What would an ideal domestic lineup in a 4-4-2 look like? Because let's face it—nobody around here actually pulls it off successfully.

I just finished reading this book and honestly, I loved it—it was fantastic. I didn't even realize there was a movie adaptation out there, but if they managed to capture that same magic from the pages, it could actually be pretty good.

It’s a great movie—the voices are straight out of South Park, and they absolutely tear certain people to shreds.

I downloaded the soundtrack immediately—it’s not quite on the level of Bigger, Longer and Uncut, but it’s still worth owning. Everyone Has AIDS, America, Fuck Yeah!, I'm so lonely, Freedom isn't Free, The end of an Act... just legendary stuff.

I won't get into the specifics because I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, but you really should watch it. If you're a fan of South Park, you'll love it—and if you aren't? Well, then you clearly don't know what real satire looks like...

Man, it is such a relief watching these comments after the game is already over. I’m sitting here rewatching the replay on ESPN, just soaking it all in because I don't have to be stressed out like I was a few hours ago. Calling Federer our national team leader? Please—that's like calling a stomach ulcer a delicacy. If Buntić keeps up this kind of playmaking, maybe he'll earn that title.

I'm still processing everything, but I have to say—Lino really shut them down with that 5-1 formation, stopping them right at the line where they were scoring most of their goals earlier. It was also a huge win that their resident thug got a red card after that first punch to the head; otherwise, they would've absolutely leveled poor Biaženko (he's basically Lacković in a different jersey) by the end of the match. Honestly, IMO, they should've seen at least two more reds—especially after that double-fisted strike following the shot.

I was expecting more action out on the wings—specifically from Caleb—but aside from a few early plays, I barely saw him. And Šprem, who came on for him, was completely invisible. On a side note, what is going on with Caleb's beard? I didn't notice that bandage on his chin before.

I'm actually worried about Balić; he was breathing like he'd just run a marathon in the final minutes. It's obvious he's playing through an injury, though hopefully it's nothing major. Things might get a lot smoother once Metla gets back into the lineup.

I've got some gripes with Lino, though—he's leaning way too hard on Šola. Why not switch goalies during the penalty shootout if he doesn't trust Blažičko for the full game? Usually, teams do that just for the psychological edge, and I don't get why we don't do it when Šola clearly struggles with penalties.

That's all from me for now. I'm off to enjoy the rest of the game without the anxiety...

Come on, you've got it easy—but only because I know there's no need to rush when it comes to creativity, and I've got all the time in the world 😬

Melissa Moore32 said:I just walked through my front door after hitting the theater, and I honestly can't stop grinning—The Incredibles was just that good. 👍

There aren't even enough words in the dictionary to describe how great this movie was... actually, there are, I just haven't learned them all yet. 😁 (™ Monkey Island 😉 ).

Anyway, I'm going to go sit down and reflect 😂 on the film—and maybe try to wake up my legs after those cramped seats at Sinister Cinema... I'll post a short essay tomorrow explaining why this is easily the best thing I've seen all year, and also why I absolutely loathe Sinister.

can't wait - I love your movie essays—you never just talk about the film itself, you always weave in a million little details about the theater, the drive there, everything...

It’s already tomorrow if you hadn't noticed 😠

There’s just something about Trifon Ivanov 🙏

I mean, he’s easily my least favorite looking guy—not even because his hair is bad, though...

It was scheduled for 7:30 PM yesterday, but looks like they changed things up. I just wish they’d at least provide versions with subtitles 🙂
.
I don't want us to end up like the Italians—clueless about what Sylvester Stallone or Woody Allen actually sound like because they're forced to listen to some local hack productions.

And don't even get me started on how Arnold Schwarzenegger sounds...

Have some heart—just give us the original version without the dubbing 🙂

I just posted on that thread about what the absolute worst thing is. I might just change my avatar to a blind man 😵

I seriously need to get my eyes checked. If I hadn't gone to the optometrist, I would've just blamed it on being lazy—but now... 🙄 😢

Moderators, please merge these threads, I'm truly sorry...

The Incredibles

I was pretty sure a thread for this already existed, but since I couldn't find it on the first three pages—maybe it vanished just like what happened with Return of the King?

I was actually really looking forward to this one; the concept is great and the trailers definitely got me hyped... But then my fear actually came true—the trailers showed way too much.

