How to tone down the sarcasm without losing my personality? in Psychology & Therapy ·
That all makes sense, Carl Rivera43. But I’m telling you, being on good terms with absolutely everyone is an impossibility. On my floor, I stick to the basics—a quick hello, a morning greeting, maybe a brief comment, and then we all go our separate ways. About 80% of the people here are in their early thirties, mostly young professionals. But what can you do? You have your inner circle, and that’s that. I’ve grabbed drinks with a few coworkers after work once or twice. At the end of the day, work is work, and personal life is personal.

I am telling you, it isn't possible for everyone to get along with everyone else. You have your inner circle, and that is where your loyalty lies. Some people might be going through their own struggles, making them ill-suited for small talk; others are simply wired that way. Why let it bother you?

It is the same principle with friends. You have a select few, and the rest are just acquaintances. Imagine if you actually considered every single person a friend. That sounds exhausting. Just be decent to the people who have accepted you, and be polite to the rest. Have a good day.

Maystore, you're being overly sensitive. Honestly, forget about her. Focus on your own numbers and stop letting this get to you. You aren't obligated to be everyone's best friend at the office.

If 80% of them are great, what exactly are you getting from the other 20%? In my office, there are five of us; on this entire floor, there are about 40 people, and I barely speak to anyone outside my immediate desk space. A quick hello, a goodbye, and that’s it.
I'm feeling anxious about everything in Psychology & Therapy ·
The only thing that actually changes if you fail is your headspace, and even that is nothing more than a temporary setback. Are you really too old for this? Is it possible to become proficient in any language after a year of study? A weekend trip to New York City? Come on, those are just two days out of an entire lifetime. My high school teacher had already finished her degree by the time she was lecturing us at 36. Then there's my cousin; she dropped out of business school at 20 because our parents were forcing the issue, insisting it was the only way to ensure a comfortable life. Well, she went back in her 30s, and she’s already a year into it.

It is never too late for anything. Everything you truly desire is waiting for you just on the other side of fear.
Try looking at it this way: when you wake up and realize that any given day could realistically be your last, would you "waste" it obsessing over everything you wrote, or would you spend it working toward those dreams? Even if things don't pan out perfectly, at least you'll know you spent your life pursuing something you actually cared about in the moment.
Am I weird just because I'm not like everyone else? in Psychology & Therapy ·
Well, I suppose one could argue you’re still in that phase where everything feels a bit hazy. You're at an age where exploration is the whole point; you aren't out partying every night, which is actually quite refreshing. Honestly, why would anyone choose to waste money on anything else? There is nothing quite like traveling, at least in my estimation. 😎

Fine, a hundred people, a hundred different eccentricities. I wouldn't exactly call that "normal" behavior, but then again, not everyone has the means to indulge. You claim other people's opinions don't affect you, yet here you are seeking answers—or rather, posing rhetorical questions. In the end, you still asked for our collective opinion on the matter.

I wonder if you truly care as much as you think you do. Perhaps you should focus more on enjoying life, regardless of what others deem acceptable. It isn't too late to completely overhaul your perspective. Some people dedicate themselves entirely to their careers, which is perfectly valid. As for that example about perfectionism and training for Christmas... was the goal such a flawless physique that you had to hit the gym during the holidays? I'm not sure. A more relevant example would have been helpful. But, moving on.

If you have a clear sense of direction and know what you want from life, then the opinions of everyone in this forum—or even people in your real life—are utterly irrelevant. Your mindset will undoubtedly shift as you get older. If you are genuinely happy as you are, then live by that and enjoy everything you can. 😎

Someone definitely will. 😂😂

Existential dread: Does any of this actually matter? in Psychology & Therapy ·
I have decided to make a move toward change. I’ve started losing too much lately, and I am quite dissatisfied with the direction
these losses are taking. Today was particularly foolish; I haven't eaten anything all day besides a few crackers and
just drank. There is no appetite, yet I feel nauseous from hunger. I have concluded that I focus far too much
on questions to which, generally speaking, absolutely no one—including myself—can provide an answer.
And perhaps the answers to certain questions only arrive after death, assuming death is even a destination.

