Honestly, I feel like everyone is talking about beer here, yet nobody has even brought up the absolute best local brew—Tomislav! 😁

Since we’re already making all these ridiculous little lists, here are my favorite "spots" to grab a drink (though they aren't necessarily the best places to actually swallow something 😁 )

1. the beach (obviously
) 2. a hilltop overlook near the city
3. a scenic lookout
4. a quiet cemetery
5. those little park benches right downtown

And hey, go easy on Mance, guys—seriously, where is your respect?

I know there isn't a ton of text here, but man, this stuff is incredible!!
🙏

Honestly, I just don't get what's up with everyone tagging their absolute favorite bands with Madonna (okay, fine, maybe it wasn't 😁 , it was more like Bob Dylan and such...) and stuff like that... It's like, come on, don't we have plenty of other threads dedicated to just sharing our all-time favorites and everything else?

Radiohead - Treefingers
Pink Floyd - Echoes

I'm with you on that!

Kevin Chavez said:Well, you caught me! I’m actually swapping out one Douglas from your list for another—Adams, obviously! But, just so I don't sound exactly like everyone else raving about the "guide," I should mention that I stumbled upon two of his shorter novels in an old issue of Monolith. They aren't connected to the main series, but man, they are just as brilliant!

Oh man, you totally reminded me of that (thanks for the trip down memory lane!)—I actually ran into those books once too! I managed to finish the first one, but I never quite got around to the second... and honestly, I have no clue why I ended up returning it to the library so quickly! 😕 It was that whole Holistic Detective Agency thing by Dottie Gently; I definitely read that one, but the other one? Not so much...

Anyway, here's a little something totally unique from my side: my absolute favorite bands: 😁

1. Pink Floyd
2. R. E. M.
3. Radiohead 4. Goo
4. The Dolls
5. Dream Theater
6. Interpol
7. Ugh, I can't be bothered to list any more!

2. Bruce Springsteen - Golden Years
3. Beach Boys - Surfer Girl
4. Beach Boys - Wouldn't It Be Nice
5. Marina - Marina
6. Fleetwood Mac - Good Old Days (okay, maybe it's not played *that* often, but man, I can't stand it!)

Finally, my all-time favorite Classic Rock Albums:

1. Wish You Were Here
2. Dark Side of the Moon
3. Piper at the Gates of Dawn
4. Wall
5. Animals
R.E.M. in Washington, D.C.!? in Music ·
Austin Doyle40 said:There's a press conference happening today in Vienna where they’re finally going to announce the date for the Washington, D.C. show....
January 19th, at the United Center ($100)

Wait, hold on—is that $100 for sure?

If only... As long as it doesn't end up being a total disaster like that PJ Harvey show.

Wait, what does it actually say?
Who is the best British band? in Music ·
Daniel Booth88 said:Haha, yeah! Try saying that out loud while you're hanging out in, say, a rougher part of Chicago... 😁

Alright, alright, I hear you.

Here’s the deal though—geographically speaking, the United States is a massive country, but if we look at how people group things, it's all about those distinct regions and states. It's like how you have different territories making up the whole map.

But, I totally get what you mean! It's like when people use terms that sound totally "normal" to them—like calling something the "Midwest Heartland" even if it doesn't perfectly fit everyone's definition—and then they try to lump us all into one big category. It's so frustrating! Grrr...

Quick correction on my last post: D.P. actually mentioned Asian Dub Foundation.
Who is the best British band? in Music ·
Edward Robinson6, I think Jack of all trades put Asian Dub Foundation in there somewhere.

I honestly feel a bit silly even setting up a poll now—because, like someone already pointed out, half of these bands are actually from the United Kingdom!

If any of the moderators feels like stepping in, please go ahead and set one up—after all, you guys can include more than just 10 options anyway, right?

I’m a little confused here, though. Scotland is part of the United Kingdom, isn't it? It's definitely part of the UK!

Edit: Oh, well, fine! It's (very) likely that Belle and Sebastian would much prefer it if we didn't just shove them into the British band category.

Ocean Colour Scene, Ash (I put USA in parentheses, does that look better?)

Hey everyone, is it just me, or does The Clash just not hit the same anymore? Actually—is it even that recent, or have we been feeling this for a while now?
Who is the best British band? in Music ·
Hmm, I’d actually love to see some picks from bands that are still actively making music! Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore Pink Floyd, but it feels a little silly to toss them into a poll like this, doesn't it?

I honestly don't get why people would think Belle & Sebastian wouldn't be thrilled... I mean, back in a tiny little country in the States with maybe 4 million people—just one of those small spots—someone on their biggest local internet forum actually called them the greatest band from the USA. They're Scots, right?
Who is the best British band? in Music ·
Throw some suggestions my way and we’ll get a poll going!

I am seriously curious to see what you all think.

Radiohead
Coldplay (okay, I know—prepare to throw stones at me now, right?)

