fine, it’s just that little LED light died on me today. Basically, it flashes for maybe a second or two, and then once I boot up my laptop, the light just goes dark, even though the computer keeps running perfectly fine.

Man, if it isn't actually charging the laptop, then it's broken, plain and simple. That LED is just there to tell you what's happening... if the light is out, it doesn't matter how much you argue with it, it's dead. A tiny indicator light doesn't just spontaneously combust like a lightbulb unless you got hit by a bolt of lightning or something.😒

Maybe a lightning strike fried the charger because I just left it plugged into the wall?
It’s basically just there so you can boot the rig using your keyboard while the PC is powered down, I don't see why that's even bothering you... honestly, I think it's actually pretty cool 😁

but hey, if it's driving you nuts, you can just kill the setting in the BIOS... look for a "wake up keyboard" option or something similar, though it really depends on which motherboard you're running
Hit Start > Run > type in diskmgmt.msc
Once that Disk Management window pops up, just find that specific hard drive in the list, right-click it, and go ahead and select Change Drive Letter and Paths...

Just swap the current letter (hit change) to something else that isn't already being used by another drive, and then you should finally be able to see all your files sitting there where they belong.

So, how old is this rig actually?

Give me a little more to work with here—have you swapped out any parts since you first built it?
My PC is acting weird in IT Support ·
The motherboard's probably dead, man. You should go check if the capacitors are even holding a charge

So, when the screen goes totally black, does the little indicator light on the monitor turn orange? Or is it supposed to stay green?

Look, just try this—make sure you DISABLE everything in Google Chrome first, then try THIS

Copying files to an external hard drive in IT Support ·
It’s totally possible some other junk was hogging the hard drive at that exact second, you know? Like maybe an antivirus scan kicked off out of nowhere... or some torrent was running in the background... 🤷

Betty Collins19 said:I can't make heads or tails of what you just posted there. It looks like a random string of gibberish or maybe some weird error code that popped up on your screen while you were messing around with your PC, but honestly, without any context, I’m just staring at a bunch of characters that don't mean anything to me. If you're having some kind of technical meltdown or if your computer is throwing a fit, you're gonna need to actually tell me what happened first, because right now, I'm just sitting here guessing, and I'm not exactly a mind reader, though I'd like to think I'm pretty sharp most of the time. Just give me the full story so we can figure this out.

Check out this link if you want to see what they're cooking up over at the SUPPORT_PORTAL—honestly, sometimes I feel like I spend more time scrolling through these tech innovation pages than actually doing anything productive, but hey, it keeps the brain from turning into mush while I'm waiting for my computer to finish those endless updates that always seem to happen right when I actually need to get stuff done.

Just type that serial number in there and it’ll throw an error at you, don't freak out—just switch the language settings over to American, run it again, and it should behave itself. Once that's done, you can grab the download for Windows 7 x64. Oh, and before you go doing any of that, make sure you wipe out those old drivers first and totally scrub the wireless devices out of your Device Manager so things don't get messy.

I'm trying to figure out how to get this thing installed, but honestly, everything feels like such a massive headache lately. I swear, you click one button and suddenly you're staring at ten different error messages that make zero sense, just drifting through some digital wasteland while your computer sits there doing absolutely nothing. It’s like, come on, I just want to run the setup and move on with my life, you know? But no, instead I'm stuck here staring at a progress bar that hasn't moved since the Bush administration. Just my luck, really. Anyway, if anyone has a clue how to actually get this running without losing my mind, let me know. So, I was messing around on my old rig today—you know, that dusty beast sitting under my desk that’s basically held together by prayer and sheer willpower—and I decided to run Speccy just to see if it was actually dying or if it was just being dramatic like I am. It’s funny how much we rely on those little diagnostic tools when everything feels like it's falling apart, right? Honestly, sometimes I feel like my own internal hardware is throwing error codes half the time. Anyway, I was digging through the specs, looking at temperatures and seeing if my cooling setup was actually doing anything besides making a loud whirring noise that sounds like a jet engine taking off in my bedroom. It’s one of those things where you think everything is fine until you look under the hood and realize you're running on borrowed time. Just a little bit of digital housekeeping to keep the madness at bay. You gotta check exactly which one it is, because that's how it'll pick up the manufacturer...

Honestly, I’d much rather just listen to Anton if you ask me. 🙂

hey, just go ahead and write down the serial number from the bottom of the laptop

You could just toss that model name into Google and look for a driver download link at the end of the results.
Or, you know, just head straight over to the Microsoft website and hunt it down there.
Honestly, if you're feeling stuck, just give customer service a ring at 1-800-555-0199 and they'll probably walk you through it.
Monitor is unresponsive in IT Support ·
Look, you should probably just try unplugging the whole thing from the wall first—pull the power cable out of the tower (Lawrence Barnes64)—and then just mash the power button a few times without any juice running through it. You gotta drain all that leftover energy sitting in the capacitors; I even went as far as touching those three pins on the back of the motherboard just to make sure everything was totally bled dry... once you've done that, plug it back in and give it another shot. Honestly, that trick saved my skin a couple of times after a massive lightning strike fried my setup back in the day

Joshua Cook62 said:So I had this totally blind Norton Security sitting on my rig that couldn't see a thing, and even though CrowdStrike flagged 57 different items for quarantine, the whole mess just wouldn't go away. It’s weird because when I pull up a site in Google Chrome, everything works just fine. So, I'm thinking I'll just wipe Mozilla Firefox and reinstall it from scratch, hopefully that finally fixes this headache.

you could also try using ccleaner to clean up the registry...

thanks man, downloading it now... I've got this thing sitting in a sandbox right now, so can I just wipe it out without everything going south on me?

Oh, and I should probably mention that whenever I try to reset the system, it just sits there spinning forever on the "restarting" screen before it actually does anything... those little loading dots just kind of stutter around aimlessly for ages...
