Honestly, this is easily one of the two worst films I've ever sat through!
Maybe I just don't have a thing for Ben Stiller.
And no, I don't spend twelve hours a day obsessing over football.
I would love to see a film adaptation based on either Zagora or Alan Ford. My ideal scenario would be a major US production or perhaps an Italian one, provided they have a massive budget—enough to actually make it look decent. I’d also want a solid cast; not necessarily A-listers, but actors who don't deliver those wooden, amateur performances we sometimes see locally.

How on earth does anyone think you can adapt Morrowind into a movie? The game doesn't even have a cohesive plot, let alone one that's better than your typical low-budget trash.
It’s the same story with Baldur's Gate 2—the narrative is just as thin as a bad flick. A guy tries to save his sister from some villain while just trying to survive? Please. How many Jean-Claude Van Damme movies have already hit that exact same trope?
As for Planescape: Torment, you can forget about that too. It's far too complex for the average moviegoer. If they tried to simplify it, the whole thing would lose its soul anyway.
Most games don't rely on heavy storytelling; their entire appeal lies in the fact that the player actually shapes the outcome, rather than just sitting there watching it happen!

I know Dungeons & Dragons 2 well enough—I actually sat through it. Ever since then, whenever anyone asks me what the absolute worst movie I've ever seen is, I name it without a second thought. It was an unmitigated disaster!

You clearly haven't sat through enough actual trash or those movies trying way too hard to be trash.
Personally, I think the first Dungeons & Dragons movie was even worse.
Wishing everyone nothing but the best 🙂 🙂 🙂

Just walked out of the theater after seeing Children of Men, and honestly, I need to move it straight to my all-time favorites list.
Oh, I see... So you're telling me the kidnapping never happened and that plane never even went down?
I'm having a hard time following what kind of lie you think you're telling me...

Look, I sent you the link earlier. Once you actually sit down and watch it, come back and we can discuss what you think.

Hmm, I can already smell another Daredevil disaster brewing here!

@bluebison8: After LOTR, a Dungeons & Dragons setting was born that eventually outgrew the scope of LOTR itself. Because of that, it stands as a benchmark.

That benchmark only applies within the realm of Pen & Paper games; when you look at novels or movies, it’s nowhere near that level.
Tolkien has always been the standard for fantasy novels, and ever since those LOTR films hit the big screen, he's become the yardstick for all fantasy cinema.

redowl90 said:Propaganda?

Exactly. Even if it’s styled "almost" like a documentary, if the foundation is built on lies, then the entire film is nothing more than propaganda at best.

Look, I realize you aren't obligated to follow them, but if you can't build a compelling world of your own, then at least respect the d/d rules. Not everyone has the knack for crafting great Fantasy... That's all I was getting at.

I play Dungeons & Dragons and I love it, but honestly? This is just nonsense. Dungeons & Dragons is Fantasy, sure, but Fantasy isn't defined by Dungeons & Dragons. If you’re going to be pedantic about it, then fine—say that if someone can't invent a good Fantasy setting, they should just stick to Lord of the Rings, even if that's equally ridiculous. There have been countless incredible Fantasy stories and worlds released both before and after Lord of the Rings, and not a single one of them defines the entire genre.

I think he was referring to United 93, whereas you seem to be thinking of Flight 93...

Lol, what’s even the difference? Both movies are full of lies and nonsense—classic American propaganda.
If you actually think those films are good, watch this instead:

Once you've watched this, go ahead and check out the other six parts of this seven-part documentary series.

Oh yeah, this is one of those rare movies where, about 20 minutes in, I actually started rooting for both the protagonist and the dragon to just drop dead already. Honestly, even that moron of a king would have been a better pick than this kid. If only Shade had just grabbed the boy and somehow used him to take out the king—now *that* would have been a cool movie!

Just one movie for me: V for Vendetta!

I watched this movie today, and honestly, it was fun. Fun in the way only a total piece of trash can be.
My favorite part had to be at the beginning, when that guy shows up wearing his Levi's jeans.
Or how every single horse in the film somehow manages to outrun a dragon.
Then there’s the traitor's son, who supposedly hears about some dragon riders, travels for an entire week without stopping at a single village, and yet they just happen to stumble right upon him.
Still, I'd say it's one of the better trash movies I've sat through.
That sounds great. Let's go see it on the first run.
@Brian Williams/">@@Brian Williams: So, you only care about movies like The Matrix or Lord of the Rings? Is everything else just beneath you? I mean, if films like Equilibrium and Underworld—which aren't necessarily masterpieces, but they're solid and fun to watch—are considered garbage by your standards, then your criteria are honestly pretty bizarre.
I sat down to watch Equilibrium and Underworld. Honestly? Equilibrium is just pure, heavy-duty trash. You've got these painter-assassins, sloppy directing, a weak script, and those derivative Matrix-style fights... it feels like a total amateur, low-budget production. Maybe there was a spark of potential somewhere in there, but no. On the other hand, the trailer looked pretty great, but the actual movie is a completely different beast and I didn't stick with it long. Regardless, I'm actually looking forward to Ultraviolet.

As for Underworld, it’s just a poorly directed, boring mess. I have zero interest in seeing a sequel. I spent even less time being engaged with that one than I did with Equilibrium.

You sound like someone who thinks these movies are too highbrow for us mere mortals and our "bad" films. I certainly hope I don't run into you at the theater during the sequels so I can enjoy my movies in peace.

Don't forget about Underworld 2 and the Batman Begins !!! sequel either.

Pure garbage.
I don't think I've ever seen a movie that could be more accurately summarized by just those two words.
The Watch (2004) in Movies ·
computer animation that exists solely for its own sake (think back to that brilliant sequence of screws falling into a coffee cup—it serves absolutely zero purpose in the plot other than to show off that they have the budget and the tech to pull it off)

Thank God someone else actually caught that.
Everyone is constantly tearing Hollywood special effects to shreds, yet here, people are singing praises for effects that are far more poorly integrated.
My overall impression? Disappointing. On my way to the theater, I read an online review describing the film as something between Lord of the Rings and The Matrix, and like a fool, I actually expected that level of quality. Well, you live and you learn. From now on, I am strictly avoiding Russian films in the cinema.