There are certain things that motivate me slightly, but today was simply one of those animalistic days,
which, ironically, spurred me toward something I don't actually desire.
Because of that, I even studied today; I sent out a few resumes and will soon be changing my email signature. 🙂
There is a vast amount of things I need to fix—things I messed up because I didn't want to deal with them.

Thank God that one of my many diagnoses isn't bipolar; I hope it never becomes so.
It isn't interesting; in fact, it is quite boring. However, certain things have shifted in my mind, my life, and my job, leading
me to take a step that I will begin implementing tomorrow (I did something small today just to test my motivation).
I plan to see a doctor in two weeks once I settle everything at the office. And there will definitely be significantly less
whining that leads nowhere, since whining won't lead me anywhere beyond this current state anyway.

I have an extensive list of repairs and goals to achieve across almost every segment of my life.
I will attempt to remain persistent in achieving them. Ultimately, I realize that with whatever support I might eventually receive,
no one else can or will help me accomplish this. I haven't written anything in a while because I read the recent comments and wasn't
sure exactly what to say to make it sound like my own voice; I don't even know if what I am writing is any good.

But certain things in my mind have shaken me—even devastated me, I would say. Perhaps the beginning of understanding
comes through the silence that resides within us all; a silence as vast as the universe, and when we experience that silence, we remember who we are.
Voices in the back of the head.

The pain I feel daily, and even now as I write this—this sensation of heaviness in my stomach,
a whirlwind of aches as if something inside me is wrong; it is unpleasant and creates a sense of discomfort and anxiety.
That pressure and pain, every time I eat or abstain from eating, is exhausting.
I no longer want this; I want to feel well and I want to start working toward that goal.

Thank you to everyone who reads and comments on my threads, no matter how often it seems they are all essentially the same.
But these things I am going through—these pains—are not something I would wish upon anyone.
They hinder me in so many ways, and I am simply losing, losing, and losing everything that matters to me.
I am done with this losing, these pains, and these sensations. I need change; perhaps change needs me.
I don't know, but there are fears I must confront.
At least, that is what the "card" says, which I pulled immediately following an overdose; it's almost "funny" to me that out of a backpack full of messages, I pulled that specific one.
As for psychological wellness, I will certainly look into that.
The lounge bar has been locked down; I'm officially out of here.

Bye bye, mods...
They really managed to get under my skin, didn't they? You know as well as I do that letting them win is always a terrible idea. 😝

Why don't you just leave the chat and never comment again? Thanks.

Flower, thanks, but explaining things to someone with such a narrow mind isn't worth the effort. Am I a fool for letting people provoke me? Perhaps. And I've been doing exactly that, repeatedly, since this chat first opened.
Let me just set this aside for a moment. I have zero interest in picking fights with anyone. I’m not interested in pretending to be someone I’m not; I deal with my own internal struggles. Besides, I finally have someone in my life who makes things much easier. Someone I can actually laugh with and feel happy around for the first time in a long while.

I get what you're trying to say, really, but life happens.
Sometimes I find myself stuck with thoughts in my head that I can't even begin to trace—no idea where they start or where they end. It's exhausting. All I want is to be happy and actually enjoy living. But honestly? Even the brightest sunny day eventually gives way to the dark, and so do the nights. That's just how it goes.
In what possible universe was I being arrogant there, dustypilot11? Please.

@Sophia Roberts21/">@@Sophia Roberts21 Oh, I see. So you just pick and choose who deserves your empathy? Because people who aren't quite as sick or haven't suffered a massive loss—whatever that means to you—don't qualify for your "compassion"? Honestly, you aren't empathetic; it’s starting to look more like blatant hypocrisy.

Fine. You managed to read two of my posts. Is that supposed to be some grand achievement? And apparently, you think my take on life is some endless, dreary monologue about misery? Terrific. And yet, you still claim to be so incredibly empathetic. I knew this forum had all sorts of characters, but this entire off-topic meltdown is truly the peak of everything I've seen here.

