Since this payment is for an author's royalty, the creator should be eligible for a tax refund... I was wondering if there is a specific code I should enter under the contract type 😕 to indicate it's specifically for royalties... Also, could I perhaps use the author's Social Security number in the approval number field, because when I'm using net banking through JPMorgan Chase, the system doesn't actually ask for the recipient's name —there isn't even a dedicated space to input their full name —it just asks for the account number ...
Regarding the fee, I don't think there's a specific category to label it as an "author's fee." Whether you're paying via a wire transfer or a check, it’s going to be reported for taxes anyway since it's clearly coming from a business account. I can double-check the specific payment code for you if it's not too late, maybe I'll let you know later this afternoon. The charge reference is actually just your own business account number from which you're sending the money. You can either enter it or just leave it blank since the transfer is coming from your account and the online banking system pulls it automatically. You definitely can't put his Social Security number in the approval number field—he's not paying himself, right? You could put an invoice number if you have one, or just leave it empty using code 99. Using a Social Security number in the approval field is for code 12, but that's only used when an individual is paying for something like a court fee, tuition, or whatever.
It shouldn't even ask for the recipient's name because you're supposed to already know which account you're paying into, and the automated system handles the rest!
Jerry Sullivan4 said:I’d love to set up something similar for myself. Basically, I don't want the payment coming under my own name, but rather showing a business name like JPMorgan Chase instead.
Is this kind of payment method an option if I only have a standard checking account at Bank of America?
What do these numbers at the bottom actually mean? I'm looking to swap them out for my own info... model -02? Recipient account number 2360000-3219426870? Authorization reference number 3219426870?
Alright, let's take this step by step... 😳 1) You can set it up so when someone transfers from a different bank, they put their own name under "Payer," and then just put Bank of America under "Recipient." 2) Under the "Recipient Account Number" column, you've got to use 2402006 as the routing number for Bank of America, and then after the dash, you put your actual checking account number (320*******)—if you do that, the "Approval Reference" column can just stay empty using model 99. 3) Or, you could put 2402006-1031262160 in that same column, but then you'd have to put your checking number in the "Approval Reference" field with option 02 under the "Model" column.
Honestly, I wouldn't bother stressing over the "Model" options. There's like a million of them, and it’s not your job to memorize them—that's what the tellers are there for.
If I totally misinterpreted what you're asking, just hit me back, but I don't really get who would be paying who here. Still, the logic is the same.
darkmaker94 said:Since he isn't really using it, he might be better off opening an account at JPMorgan Chase. They don't charge monthly maintenance fees, and he'll get a Visa card for online shopping—he'd just have to cover a one-time fee for the card and PIN $6.75.
Plus, you can use the JPMorgan Chase Maestro card for online purchases now too... 😁
George Barrett35 said:Wait, what? You're talking about foreign currency remittance fees, which have absolutely nothing to do with online banking...
Look, I just listed those fees based on whether he's doing a standard wire transfer or if he uses PayPal instead. It's a different thing entirely. I was basically just eyeballing it... 😁
frch Why isn't it allowed on Reddit to ask which song people feel more connected to—"America the Beautiful" or "From Sea to Shining Sea"?
moderator Johnny B. Goode responds
Johnny B. Goode Because those two songs were sung under completely different regimes—they represent two totally different countries—and frankly, we don't need topics like that cluttering up the Politics subforum here on Reddit.
So, I’m left wondering—and I mean this sincerely: 1) Why does a moderator refer to the democratically elected government of the United States as a "regime"? 2) Can a moderator like that actually stay impartial while running the Politics subforum?
Let’s get one thing straight—like, 90% of the people on this site are actually decent, normal users. If they were the only ones online, moderators wouldn't even need to exist, let alone be writing stuff like this. The problem is that tiny little group making up the other 10%. Because of them, moderators end up hating their jobs, this whole site, and probably the entire world.
