Look, we’ve been over this more than a few times now: please don't rush to start a new thread the second you spot a controversial post.
The protocol is simple. First, file a report. You can only open a discussion here after 24 hours have passed since that initial report was made—and keep in mind, not every single report actually warrants a full-blown debate.

Also, just a heads-up: any kind of insults or blatant rudeness in your complaints is something we simply won't tolerate.

And that’s why we have the key.
Hate speech based on race and religion in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Look, this subforum isn't meant to be a live feed for every single report you file.
The mod team doesn't sit glued to their screens 24/7, and honestly, there’s really no point in starting new threads here until at least 24 hours have passed since you submitted a report. Just give them some breathing room.
A few questions in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Regarding the moderator status, we agreed on removing those partial permissions from you, but just so we're clear—if you start throwing insults or drop a post that warrants a ban, those privileges will be automatically reinstated.
Partial issue in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Those posts have been flagged, and honestly, there wasn't any real need to start a whole new thread just yet—it’s only been a few hours since they went up.
The mod team doesn't sit around watching the boards 24/7, so please, just give it at least a full day after reporting something before you come looking for an appeal here.

I'm locking this thread now, though higher-ups can always step in if they feel it's necessary.
How much do you guys need? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
The thread is locked now. I wasn't online earlier so I didn't get a chance to jump in before the report was filed.
Unreported posts being ignored? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Linda Young38 said:I’d love for the Women's Corner moderator and our super-moderator Kate Wilson to explain why this specific post isn't being flagged as problematic or getting someone banned:

In my humble opinion, this is textbook "hate speech." In plenty of other cases—even ones that aren't nearly as extreme—people get slapped with a 500-point penalty for much less.

Do the moderators think hate speech is somehow justified here, or are they just pretending it doesn't exist?

And please, don't give me the old "oh, she didn't mean it like that, look at the smiley face" excuse.

The thread is literally titled "today's dose of chauvinism." Does that give everyone else on the board a free pass to be as chauvinistic as they want without consequences?

This is just the most glaring example. Most of the posts I report end up going unpunished, even when my reasoning is solid and almost any of those comments would be considered unacceptable anywhere else on the internet.

It wasn't penalized for hate speech because it doesn't qualify. When it comes to criticizing politicians, political groups, or public figures, we tend to be a bit more lenient than when users attack individual members or target people based on race, gender, or nationality.

Also, it’s simply not true that milder posts in the Women's Corner are being hit with 500-point hate speech penalties.

As for your reports, we only take action when we feel there’s actual merit to them.

ZK is a more relaxed sub-forum. Just because a post might get banned over in the Politics section doesn't mean it will be treated the same way here in ZK.
Moderation drama: When the mods get called out in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Jason Hall said:That last one—the second comment from the moderator—really speaks volumes about the person behind the keyboard. Honestly, it’s a shame there isn't a way to hold people like that accountable, regardless of what the actual issue was.

I was just scrolling through to see if any threads were still open when I stumbled upon this... this individual has already driven quite a few users away from our PDF resources, and frankly, I'm worried she might drive more off.

It really goes to show that old saying: give a person a little bit of power, and you'll see their true colors pretty quickly.

I have to wonder, though—is there any oversight for moderator decisions? And what kind of logic is it that when someone files a complaint against a moderator, the moderator being complained about is the one who gets to respond (and effectively shuts it down)?

The moderators explain their reasoning, while the super-mods or the admin step in whenever they feel it's necessary.
They can also jump into a thread even after it's been locked, so don't assume that just because a topic is closed, the higher-ups won't weigh in.
Should we give Psychocau Chat another chance? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Just like we mentioned right before closing out the previous thread, we’ll let everyone know once the moderators make a final call regarding the chat.
Opening yet another topic about this isn't going to change anything—it won't help, really. In fact, it might just land you a ban, especially if you're using these threads as a way to spam.
Requesting Zillow partials and thread deletion for a valid reason in Feedback & Suggestions ·
velvetbear372 said:Look, I’m asking for my partial points on Zillow and for this thread to be deleted, just like this other one here:

I honestly feel like these threads are dragging down the quality of my overall profile. I think that’s a perfectly valid reason to ask for a favor, especially since those 500 points I lost were totally unfair.

