Compliment" ignore-lists in signatures in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Morgan Brown4 said:I’ve been thinking lately about how some users include a list of people they've blocked right there in their signatures, and I can't help but wonder—what's actually the goal there? 😕

Now, just to be clear, I’m definitely not suggesting we should start banning those kinds of signatures, and I suppose some might argue I shouldn't even be complaining since nobody (at least from what I can see) has gone out of their way to put me on their list—so maybe this isn't even really a topic for this specific thread, given it doesn't touch on the actual rules or moderation policies. But honestly, it just feels a bit tacky and unnecessary to me; I truly don't see any real reason for someone to flaunt a list of people they're ignoring in their signature, and I feel like it's actually quite rude and impolite to broadcast that publicly, when it seems like something that should probably just stay to oneself...
So, well, if anyone who keeps an ignore list in their signature happens to read this—why do you do it? What is the point? Has it never occurred to you that it might make you look a little silly?

I guess it's probably so the people being ignored know where they stand so they don't waste their time trying to reply. 🤔

I’ve never really viewed it as bragging, more like just providing a bit of helpful information.

I honestly haven't a clue—I’m really not tech-savvy when it comes to this stuff, so I don't even know what all those open-source programs actually mean.🤷

I started uninstalling Norton—and then this popped up:

I can't see the image you're trying to share—it looks like the link might be broken or the file didn't upload correctly. If you could try posting it again, I'd be happy to take a look!

I’ve been seeing this specific warning pop up on my screen lately—it’s honestly such a headache. I was sitting here trying to get some work done when it just flashed right in my face! It feels like these alerts are getting more aggressive by the day. Has anyone else dealt with this particular glitch?

I’m starting to feel like the folks over at Norton might be out to get me—honestly, I just hope I haven't actually picked up some nasty malware.

If I were you, I would just go ahead and uninstall it. But maybe, before you start the uninstallation process for Norton, you might want to disable everything within its own control panel first, and then perhaps try to kill off any active services and processes. Once you've finished the uninstallation, just restart your computer and make sure to turn on Windows Defender.

I've always felt that these antivirus programs tend to make up all sorts of nonsense just to prevent you from uninstalling them, and they really do seem to make things as complicated as possible.

As for McAfee, you probably ended up getting that bundled along with some other software; maybe just be a little more careful when you're installing new programs and look for those little checkboxes where you can opt out of installing McAfee.

In my opinion, McAfee is actually worse than a virus! You should probably do the same thing with it—turn everything off, kill those processes and services, and then finally uninstall it.

And regarding uTorrent, if you click down on the status bar where it shows your download and upload speeds, you can just limit both the download and the upload to about half of your total speed, so that if someone else jumps on the connection, you can still browse the web normally.
And honestly, I think it would be just as wise to get rid of McAfee too,

Plus, maybe we should look into killing off or at least putting some serious limits on uTorrent, because things can get incredibly frustrating when your whole system starts freezing up just because someone decided to piggyback off your connection to download torrents.

There is Data Recovery available, but everything comes with a price tag. I managed to find some history on there, but even if I were to pay, it looks like an older version, and I'm not even quite sure how they handle payments.

Oh, come on now! It’s not the end of the world, I promise. I'm sure you'll stumble upon plenty of other adult content that you'll enjoy just as much.

Thanks,

I mean, if you don't mind me asking, what kind of specs are we actually looking at here? I guess it might not be all that surprising that your computer is running as slow as molasses in January!

I guess you might still be running Windows 10 on that machine, which means you’re probably dealing with those constant background updates, all those nagging antivirus definition refreshes, and that endless stream of telemetry data being sent out into the void!

I guess you might just want to give him a little bit of breathing room for a moment, because he could be busy scanning files, running some updates, or maybe even performing a quick defragmentation in the background!

In American English, that would be something like

control panel - simplified access - display, and then you can just tweak the sizes 👍

fadedbear92 said:Thanks so much, I actually knew that already, but I was just wondering where specifically in the settings you could find that bit🤔

If you head over to Settings, then Ease of Access, and look under Display, you should see the option for font size right there.

I suppose if you really want to go deep and change the actual font itself, you might have to dive into the Windows Registry editor, though that feels a bit intense!