The Internet offers incredible anonymity. It’s way too easy to just sink into an armchair, grab a huge bag of popcorn, crack open a beer, light up a cigarette, and hit connect. You could basically take that old Microsoft slogan “where do you want to go today” and tack on “to cause trouble”. Well, the moderator is there to stop that. Individual freedom always ends where someone else's rights begin. But some people hide behind the screen to harass others or try to hijack digital spaces for themselves. So what happens? The moderator steps in. They warn, edit, delete, or ban. Most troublemakers take it personally or try to prove they're the boss.
source: netiquette—the rules for decent behavior in online communities
Look, if you actually bother to read the article quoted above, and if you happen to fall into any of those "troublemaker" categories, then your complaint doesn't have a leg to stand on. I mean, if this user is out here comparing the old America era with songs about being "beautiful" to modern American anthems—especially after trashing old singers in one thread and praising current ones in another—then they deserve exactly what they got. If the admins disagree, hey, feel free to give me a warning.
So, to sum it up: it sounds like the Politics section is just a roadside bathroom for you—somewhere to take care of business before moving on with your day. Well, someone has to clean up the mess.
P.S. If frch needs a lawyer, I’d suggest finding someone actually famous. ☕ Best,
Keith Lopez8 said:So, I need to pick something up online and I’m going to need a foreign currency account to make it happen. I don't actually have any use for one otherwise, so I'm wondering how long it takes to close one out once I'm done, and if there's some kind of fee attached to closing it. I was thinking about just opening it at Chase, if that matters.
Opening the account? Takes maybe 5 minutes. Getting a Visa Electron card for shopping on the NET might take a bit longer, like 10-15 days. Closing it also takes about 5 minutes, though I guess it might not even be worth the hassle to bother closing it. There's no fee to open it, but you'll deal with a $1.25 monthly maintenance fee. Plus, you're gonna need online banking and that security token Chase issues for it. Online transaction fees are 0.5%, with a minimum of $40.00 and a max of $123. I'd have to look more into the specific fees for the online banking and the token, because I couldn't find that part.
Maybe check it out, maybe I just missed it. Chase fees
Kimberly Nguyen said:Are you actually serious right now? ... Because things don't work that way in the States, which is why I'm even asking...
It should follow the order of the currencies being pulled: USD, then EUR, then CHF, followed by GBP and whatever else is sitting in the account. I don't know for sure, though—maybe it's just happening on my end.
Susan Ward4 said:I set up my account in dollars. So, if I’ve got pounds sitting in there too, and let's say I need to pay for something in pounds, does the bank just pull from the pound balance automatically, or am I gonna get hit with a conversion fee to turn my dollars into pounds?
Look, let's just get this straight: mramoterm is banned, so can we please stop the endless back-and-forth about who deserves a ban or a slap on the wrist? You guys already spammed the Politics section enough, don't bring that mess over here too.
Have you even stopped to ask yourself lately what the Politics section would look like if we started a brand new thread for every single anniversary or every time some new grave was found? I guess you just don't get the difference between "reviving old, dead threads that are out of date for that exact reason" and "adding new info to an existing thread if it actually serves a purpose". In the first case, you're gonna get a strike for breaking subforum rules, but in the second, you might actually build a decent discussion that could lead to, I don't know, a constructive conversation.
For you people on Politics, every tiny little hiccup from one of our politicians is a reason to start a new thread. Every single statement is just an excuse to mock someone or bicker on the forum, and don't even get me started on the clones, the pointless threads, and the trolls. That little bird flu outbreak you guys made such a big deal about? That's nothing compared to the absolute mess going on among you. The intolerance, the hate, the total lack of social skills, and those low-life urges to satisfy yourselves through hate speech, disgusting insults, and constant trolling—with topics that wouldn't even be fit for the Garbage section (if that even existed)—you really think that stuff is tolerated here...?
