You guys already covered the praise, so I'll stick to the gripes... The movie drags way too long. Once you cross that two-hour mark, you just stop caring about who ends up dead. Plus, the logic is totally broken—there’s no way Depp is cursed when he only held that gold coin for five minutes, while the girl and Bloom had it the whole time.😕 It's a decent pirate flick, nothing exhausting, but let's be honest, it isn't groundbreaking either. You can only really call it a hit if you factor in the genre and Depp's presence.
To me, pretentiousness is just noise... but I actually liked this movie because it didn't feel like Sofia Coppola was trying to make some grand statement about life or explain things we're too dim to figure out ourselves.. It’s actually the opposite. The film feels like a snapshot from childhood. No preaching, no deep philosophy, no big epiphanies. Just the realization that even though we think everything can be explained logically, that isn't always true. It’s not like the parents were monsters or the girls were walking tragedies. To me, the key is that scene where they read the diary, expecting to find some massive motive for the first girl's suicide, when it really just boils down to everyday nonsense... lunch, school, dinner... No matter how close they were, how many diaries they read, or how many photos they looked at... there isn't always a rational answer for everything... ..but I guess we get each other anyway😘
I actually loved this movie... It’s just one of those small, low-key, honest films. Even though it tackles such heavy themes, it never feels forced or exhausting. Honestly, it feels more like a hazy childhood memory—one of those stories where you can never quite piece all the fragments together perfectly. Can't wait for the next Sofia Coppola project... p.s. Kirsten Dunst is way better than Claire Danes🙂
I’m trying to recall what I actually forgot the second I walked out of the theater... but nothing. It’s gone.🙄 Sometimes it's better to just wipe certain things from your memory entirely. The only thing that comes to mind is that dragon movie, "Reign of Fire." But honestly, that was so bad it actually stuck in my brain, so it doesn't count.
Look, everyone’s got their own reasons for loving or hating a movie... Pick a side between the second or third installment if you want, but honestly? Four just feels like some cheap TV series recycling a tired trope in the worst way possible. It didn't bring anything new to the franchise, whether you're looking at the direction or the script. The characters are just walking stereotypes—you've got the one white guy, the one tough Black guy, and so on—and there's zero tension. As for the acting, most of them aren't even essential to the plot. You really only have one lead actress and one lead actor driving things. Sure, Winona is cute, but that's beside the point.
"I listen to the best music," blah blah blah... Apparently, Thompson is king because he plays rock just because he holds a guitar, metal is only because they wear black, ethno is just people wrapped up like cargo, and pop is whatever happens when someone covers ABBA... blah blah blah... "My band is better than yours," blah blah blah... What a load of crap.🙂
That’s exactly the issue. There isn't a single trace of Shrek... why is that? It feels like straight-up discrimination at this point.😁 ...plus, the censorship in this thread is getting ridiculous.🙂 Long live a free press.🙂