I’ll try my best not to spoil everything, but I have to lay out a bit of the plot.

The story follows the Parr family—basically Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl. Back when they first got married, superheroes were highly respected; they could fly freely, save the world, bust criminals... All the trouble starts when the people they rescue begin suing the superheroes—you know, like a guy who didn't want to be saved and stuff like that. Eventually, the government mandates that heroes hang up their suits and blend in with "ordinary" citizens.

Fast forward 15 years, and we meet the Parrs again. Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl (that's Bob and Helen Parr) are struggling to live a normal life, which isn't easy given their powers—and those of their kids: Violet, Dash, and little Jack Jack. Bob is stuck in a desk job he absolutely hates. Then, one day, an offer comes along to return to his old way of life, and it's something he just can't turn down...

Like I mentioned, the core idea is fantastic—a family with superpowers trying to function like a regular household, even though they're clearly failing at it. The main characters feel a bit formulaic, and the kids are handled somewhat superficially. As for the plot, it's fairly predictable, most of which was telegraphed early on. The pacing is also a bit all over the place—it jumps from these slow, drawn-out sequences to ultra-fast action bursts. I assume that's a directorial choice meant to highlight the contrast between the thrill of being a hero and the monotony of everyday life. Still, it didn't quite click for me.
My other gripe is the villain; he's unconvincing, a lightweight version of your typical superhero antagonist. I am glad they didn't go overboard with the "evil laugh" trope, because that would have been too much. His motivation feels totally thin and shallow, even though the beginning of his character arc showed some promise.

What really saves the movie, though, are two cameos: Edna Mode and that little kid on the tricycle.
Edna Mode is hands down the best character in any superhero movie! Her attitude, her voice, her whole vibe... it's just perfect. I was laughing my head off during her scenes; it's honestly a shame she doesn't have more screen time.
That little kid on the tricycle somehow charmed me too—I can't even put my finger on why—but there's just something about his look and his voice that is gold. Once again, I found myself being "that guy" in the theater because everyone kept glancing at me while I was dying of laughter.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good movie and worth a watch. It's not going to change the animation industry forever or reinvent the wheel, but it's a solid pick if you're bored on a Friday night and just want some casual entertainment. I'll probably catch it again once it hits streaming, but my advice to you is: don't overthink it, grab some popcorn, and just enjoy the ride...

Angela Kern69 said:I recently hit up a local cinema in Europe after ages. The ticket prices were basically the same as at Regal Cinemas ($9.75), plus those standard 15 minutes of ads and trailers, the same popcorn smell, and—to be honest—the seats were actually pretty uncomfortable. I’ve always had an aversion to Regal Cinemas, but honestly, it doesn't seem much better anywhere else.

Well, those old-school theaters were actually the first ones to start doing those mid-movie intermissions 🙄

As for the seating—personally, I find the headrests at Broadway way more comfortable. But then again, anyone who has sat in the Split film archive knows how to appreciate a chair that doesn't make your backside fall off after ten minutes.
Chicago Bulls fans said:Wait, there’s an indoor theater too? 😲 😁

Well, what did you expect—that people don't show up to the movies during the winter? Besides, there isn't a single video rental shop on the island (if I recall correctly). The seats are just old classroom chairs, the whole thing is tucked away in a former US Army barracks, and most folks just huddle around a space heater sitting somewhere in the middle of the "hall."

But man, that cinema name is just terrible... HRID!
ironfalcon27 said:Wait, is it actually like that in every theater? Which one did you go to?

Chicago Blackhawks fans said:😂 Also... even if you aren't sure which movie is playing until later tonight, it doesn't really matter...

You just have to know who to ask—plus, the poster should be up by morning at the corner where I used to work.

I've heard watching a movie in the wintertime at the Appalachia cinema is quite the experience. 🤣
Simone said:You’re pretty young—back in my day, we used to watch movie newsreels before the feature started... basically the precursor to today's nightly news broadcasts. 😉

Anyway, big capital learned how to stay organized a long time ago; the consumer sheep out there just haven't caught up yet—that's how it works.

Mind you, I was at the cinema in Appalachia this summer and they didn't have any commercials or trailers at all.

I honestly think our studios should just dub Felix the Cat and have elementary school teachers take kids to see it—it’s a cartoon, after all, so it’s clearly meant for them. 🙄
