Jose Miller17 said:That’s not even a top 5, it’s more like a top 7... plus, I just noticed you skipped 'The Man Who Wasn't There' entirely, yet somehow squeezed in 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?'
Lucky for you the Coen brothers aren't reading this, otherwise they'd tell you your list is garbage (they don't mess around)😁😁 ....

Our tastes are so different I'm starting to wonder if you're actually my ex or something.😁

Jose Miller17 said:Look, if you've got a thing for Hulahups, that's your business.😁😁

A Hulahup is one thing, but Hulahup leggings are a whole different beast. Honestly, I’m into both.😬
I think BS is decent, but since it didn't make my top 5, the Coen brothers just have to live with that.😁

Jose Miller17 said:honestly, brightscout63 lecturing us on the Coen brothers' filmography while leaving out Blood Simple just to put Hullahop on the list is pretty unforgivable. ttttt ;-)

Not lecturing anyone here. Hullahop is just better... deal with it. 🙂 😁

Larry Ramirez10 said:Everyone’s talking about the Coen brothers, but nobody mentions Blood Simple.😕

That was intentional.
It's their first one (if I recall correctly), and honestly, it doesn't really deserve the hype. I watched it ages ago and just couldn't get into it. Still, it's probably better than 75% of the other movies out there.😁

The Coen brothers are absolute legends. If you haven't seen a single one of their flicks yet, consider this your mandatory reading list:

1. The Big Lebowski
2. Miller's Crossing
3. Barton Fink
4. Fargo
5. Arizona
6. junior 6. mr. Hullahopp
7. O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Then you can actually have an opinion on them. 😁
Godfather Snatch

Godfather

Godfather Goodfellas
😁Snatch on VHS
I can't think of any absolute classics offhand, but man, "hurley burley" was about as thrilling as sitting through a Sunday morning sermon. 😁

Taxi Driver

I honestly don't see the hype with this movie.

The plot is basic, there's zero complexity, and even Robert De Niro's performance feels pretty mid. I mean, sure, you've got that one "Are you talkin' to me?" scene, but if that wasn't in there, I doubt anyone would even care about this flick.

Top 250 on IMDb? Yeah, right...

🙄

I won't come for you, but maybe drop that take before you run into someone who isn't feeling quite so chill.😁

Jose Miller17 said:People seem obsessed with reacting to stuff... like, what does 'pleasantly surprised' or 'impressive' even mean? It’s total fluff. I want to know the actual substance. How are you supposed to have a conversation if you aren't actually saying anything?
Let me guess, the next response is going to be "I wasn't impressed" or "It was boring" 👍 <---- my personal favorite. Apparently, they teach that in elementary school. Or "It was great." Then someone else goes "it was," and someone else goes "it wasn't," and we just cycle through that until the end of time.

You're lying about being "nice and polite"😁
Look, I ration my comments out because if I posted them all at once, I wouldn't have anything left to live on. 😁

Anything I try to say about the movie right now is basically a spoiler minefield. There's this one part that'll give you the chills, and the director does a decent job juggling the dark comedy and the drama (yeah, I love my clichés).
Whether people think it's "awesome" or "boring" doesn't move the needle for me. But I definitely recommend it.
The only thing that kills the slightly surreal vibe is the fact that it was filmed near a coal mine by Mount Rainier. 😁

Anyone seen Westward (R. Ahmed Imamović; starring Tarik Filipović, Mario Drmač, and Rade Šerbedžija)? Curious what you guys thought.

I gotta say, it actually caught me off guard in a good way. It hit home, though that ending was a little too much of a tear-jerker for my taste.

I was pretty disappointed. Felt like his only real goal was just to shock people for the sake of it.
Plot? Forget the plot. Pacing? Don't even get me started.
What did Ivy record on October 21, 2003? in Movies ·
Man, I seriously can't wrap my head around how anyone could pick a title like that! 😁

How are you even supposed to say it? "I'm going to watch What is Ivy..." or "Watching Ivy..." or "October 23rd..." 😕 😁

Finally got around to watching it. 👋

Where on earth did you find this gem? 😠
Been looking for this forever...

Red Star Belgrade completely choked in Sarajevo. Sesar and Zadravec handed Sirok a 20-point blowout in Canada. Partizan did exactly what you'd expect, but Slovan is the only one that actually managed to pick my pocket for 50 bucks 😠
That beautiful Miami night in Movies ·
I know this thread is basically dead, but I finally sat down to watch the movie yesterday. Honestly, I went in with zero expectations, remote in hand, ready to bail because we all know how "great" American indie cinema can be sometimes. But man, what a shocker... total chaos! 😁
It was a pleasant surprise, though. I have to admit, the film was killer right up until that last segment. Looking at the comments, it seems a lot of people couldn't stomach the ending. Same here. Why the hell does every new director feel the need to dive into metaphysics and surrealism?! 😠
Screw Kusturica! 😁

kozz said:My worst fears were confirmed.

The movie is a total wash. It feels like it was—I kid you not—cobbled together from half-baked ideas. It’s like the director himself is trying to figure out what the hell he’s making while the cameras are rolling. None of it works: not the art direction, not those cute little shots with the red caps and Adidas gear, and definitely not the cast. Nobody knows how to play their part—some are playing caricatures, some are trying way too hard to act minimal, and then there's Murray just leaning into his usual deadpan routine.
The whole thing feels like an uninspired retread: "Hey, let's remake the Tenenbaums, but this time, put them by the ocean!" ... and that's it.

The only highlights are Bowie's songs in Portuguese and Blanchett looking sexy. 😍

Actually, it's pretty good... Before watching, I read all these ecstatic, borderline-orgasmic reviews, and halfway through, I started wondering if something was wrong with me because I was dying of boredom. Now that the one forum user whose opinion I actually respect 😳 agrees with me, I can sleep easy knowing it's the movie's fault, not mine. 😁

Just check the filming dates against when the attacks actually happened. Pretty sure you'll see the truth there. 😁

Donna Chavez4 said:I read somewhere that the director pulled inspiration from everything going on back then: Bill Clinton, Monica Lewinsky, and the bombing of America.

No conspiracy here. It was filmed way before any of that happened.

Amenabar was great, Brad Pitt was good (though maybe not quite the legend everyone makes him out to be), and the movie itself is solid (even if people are overhyping it). 😁

Wait until you see this one classic scene from an American movie...

electriclynx20 said:Seriously, I haven't seen this many boom mics in any movie before... It’s just lazy filmmaking. We weren't even watching the movie; we were just staring at microphones hovering at the top of the frame. Total amateur hour...

Man, what a mess. Someone pointed this out a while back... I don't know the technical specs, but the projector is supposed to be angled so you don't catch the gear in the shot. I watched the DVD version and the mics weren't even there. ☕