Jerry Robinson56 said:I suppose you’d just need some high-end professional software at that point, unfortunately. These kinds of tools can usually scan through an entire terabyte drive to find every single filename and extension in just a few minutes, so you could just pick whatever you're looking for.

Honestly, I don't think even the most advanced professional tool would be able to help him out here. I mean, if you want to locate specific files within a certain folder, you first have to actually find that folder itself! And to pinpoint that exact location, you'd essentially have to sift through every other directory on the system, because no matter how sophisticated a program might be, it can't really access a folder unless it already knows exactly where it's hiding.😉

Not one single one of those clones you mentioned—assuming they even exist—would ever claim that heliocentrism isn't an accurate description of reality. But I’m saying it, and I could probably prove it, just like I could argue that humans never actually set foot on the Moon. However, since you all seem way more interested in my feet than my arguments, you aren't going to see that evidence. Actually, the real reason you won't see it isn't because you lack interest, but rather because I simply refuse to throw pearls before swine. It's not that I'm being stingy or unwilling to share these insights, it's just that there's absolutely no point in trying to explain things to people who aren't looking for the truth. Swine only care about the mud and trampling over one another.

It seems you're quite well-acquainted with the entire body of work from these supposed clones, 😬

If I had any doubts at all before, I certainly don't anymore. The whole thing is totally backwards. 😁

Even if the discussion regarding the Moon has shifted, that specific style of subtle undermining wrapped in such pathetic, over-the-top epic prose is incredibly recognizable and truly one-of-a-kind. 🤣

rapidhound2 said:I honestly can't decide what's more depressing—the fact that about 11% of people here think the Earth is flat, or that 77% actually believe we never went to the Moon.

I suppose I’d have to say the latter is even more heartbreaking. But then again, I guess we shouldn't be surprised, considering we live in a world filled with Goebbels-style misinformation and the short attention spans of the masses. It seems like it's always been this way, hasn't it? What you just wrote, though, feels like a really harsh insult and some rather sexist behavior from someone being quite aggressive. I'm almost expecting to see a red flag because I spoke up, rather than anyone noticing that you were the one being insulting toward me in the first place. So, since I've said it so many times before, I'll just say it again: I feel a bit embarrassed to even call myself part of the human race. That’s a sentiment, I think, that one researcher investigating the sinking of the Titanic once expressed.

Then there was another expert, perhaps the greatest magician among scientists, who famously remarked: Human stupidity and the universe are both infinite—though, to be fair, we aren't entirely certain about the universe yet.

Whether people are foolish because they are trash, or if they are trash because they are foolish, is probably something that still needs a bit of research.

In my view, thinking that those who claim the Moon landing was fake are just ignorant, dim-witted, and uneducated is a stance that has absolutely nothing to do with gender; it applies equally to men and women alike.

rapidhound2 said:Oh, you sweet thing, you’re being awfully modest! We didn't exactly feast on salt, but we did manage to grab some sweets and a savory pizza, so I suppose that should be plenty for you—if you want more details, feel free to check your inbox. And honestly, wishing for someone to be kicked out of a philosophy discussion within a thread about kicking people out of quantum physics is just... well, it's truly pathetic. It’s actually quite sad. I really wanted to say something here regarding how my thread was locked without even a single explanation as to how my appeal was handled. If my appeal wasn't actually addressed at all, aside from handing out red cards to me and that one guy who started defending Jerry Robinson56 like he was his own mother, then it probably just means the moderator handling the case feels her own reputation wouldn't be compromised if some other Jerry Robinson56—or even this very same one—wrote the exact same things to her that he wrote to me. And he wrote

A lot of us have been here for years while you've only just arrived... which basically means we've seen so much nonsense that you aren't even interesting. I mean, the brain, the legs are a different story.

So, hypothetically speaking, our moderator's brain isn't interesting to a hypothetical Jerry Robinson56, but her legs are.

But really, what is so wrong with a primitive guy on a forum finding someone's legs more interesting than their head (their arguments and debates)? Is Jerry Robinson56 planning to do something else with the moderator and her legs outside of the forum instead of dealing with her intellect and arguments here?

