Rock Lyrics & Poetry in Music ·
I’m reading through this and seeing what kind of mistakes were made under rock poetry, and I am honestly dying laughing. Nobody actually caught the beat—if there even was one—and yet everyone is still arguing about it. At least I got two good laughs out of the 🙂
thread.
Why does everything have to be in American? I’d be fine with English too. If anyone wants it in English, just raise your hand. Honestly, I don't really care; it's just another copy/paste thread 😁 but here is one that is actually funny and clever 😁

Honk if you're Lonely ( Silver jews )

Radio's on , feeling All right
Cruising The strip on a Saturday Night.
i Wave and i Hide All my pain but The Sign on my bumper gives me away :

Honk if you're lonely tonight
If you need a friend to get through The Night
A toot on Your Horn, a flash of your brights
Honk if you're lonely tonight.

I know a honky-tonk where we can go.
A booth in the back with the lights way down low.
The jukebox is playing a sad melody
for heart-broken lovers like you and me.

We'll laugh and we'll flirt and we'll dance every dance
and before the night's over we'll take a chance.
The morning will find us with a smile on our face
and we'll be together in a lover's embrace.

(chorus)

I know it seems sad to be so damn blue
but there's always the chance that you'll meet someone new.
I know that somewhere waiting for me
is a sad lonely lover with a bumper that reads:

(chorus)

"Crocodile II."
And honestly, I’m pretty embarrassed about it.

But those three women from Miami are absolute perfection.
👍 👍

Wait, they ACTUALLY made a sequel!?!!? 😲 I can't believe it!!!

Torcida said:Of course it's a Nirvana song. The fact that Bowie wrote it doesn't change anything. He wrote it specifically for them.

😕 Are you actually like this, or are you just pretending? 😁

What did he write for them? That song came out in '71, right when Cobain was just starting kindergarten.

Carol Jackson45, why won't you just give me authorization on AOL Instant Messenger so we can hang out and talk about Carter?

Carter USM? Man, just bring some by this Sunday, okay? (Not your fault, I'm just feeling it... 🙂

Hey, Dana Anderson4 😁... this thread was started about a year and a half ago, so I'm not sure if your advice is still relevant or even needed 😉
Boris said:The last three movies I saw in theaters were Charlie's Angels 2, Terminator 3, and Lara Croft 2. Honestly, I wish I hadn't bothered. Luckily, I forgot most of the "plot" before the credits even rolled.👎 😢

I don't get WHY people even bother going to see stuff like that in a theater. I’ve never gone. Even without seeing it, I already know it’s garbage. I’d much rather hit up a local indie cinema for a week-long foreign film festival or something similar.

It’s been ages since I actually sat in a movie theater (if you don't count special screenings or film festivals). But I remember one time, just out of pure boredom during a scorching summer, we wandered through a quiet town—not quite as dusty as those old Western sets—just to catch a flick. I can't recall the title, but I know it starred that actress from that show with all the ladies (wasn't that helpful? 😁 You know, the one with the three old roommates... the name is totally escaping me right now...) and there were these massive crocodiles involved. It was incredibly stupid, but not quite bad enough to be "good" trash. Still, there were a few trashy scenes. My favorite part, though? At the end, they somehow catch the crocodile... or something like that. The writer was clearly so rushed that they left enough material open for a sequel involving tiny baby crocodiles. As if anyone would ever want to watch a sequel to THAT. Jeez.

Hey, I haven't read this one before. But Peter, where on earth did you find that "universal translator"... honestly, I haven't laughed this hard in ages...

But Rancid!!!!!!! We definitely need Rancid.😎

I just couldn't get my hands on those damn Motörhead records... they wouldn't let me have them, plain and simple...

But honestly, whoever told Roger Jones5 that he was boring is dead wrong. This playlist would be absolute perfection, and I’d have a blast listening to it. If you actually read 🙂 ... well, I think a few of you already know I am definitely NOT boring

Tupac Shakur said:Since when did fruit and burgers become brain-dead? 😕

People have been drumming and writing lyrics since they crawled out of caves. Why limit ourselves to modern hits from the US? We've got vocal groups, Mexico, The Spaniard, southern Italy, Ohio, Jamaica, India, cowboys, Canada, Mexico, Albania... 🙂

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but lately, even the "cool" stuff is starting to grate on my nerves. And embracing your roots doesn't have to mean embracing hate and stupidity. Louis Armstrong moves me to my core, and honestly, so be it. 🙂

I never said fruit, burgers, or returning to your roots was brain-dead. I specifically meant (newly composed) TURBO-FOLK. So, you can go ahead and scrap everything else you said about vocal groups, Louis Armstrong, and Mexico.

placidotter15 said:Besides, what's the issue if people dance to it? At least they aren't kicking each other like punks do when they dance. They're just having a good time and staying positive.

😕 Punks kick each other when they're having fun, too. Plus, broken glass isn't exactly safe. 😁

But for the most part:

Look, personally, MTV rap and techno (if we're generalizing here, let's not get bogged down in exceptions) aren't any better than country music. They both totally fit that "mind-numbing" description. And Bon Jovi, obviously. 😁 but thats my opinion. and don't try to drag punk dancing into this. thats smart music 😂

Of course, everyone should listen to whatever they want. I’m all for it. I know plenty of legendary people who hang out at local dive bars in Philly and then I see them at a Violent Femmes show or something. I'm not judging country music—when you're drunk, mindless tunes are a blast—but I was trying to explain why the majority might see country as primitive. Though, honestly, I have no idea.

placidotter15 said:I’d love to see an actual, reasoned argument for why country music is considered primitive. I'm assuming we're talking about that trashy pop-country stuff. So, what's the issue? Is it because the artists are from certain parts of the South? Is it the instruments? The singing style? Or just how people act when they listen to it? As far as I can tell, when people listen to this stuff, they’re just happy. They aren't out there fighting or whatever. Is the dancing primitive? If that's the case, then punks are way more primitive when they're moshing and throwing 🙂. Not to mention those political rallies where everyone gets high on whatever they're smoking, lost in their own world, waving hands and dancing with lit cigarettes while watching some guy spin a cigarette 😵. If we're judging by that standard, then we're all primitive. 🙂

If a musical genre doesn't suit our taste, that shouldn't make it "primitive." Honestly, anyone who claims something is primitive just because they don't like it is actually showing their own lack of sophistication. 🙂 Thank God the world works such that there's something for everyone. We all find ourselves in different things. It's just easier to say, "those people are idiots." And when forced to explain why, it becomes, "because they're Southerners"... 🙄

Later.

The problem isn't the people; the problem is that the music is so shallow and mind-numbing that it only works alongside greasy burgers and fries—like some weird ritual to reclaim your old-school roots.

For the millionth time, the issue is that for some people, music is supposed to be more than just background noise for a party. Country music has no place in that category. In fact, its sheer stupidity insults any serious musicians out there.

To everyone hating on country music—do yourself a favor. Grab some greasy burgers, crack open a bottle of bourbon, and blast some Tomo Zdravković. 🙂 It’s a total blast. 😁

I did exactly that yesterday at a BBQ in Austin. 🤣

It looks like crimsonjackal8 is the only one here who actually knows how to party 🙂. Listen, people, this list is actually better than my suggestion (though only by a hair, granted 😁). When you show up to a party, you want to jump around, not try to look cool dancing to freaking Faithless and Underworld. (Don't get me wrong, that's just for warming up...) I can see myself as that person with the bow in the "rock" smiley face at the end of the list.
