Exactly! 👍
Japanese culture—and especially Japanese cinema—is totally overrated...
As for this movie specifically, it’s complete garbage. I mean, give them credit for the atmosphere, but the plot is full of holes. Plus, it was just boring. I have zero interest in watching the original...
It was the same story with the Japanese version of Krug; I could barely make it to the end because of how much trash they try to pass off as content. There's no way I'm sitting through an American remake either...
If you take a closer look, this movie isn't actually all that special. Before the big twist reveals who the killer (or killers, in this case) really is, it feels pretty indistinguishable from any other low-budget horror flick. You get the usual formula: an opening kill, some introductions to the main cast, another murder, a bit of forced romance, more killing, and then pure panic...
The only thing that saves it is the ending—specifically the originality of having two killers instead of just one, which is what the audience spends the whole time assuming. I think that single subversion is the only reason it actually connected with people at the box office...
Ethan Perez97 said:Wait, are you drunk or just confused? Seriously, Terminator is way better than Aliens—which is easily the best one in that franchise after part 4—and don't even get me started on Titanic. Even True Lies isn't as good as Terminator.👎
Saying the first Terminator is better than True Lies or Aliens is like saying Ed Wood is a better director than John Huston...

There aren't really any "successes" to list, but there aren't any failures either... just because he hasn't released a movie doesn't mean he's failed...
The thing is, Cameron hasn't actually made a BAD movie yet (well, maybe if you count Piranha 2: Back to the Killing Lagoon)...
Brenda Williams13 said:Is nobody going to mention James Cameron?!?! After Alien, Terminator, and Abyss, pivoting to Titanic and some mediocre TV shows?!?!? In my humble opinion, he completely missed the mark.
I just remembered another one: Roland Joffe. The guy delivers hits like The Killing Fields and The Mission, but then falls off with City of Joy and Vatel in the nineties, followed by that total disaster, The Scarlet Letter (starring Demi Moore)... Honestly, I feel for him. Those first two films were truly, genuinely excellent, and he really seemed like a director with massive potential...
Fisher said:Since I haven't read the original comic, I can't say how much they changed things for the screen, but honestly, the movie isn't actually that bad, and the special effects aren't terrible either...
Look, given that this is being marketed as a massive summer blockbuster packed with spectacle, and considering the huge budget poured into both the production and the VFX—it’s actually full of BAD special effects. You can tell in some scenes that they were clearly computer-generated. Actually, most of them are...
I’m calling it now: another Oscar nomination for Depp...
Honestly, they owe him one after being overlooked so many times before, especially given those incredible performances in Edward Škaroruk and Ed Wood... 😉
As for the movie itself—it's a bummer they pushed the release back to September, but whatever... I suspect they did it because the summer season isn't exactly great here, and maybe because the subtitling and editing for the American market isn't quite finished yet...