And let's get one thing straight, Sarah: a doctor helps a patient regardless of their condition. Sure, they might prioritize someone in critical condition over someone with a minor scratch, but the point remains—they provide care regardless of the diagnosis. You don't seem to grasp that. You might think you're an empathetic person, but if you're selective about it, you aren't. You just think you are.

P.S. Empathy isn't a choice; it's a feeling you either have or you don't. You don't get to opt-in. But hey, what do I know? I'm just sitting here wallowing in self-pity. 😊
To get back to what actually matters, I’m going to completely ignore you, dustypilot11.

@analogowl4/">@@analogowl4 thanks.

@lepricorn They just don't grasp that the most vicious kind of pain is psychological. Often, victims of bullying would actually prefer physical confrontation over mental abuse. The mind heals, sure, but the mental images? Those stick around. They aren't easy—or fast—to erase.

I've tried everything: cycling, running, hitting the gym. It’s all fine, really, but when I'm left alone with my own thoughts, it becomes too much. I don't want to run away from myself, yet I have no desire to feel this empty. I gave meditation a shot; it wasn't for me, even though I respect the concept—it did help ease the knot in my throat for a bit—but I found a variation of yoga much more effective. As for the power of autosuggestion... hmm, let me tell you something. The difference between life and death lies in a person's "language." 😊
dustypilot11 said:Morgan Campbell4, I wear pajamas, and if you keep talking like that, you aren't going to have a good time.

If I "keep talking like that"? Are you actually attempting to threaten me based on what I wear to bed? I simply asked who wears them because, frankly, it seems like something for children. It was never my intention to insult anyone, nor am I claiming my opinion is the absolute truth. And what, exactly, are you implying by suggesting you can do something to me? Do us both a favor and just exit this chat. Thanks.
Somewhere in the middle of your description, that empathy you claim to possess seems to have gone missing.

So, look, Sophia Roberts21, what is the point of a chat called the Lounge Bar (chat & support)? It isn't designed for me to impress you or anyone else by being dramatic about my "attempted suicide" today. What modern society fails to grasp—and what is glaringly obvious from your comment—is that it is perfectly fine if someone doesn't feel okay.

What most people don't understand is that anyone who feels bad in any capacity doesn't actually want to feel that way.
And just because someone wants to help, doesn't mean they are capable of doing so in this exact moment.
Why? Because every effect has a cause.
Or, to put it in blunt, unrefined terms, every "why" has its reason.

That is generally why I find our chat's attempt at acting like a psychoanalyst—or rather, its imitation of one—so distasteful. Empathy should facilitate a deeper state of mind, an emotional clarity, and true understanding. Ultimately, it is simply about compassion.

Perhaps you should reread sections of your own post. You might think you are being empathetic, but to me, that empathy was lost somewhere along the way in your writing.

@Rachel Palmer56/">@@Rachel Palmer56, depression is a state of mind, much like happiness. This means it is absolutely fine for you to be happy, but it is not fine to be depressed. And that is slightly more complex than your self-realization that I might understand something less than you or anyone else who is "happy."

There are parts of the brain that dictate mood, such that you are hit daily by things that will logically trigger feelings of either joy or sadness later on.

The purpose of this chat was support and solidarity. Empathy meant understanding you and helping where possible. If we had shared similar bouts of madness, I could have used my own experience to tell you how I managed to pull myself through.

Yet, among the "first" comments here, there was an immediate urge to spit on what this chat is supposed to represent. My dear friends, that has nothing to do with empathy. Period.
The whole point of this thread was to move people away from our usual lounge bar—which basically functions as a collective therapy couch. So, just a heads-up: this is likely going to be a depression chat. Consider yourselves warned.

I have no intention of faking some "positive mindset" routine. To me, that feels dishonest—an attempt to stifle the very emotions that are fundamentally tied to my depression, dissatisfaction, and other things I won't bother listing.

Simply deciding to think positively, or pretending to see sunshine where there is none, isn't going to change a thing. My problems aren't going to vanish just because I decided today to slap a smile on my own caricature. So, whatever. If you’re looking for a space filled with mindless, upbeat chatter 100% of the time, I’ll disappoint you right out of the gate. You've come to the wrong place. That's my stance.
If I had the power to make that happen, believe me, I would... 😞
