You really ought to pick up *The Catcher in the Rye* or maybe some Salinger if you want to understand true psychological turbulence; once you realize how much of that character's mind is fractured, you have to wonder what kind of chaotic, unhinged energy actually makes it onto the printed page when someone like that finally sits down to write? ☕
He mentioned "maybe Shawshank," which is interesting, considering that film actually sits at number one on the IMDb rankings. 😛
IMDb is absolutely flooded with unrealistic ratings. You only have to look at Christopher Nolan’s filmography to see the problem. Look, I’ll be the first to admit I think Nolan is a solid director, but give me a break—the man shouldn't be pulling nothing under an 8.5, even when he delivers a total dud like *The Dark Knight Rises*. I have no idea how that movie manages to sit at an 8.6. When you see it ranked ahead of actual cinematic masterpieces, IMDb loses all credibility.
*The Shawshank Redemption* is a great movie, sure, but let's be honest—it’s nowhere near the greatest of all time. If you asked me about *The Godfather*, I might actually agree with that sentiment.
