But I have to wonder—who exactly gets to sit in judgment and decide what counts as a quality contribution?

Look, if you can manage to act civil when talking to people at your job, then you should probably be able to handle it here too. That's really all there is to it.
Is it actually true? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Your question.

Kyle King4 said:And what, you guys get special treatment? A discount? Bulk pricing or something?😁

They finally got an answer.

nimblewalker58 said:If you weren't so completely obsessed with whether everything is "fair" or constantly airing your grievances, you'd easily fit right in with the forum's elite—the very group we’re trying to protect so they can exchange ideas without being interrupted by every random troll looking for attention.

Look, nobody gets special treatment here. Seriously. Even the mods can get hauled over the coals if they cross the line. None of us are out to make life difficult for anyone on Reddit, we're just making sure people actually follow the rules they agreed to when they signed up for this site. That’s it.

gentlesurfer21 said:So now—what?
Do you really think paying moderators will stop them from being biased...? Or will there just be more bans and suspensions and all that other stuff...?
If everything has been working reasonably well up to this point, I don't see why we’re suddenly making payment an option for participating in discussions. I just can't wrap my head around charging for "free space." It’s like someone trying to charge people for the air in a specific section of Times Square just because they stepped off the subway and walked through it. Don't you think people will just start avoiding that area...?

The whole thing isn't about anyone getting paid; it's about finally getting Reddit in some kind of order and dealing with the trolls, spammers, and clones. I mean, how much do you think people are actually going to shell out if they want to post using five different handles, having to pay some small fee for every single one just to keep their accounts alive?

Harold Taylor6 said:The moderators aren't getting paid for this :P
But what was hollowtrucker77 actually getting at (at least, that's how I read it)—people would probably be a lot more mindful about their tone and how they phrase things if there were some kind of subscription fee involved. Plus, we wouldn't have to deal with all those unnecessary clone accounts and whatnot...

Man, if only paying for stuff actually fixed our other problems, we'd all be a whole lot happier...

gentlesurfer21 said:Sure, but the goal isn't to kick people off the site, it's to draw them in, just like always, right...?
Damn (oops, my bad!) I have zero intention of paying someone to play judge and jury, nor am I interested in sucking up to anyone just to stay in their good graces.
I get that times are tough, but seeing you guys sink this low—charging for space on an online community that’s supposed to be about relaxing and hosting different personalities while following basic house rules... honestly, I never saw that coming...

Look, this isn't some public dive bar, okay?
Anyone can jump into discussions on Reddit as long as they follow the established rules. We don't need to go out and recruit anyone; whether someone decides to hang out here or not is entirely up to them.
You don't have to suck up to anybody. Just respect the rules, and you should never even have to deal with the moderators, or heaven forbid, the admins.

Enjoy your time on Reddit,

So, are we really going to sit here and question why the threads keep getting locked again...?
It’s not even about being arrogant, honestly. Sarah Wilson95I mean, it’s just that thing where people were basically asked nicely a long time ago to stop doing stuff like that, but some folks? They just keep right on doing it anyway.

Topic No. 6
Topic No. 7
Thread No. 8
Thread No. 9
Thread No. 10

Five topics that start out looking like trolling, stay purely trolling, and then—after everything is said and done—you realize... Nathan Bailey65Honestly, how would those topics even end...? I mean, seriously.

Look, the point is that you guys have been begging for a long time now to just stop with the rude posts, the constant snapping back at provocations, all those shady insinuations, and trying to slap labels on everyone else here at Mad House. It’s true—some stuff went unpunished before, mostly just because this was Mad House. But there's a line. Like Sarah Wilson95 said, there's a difference between just messing around and what this place has actually turned into.
Is it really that hard to just have a conversation? To actually swap ideas without immediately jumping to ad hominem attacks or slapping labels on everyone? I mean, seriously... people sink so low sometimes that it’s embarrassing. We’re hitting levels of disrespect that would make even the most shameless people on the planet blush.

If you guys seriously still think the only reason they changed the PDF filename was to mess with you personally, I honestly don't know how else we can get through to you...

Look, I’m calling it here. Sarah Wilson95, nobody is stopping you from asking questions—you’ve always been free to do that—but since none of the moderators over on the Politics sub ever actually listen to anything said, there's really no point in me keeping this up. I'm done replying to this thread.

Amanda Booth42 said:What do you mean it isn't???
Look, you're straight up lying here.
I mean, you personally have been shutting down basically every topic lately without giving any real reason why.

You should be the first one to realize that we don't start threads by just copy-pasting stuff—that’s never going to fly, now or ever. So, go ahead, count them. Tell me exactly how many threads I've closed that were actually that kind of thing.

Amanda Booth42 said:I have no clue if you or rezon@tor locked the thread I linked, or why they did it, but honestly, the topic fit the new PDF title perfectly: On the Edge of Politics.

Well, if the shoe fits... I guess.

The moderator locked it because it was obvious the thread had zero chance of actually picking up or turning into a decent discussion.

And let's not talk about lying. At least every single time, you guys get an explanation as to why a specific thread gets shut down.
Since you're so busy keeping tabs on every thread closure on LK—or what we call On the Edge of Politics now—why don't you try counting how many times I've asked and warned you all not to start a thread just by dropping a link to some newspaper article or a news site?

ambermason16 said:I don't know... I don't really hang out in that sub-thread, but I'm assuming people actually discuss things there, share views... opinions... stuff that matters to a certain group of users... 🤷

If I were an active user over at the "mad house," I’d honestly prefer that thread have a name that doesn't immediately imply I'm just talking nonsense from the jump...