Is that fair enough? I’m just asking you guys to wipe them out because they’re honestly an eyesore. They’re silly and pointless in the end, and I really do have much better content posted elsewhere.

LP

We don't usually delete threads just because someone asks.

You can get your partial points, but this request follows the exact same rules as any other one.
Sabaa, I need an answer! in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Gregory Ramirez2 said:Alright, thanks for getting back to me, Christian Howard2.

One last thing:
How exactly will we find out about any new moderators being brought on board?
Is there going to be an official announcement, or will their names just suddenly pop up on the Alternative moderator list without anyone saying a word?

Just like every other subforum here, their name will simply show up on the moderator list.

Gregory Ramirez2 said:Hey Christian Howard2,
Nica mentioned you were the supermod in charge of the Alternative subreddit. Since there hasn't been an active moderator on it for months now—honestly, nobody is even watching it at the moment—and things are just going downhill (constant insults, flame wars, etc.), I was wondering if you could let me know when, or at least what the longest possible timeframe might be, before Alternative finally gets a moderator assigned?

PS: Or is Dyma actually the supermod for Alternative? I can't quite remember anymore because that's just what Nica told me a few months back...

I think there might have been a bit of a misunderstanding between you and Nica, because as far as I know, I’m not the supermod for Alternative. At least, that’s my understanding of the situation.😁

Unfortunately, I can't give you a specific timeline for when the issues over at Alternative will be sorted out, but believe me, we all see what's happening there.

Once again, you guys are getting way too heated in the arguments here. This sub isn't meant for all this bickering.
Is human cloning still illegal? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Cloning accounts isn't strictly forbidden, but you aren't allowed to use multiple handles to jump into the same discussions.

Just reach out to the moderators of the subforums you hang out in. Let them know you're retiring this account and moving over to a new one.
Moderation on PDF: Alternatives to the Science Edge V forum in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Look, we all know this isn't the way to pick moderators, nor is this the right place to do it. You guys know that just as well as I do.
Besides, this thread isn't meant to be some digital boxing ring for endless bickering and arguments. It's for laying out actual, concrete complaints and suggestions, exactly how the rules state.
Thanks, but... in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Alice isn't around right now, and besides, the moderator banned Scott Long71.
Since none of us actually have any inside info to give you an answer, we're going to go ahead and close this thread. I really don't want this to turn into a massive Reddit flame war where everyone starts speculating about who did what to whom.

Don't worry, you'll still get your answer eventually. We can always unlock the thread later if we need to.
Clones and penalty points in Feedback & Suggestions ·
If you want to follow the PDF guidelines, just drop the links to whatever you think is out of line and report any Clones who are breaking the rules.
I’m not quite following what you mean by that.

To everyone else who just popped in here to hang out—look, PZK isn't really a place for casual chatting or killing time, even if you happen to catch us mods offline for a second.
Moderation on PDF: Alternatives to the Darwinian Edge III in Feedback & Suggestions ·
The moderators over here don't actually get notified about reports coming in from other subforums, so we have a rule that you need to include direct links if you're filing an appeal here.
Moderation for PDF: Edge of Science II Alternatives in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I’m going to take some time to look through all your applications, but in the meantime, I'm locking this thread.
Quick question in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Look, this isn't an appeal for a ban—that’s strictly what the ban corner is for.
Question about the US vs. Psychocaut debate in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Just a quick heads-up: this subforum isn't actually where you go to report posts. If you see something that breaks the rules, just hit that little triangle icon on the post itself to flag it.
You should only be posting here if you've already filed a report and haven't heard back from us after more than 24 hours.