Who are the biggest liars? in Music ·
PrittPen said:Well, that's exactly what I said... and honestly, I don't mind saying "Levis"... that's just how I talk in American English...

Alright then.

urbannomad30 said:PrittPen, technically it is "Lie-ers" (like Levi's :-), but good luck trying to explain that to some random guy in the Midwest...

The emphasis is on is.

Come on, people! An entire day has gone by and nobody has said a single word about Liars? Seriously?

Here is a little copy/paste from www.allmusic.com:

Liars was conceived in November 2000 after two friends and ex-Los Angeles art students Aaron Hemphill and Angus Andrew reunited in New York City. They responded to a "musicians wanted" ad posted in a local record store by two Nebraskans, Pat Noecker and Ron Albertson. The lurching Aussie Andrew took on the vocal/frontman duties while Hemphill became their guitarist and drum-machine programmer. Bassist Noecker and drummer Albertson make up the Liars' rhythm section. Combined, they write music exhibiting fundamental elements of punk rock that is surprisingly formulated after the beats are laid down on the drum machine. Synthetic keypads, vocal modulation, and these interspersed pre-arranged compositions, mixed with their guitar-bass-drums equation, create angular yet melodic songs. Liars is reminiscent of U.K. groups who embraced dance music during the late '70s/early '80s — A Certain Ratio, Gang of Four, the Slits — bands who are all insidiously known for adding danceable rhythms to punk.
Only months after forming, the group played its first show. Liars' debut album, They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top, was released on independent Gern Blandsten Records in October 2001 and was later reissued by Blast First/Mute. The album was recorded in just two days by producer/engineer Steve Revitte, who's best-known for his work with the Beastie Boys and Lee "Scratch" Perry.

Whatever...

Are we a couple? - AT&T Gallery commercial in Movies ·
Jose Miller17 said:I swear, I’m boycotting their ads and those cheap, flimsy DVDs too—total elitists... honestly! They give gifts to all these cute little couples... how "romantic," right? As if being in love isn't enough! As if they don't have enough going on by seeing each other every day, or having to deal with someone whispering plot spoilers in their ear during a movie at AMC Theatres... but no, we just HAVE to reward them because they're such pathetic lovers. What’s next? Are they gonna start handing out gifts to people who just got dumped? Or maybe for the lonely folks? For the broke ones? For the people who dressed poorly today? Nah, the elitists won't do that, obviously... because apparently, just being single isn't bad enough—you have to rot in hell, too! No gifts for them... only for the lovebirds. Next thing you know, there'll be a campaign called "We're Loaded," or "My Dad is a Billionaire," or "I Have Everything in Life"...
...
Oh, and what gift? Chicago... man, that sounds genius... I’d practically dump my girlfriend if they shoved that into my hands right now!

Seats in China in Movies ·
Sandra Thomas24 said:I was actually so shocked last year when I walked into a theater in Paris and realized there were no seat numbers! It was this massive cinema—we got there 45 minutes before the movie even started, so you’d think we could just find a decent spot and chill out, right? But man, what a scramble... phew. And honestly, it's definitely not the best feeling being stuck way in the back row when you have to🙂

Personally, I think the middle of the back row is actually pretty great... though, if I'm being totally honest, my absolute favorite spot is right in the center of the whole auditorium! 🙂

By the way, AMC Theatres started putting in those "couples' seats" lately, and oh my gosh, it's such a disaster. For example, a group of ten of us went recently, and they handed us two of those double loveseat seats even though we didn't ask for them! To make matters worse, there was this super boring couple sitting just a couple of seats away from us in the regular chairs. Such a bummer. Broadway🙂
Grandpa, look, I know you're a guy—that really should have been enough motivation for you to fix the "fe" in "female" under your username!

I mean, seriously people, "your mom dont admit it"??? It's supposed to be "doesn't," right?? Honestly, nowadays even that kind of slang just sounds totally uneducated. 😁

And that whole bit about "Pixies u PJ Harvey" is obviously just a typo—you can see how close the "i" and the "u" are on the keyboard...

Oh, by the way, what’s the deal with PJ Harvey anyway? Isn't her name Polly?

A friend of mine actually slipped me that article—and I'm telling you, this stuff about the Pixies is total gossip, there's no way! But hey, it kept me in high spirits all day.

So, if anyone happens to have all the PJ Harvey albums (and maybe some bootlegs, live recordings, or whatever else) and feels like being extra kind, could you please shoot me a PM? Pretty please?
grandpa the du du monkey said:Fire walk with me. 😁

Oh boy, here we go—another fan obsessing over shows that ended ages ago... 😁

I mean, seriously, if there’s ever a Pixies u PJ Harvey concert, every single music nerd on this forum will be right there in the front row... 😁

Honestly, some people would probably lose their minds if one of them ever stepped off the stage for good... 😁

But really though, what are the actual odds of the Pixies playing a show in Washington, D.C.?
PJ Harvey and the Pixies? Seriously? That sounds way too good to be true—honestly, God, I wish!🙏 🙏