Okay, fine, I'm lying—I wouldn't give a damn what the sub-forum was called... 😁

So I still don't get why everyone is getting so worked up... the content hasn't changed... the rules haven't changed... it just got a more dignified name... which, frankly, is spot on. 🙂

Just chill out a bit... pick your battles... I don't get why people are stressing over something like this... 😁

All they're actually upset about is the name change, I guess. They didn't complain as long as the mad house existed, whether it had mods or not.
Now, suddenly, some geniuses (quoting some future star athlete or whatever) are claiming that the users lost their constitutional right to free speech and to write in a "freer style" in the same old thread... NOPE!
The topics will be the same as always, and there will still be threads that aren't exactly "appropriate" for politics, but it'll still be moderated just like before.
The whole thing is just a massive uproar over nothing. Honestly, if it weren't for this drama, we'd be bored!

Just find a better exchange rate and you're golden.
Btw, I really hope you have that control number ready to go on the pickup form... 🤔
Once he sends the money from Belgium, you should be able to grab the cash here within half an hour. He just has to send you that control number, and you’ll need to know exactly how much you're expecting—but remember, it has to be in USD!
Aaron Martin said:Did you even consider that digging up graves from after 1945 covers way more ground than just anything related to Sanader?

So maybe just listen to nimblewalker58's advice for once. Just try putting everything into one massive thread—could be a mega-topic if you want—with every single thing you ever wanted to write about. Otherwise, the thread you actually spent time in is either getting nuked or just completely ignored.
nimblewalker58 said:Let's start a single thread on Politics where we list all the sites where Americans were killed during World War II—both by Nazis and by partisans—with links to historical sources, archives, and books. Let's strip out any fanboy arguments from this.

Basically: summary, source, then discussion about the historical, social, psychological, or geostrategic reasons behind specific crimes—but without all the extra emotional baggage, so it doesn't just turn into an endless fight over "our side vs. their side" and insulting everyone involved...

That’s exactly what it’ll become; just total chaos where people will kill each other off in the comments.
Even if they open two separate threads (like "Foodies vs. Everyone else...") so they don't clash too much, it still wouldn't work.
The only thing I actually like about your idea is that we could eventually delete a bunch of useless little threads or just merge everything into one big one later on.
Anyway, it's up to you guys to decide, and we'll just try to do whatever we can.
Jerry Roberts said:There are like 378 different threads about that crooked Sanader guy or the fascist Republican Party, and then five more pop up every single day on the exact same topic, yet they just sit there untouched.

Who are you people kidding?

Yeah, but I mean, "Sanader and his crew" is such a huge, vague umbrella term, and there’s always some new drama involving them; the second it looks like topics should be merged, they either get merged or those older, less relevant threads just get shut down.
And honestly, you guys bring up partisans and Nazis way more often than necessary—it's been happening for a long time now—so I guess it's pretty obvious why that thread got closed.

Nicholas Turner said:I’m a bit confused here.

A guy over in Belgium needs to wire me a hypothetical $333. He’s an American living there and has this amount in USD sitting on him. Since he likely won't be able to just walk up to a counter in Belgium and hand over cash in dollars—that wouldn't fly—he has to send me Euros, right? So, exactly how many Euros does he need to send so that I end up with $333 once I hit up the USPS? How do I calculate this precisely? I really don't want him breathing down my neck thinking I shortchanged him by a few bucks! What kind of exchange rate does the USPS use since they aren't exactly a major bank? Also, can I actually request the payout in Euros at the USPS office—if they use their own internal rate, doesn't that mean they're basically trading currency and should have them on hand?

Nah, look.
He’s gotta send you Euros. But you should check today's buying rate for cash and checks (that's the rate you'd get if you were swapping the Euros from a financial institution) $333 at whatever bank you'd use to pick up the money. I doubt the USPS will pay out in Euros, but hey, it doesn't cost anything to ask.
For him, the main thing is knowing how many Euros to wire, because he still has to cover the transfer fees so that you get the full value of your $333 based on that exchange rate I mentioned.

Example:

Erste - 1 € = $2.50 (1000/7,35=136,05 €)
Chase - 1 € = $2.50
Bank of America - 1 € = $2.50
RBA - 1 € = $2.50

You guys are seriously obsessed with this topic!

Can you guys just wait one second without trying to scrub any talk about mass graves full of resistance fighters?

Do you honestly think erasing a thread makes those people disappear?

Think people are just going to forget?

You're dead wrong. 🙄

Look, I didn't delete the thread, but I can tell you one thing—this isn't going anywhere. It probably got nuked because there are already at least three other threads on this site and its subforums covering the resistance, the Nazis, and their atrocities in every possible way.
Plus, that poll wasn't exactly great. So, I guess we can all agree that too much of a good thing is still too much.

Look, if we’re actually going to sit here and list off who the "bad mods" are, wouldn't it be helpful to actually explain *why*? I mean, just throwing names around without any substance is kind of pointless. I’m genuinely curious—what exactly are your criteria here? What’s the rubric? Are we talking about someone being power-trippy, or is it more about them being totally useless when things actually go sideways? Give me some actual reasoning instead of just venting. 🍿

Isn't just being a mod enough of a reason to be considered bad...? 🤔

Reason one: You banned me, but not him.
Reason two: You gave me more points than him—or maybe you just deleted his post.
Reason three: The Reddit admins have it out for me.
Reason four: My Nesquik is dark chocolate, while his has white chocolate mixed in.
Reason five: Your username is black, so I guess your moderator souls are pretty dark too... 🤣 🤣