Locking a thread without offering any clarity on the resolution of my appeal suggests that the aforementioned hypothetical situation wouldn't bother the moderator one bit. Kudos to her for being immune to sexist savagery! However, even if she might be immune to sexism, I certainly am not. Thanks for disregarding the Geneva Convention!

By the way, calling it "sexism" is a major understatement for Jerry Robinson56's primitive insults toward a female forum member.

The way Jerry Robinson56 phrased that heavy insult could almost be interpreted in the plural. Not only is he personally interested in my legs while completely ignoring my mind, but he seems to suggest that his buddies—who defend him like they love him more than themselves (or more than he loves himself)—feel the exact same way. His posts in that adjacent, locked thread prove it. It’s like male camaraderie has conspired against female dignity, and the moderator just locks the thread and tosses the key into the ocean. Have a wonderful day, dear ladies.

To be perfectly honest, those people claiming the moon landing was a fake are likely using their brains just for decoration anyway, so asking whether it's a matter of heads or legs is a false dichotomy. In my experience, with those kinds of people, even their legs aren't particularly impressive, no matter how good they might be. Furthermore, since their heads are merely ornamental and their legs are just for walking, expressing interest in a head would actually be considered sexist.

btw Harame, Ernest, Granny, which one of you clones is this?
It honestly looks like these two are bickering as if they’ve each racked up 50,000 posts together, when in reality, they’ve barely even hit fifty. I suspect they might just be clones of someone who already got permabanned, or maybe—just maybe—it’s actually one person arguing with themselves using two different accounts. Either way, we certainly shouldn't let that old fossil get any more satisfaction out of this.

How to delete specific PDF pages? in IT Support ·
Morgan Ortiz6 said:I downloaded some instructions for my mini laptop in PDF format, and I’m really hoping to print them out.
It’s about 60 pages total, but there are roughly 20 pages in there that I just don't need, and I haven't quite figured out how to strip them out.
I’ve already given a few programs a shot—like Adobe Acrobat Pro and Adobe Acrobat—but for some reason, nothing seems to be working for me.
Does anyone happen to have a recommendation for a different program that might work?
Here is this link to the PDF file if anyone feels like taking a crack at fixing it for me.

Hey there, maybe you could just print the whole thing and then use a black marker to cross out the parts you don't want. 👍

Well, if that's the case, maybe you could just post the image then? 😁

Does it happen to list the filename inside the parentheses?

Also, is there anything sitting in C:\Windows\minidump

if there is, perhaps you could upload that somewhere too.

Maybe try heading into the registry and going to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ system \ CurrentControlSet \ Control

where you can create a DWORD called DisplayParameters and set it to 1.

That should hopefully allow Windows to show the actual dark blue BSOD instead of that light blue Windows 10 smiley face screen.

Tyler Parker4 said:Even following the advice provided by Tyler Parker4 proved fruitless. I am being met with a rotating door of Blue Screens of Death; one moment it is "Critical Process Died," the next it is "Kernel Data Inpage Error," followed by "APC Index Mismatch" or "System Service Exception." Every time I run the System File Checker, it reports corrupted files within the CBS Log Files. I have even attempted to manually delete those text files, yet they reappear immediately upon the next scan. Is there any permanent solution? I am truly at a loss.

I guess you're sort of digging around in the OS without quite knowing the full impact of what you're doing, which might have turned a small hiccup into a much bigger headache.

The files you deleted weren't actually the corrupted ones themselves; they were just the lists documenting the corruption. So, deleting them doesn't fix the issue. The actual cause of your Blue Screens is whatever specific files are being flagged within that log.

Even if you managed to restore all the corrupted system files, I suppose the real question is why they got corrupted in the first place, and there's really no guarantee that the problem won't just happen all over again. Ideally, you'd probably want to just reinstall Windows, but even that might not solve it if we're looking at a physical hardware failure in your RAM or your hard drive—which is what that "kernel data inpage error" seems to suggest.

Here are some possible culprits; since you also saw a specific code alongside that kernel inpage error, you might be able to figure out exactly what's failing based on that number:

0x0000007A: File access errors
0xC000009C: Bad hard drive sectors
0xC000009D: Loose cables or hard disk failure
0xC000016A: Bad hard drive sectors
0xC0000185: Unseated or damaged cables