Just because the section is called On the Edge of Politics doesn't mean everyone is obligated to open at least three threads a day just to hit their daily quota of crap while staring at a picture of Bush in the newspaper. And no, it doesn't mean every stupid thread stays up just because you guys are used to posting nonsense from sunrise to late at night.
Your thread has been chewed up and spat out so many times that even the gum in a grandma's mouth from the 1920s would feel fresher. So, I really don't see why you're even demanding to know (as if you have a say!) who closed it, let alone why a moderator should bother answering you. What would even a name mean to you...? Some fictional character from someone's wild imagination that you'll spend the next month whining about until you feel like someone wronged you again...?
Can someone please close this before I write something I shouldn't, let alone am allowed to write?
I honestly have no clue who shut this thread down, but I really hope—just for once—that you guys learn how the Politics section on PDF is just absolutely drowning in endless debates about Ustaše, partisans, Chetniks, and every other group trying to tear down the USA. This specific topic is just getting to be a bit much, I guess.
Richard Lewis16 said:hmm, I actually had no idea about that It sounds pretty ridiculous to me... I mean, I’ve got some pounds sitting in my foreign currency account from my trip over there, so you're telling me I can't even withdraw 105 pounds? Honestly, it feels like a really poorly thought-out move by the board... I totally get why they wouldn't just hand over $600 or a few thousand Swedish krona right at the teller window—you obviously have to order specific amounts ahead of time—but I didn't realize they didn't carry any small denominations at all Maybe try swapping them out at a currency exchange booth down by the coast... you'll take a bit of a hit on the exchange rate, but hey, that's just how it goes sometimes😁 And just keep a few pennies as a souvenir... or maybe use them for something small the next time you find yourself traveling north😬
The smallest bill banks usually dispense is five bucks, so you could grab a $5 bill, but nothing smaller than that. As for the change I've got lying around (two $1 bills, one $1 bill, and three quarters), I'll go ask around somewhere and let you know.
Richard Lewis16 said:I remember back in the day, you could just toss your spare change into that little exchange booth at the Chase branch downtown I wonder if they still let you do that 🤷 Since you’ve spent your whole career working in the banking sector, I figured you’d be the one to tell me 😬 I think there might be a way to deposit pounds—not pence, mind you—directly into a foreign currency account, though I can't say for certain...
I actually went ahead and asked my crew over at the treasury, and their manager told me nobody even touches those coins anymore. If the banks won't buy them from you, then I guess you can't deposit them into a foreign account either. Whatever. I'll just keep them as souvenirs. 😉
Terry Howard said:You sure about that? From what I gather, you can only swap them at a local bank in the country where the currency is actually used—though our banks here could probably buy them from you and wire them over, provided you're okay with paying some hefty fee.
Yeah, my bad, I totally blanked on that. It’s basically like sending cash for collection, except the bank is obviously going to take a cut for the trouble. Speaking of which, who even bothers exchanging British coins around here?
goldenpilot15 said:So, here’s the situation: I’ve got some loose change sitting in my coin jar—maybe about 50 bucks or so—and I was wondering how I can actually turn that into paper bills? Or, if it's even possible, could I just deposit it directly into a foreign currency savings account?🤷 I'm working with JPMorgan Chase here. Thanks in advance for any help!👍
Look, the coins are legal tender. Just walk into the bank, be polite, say "good morning," and tell them you want to deposit your cash into your savings account. Should be zero issues... ☕
You can probably hit up any bank, honestly. They’ve still gotta keep those specific exchange rates on hand for expired currency and stuff. It’s not like we're talking huge money here, but I guess if you can swap it out, why wouldn't you? 😉
slymarlin83 said:I mean, it could totally be because they were depositing the funds directly into the business account... honestly, that’s probably what happened. Thanks!
That’s definitely it. There’s a fee for when an individual makes a transfer to a business checking account—it's 1% of the total, anywhere from a minimum of $2.00 to a maximum of $33.
