Reinstalling Windows in IT Support ·
Drew Allen77 said:I'd say just wipe all the partitions, leave only one single partition on the drive, and then go ahead with the installation there.

I don't think that's quite the brightest idea, to be honest. It’s very likely that there's a dedicated service partition tucked away in there containing all those essential recovery tools, things like memtests and similar utilities, plus drivers and maybe even an image of the installed OS. I guess it might be a bit of a shame to mess with that if you don't have to. 👍

How do I download just the audio from a video? in IT Support ·
swiftowl7 said:Is that really such a huge deal for you to record like that???

I mean, you’re basically just grabbing an .mp4 container and renaming it to .mp3... I guess there isn't much else to say about that, since you can pretty much order whatever you want from a custom shop if you have the choice.

If that’s already turning into such a massive headache for you, maybe you could just download the .mp4 file instead and then find some software to export the audio, like Adobe Audition, for example.

It looks like this might be some kind of HTML5 video, which is somewhat similar to Matroska. The audio would probably be Ogg Vorbis.

Both series are honestly kind of trash, but I guess the Avengers are at least fun to watch 👍
Power supply fan is buzzing in Desktops ·
fadedsailor17 said:Honestly, I haven't a clue, and since I won't have the chance to tear apart my PC case today or tomorrow, I was thinking maybe I could check if it's still under warranty just to make things a bit easier. Once I actually find some free time this week, I'll dig through everything, figure out which model I have, and then get back to you.

And well, I really don't want to go out and buy a whole new power supply right now, because it seems like the fan blades are just worn down; I saw a video on YouTube suggesting it isn't actually that difficult to swap them out, so I was wondering if anyone here has ever tried it? If so, I'd love any advice you might have, and most importantly, could someone tell me how and where I can track down the right fan? I spotted some on Amazon that look pretty much identical, but the description says they are specifically for fan housings. You know, I'm just a little unsure if it's a good idea to take the old one with me to a local shop like Best Buy to find an exact match—like, is that actually how it works?
Anyway, thanks so much for all the help, guys! 👍
And have a very happy and blessed Christmas! 😉

I've actually replaced the fan in my power supply a couple of times myself. You basically just unscrew it, open the unit up, pop the old fan out, head down to the hardware store, show them what you need, grab the new one, put it all back together, screw everything tight, and reinstall it. It really shouldn't take more than about ten minutes in total.

Just one thing to watch out for: when you're installing that new fan, make sure it's oriented exactly the same way the old one was, so it's actually pulling air out instead of blowing it in. Usually, there's a little arrow on the fan hub that shows you which direction the airflow is supposed to go.

Also, please be careful not to cut yourself while you're tinkering with it; for some reason, the metal finish on power supply casings is always absolutely terrible, regardless of how expensive or high-quality the unit is, so it's surprisingly easy to get a nasty scratch if you aren't being super careful.
Isn't the Latin alphabet considered an official script in Mexico, just as much as Cyrillic is?

In the US, nobody is stopping Americans from using whatever script they prefer for their own private business. From the names of local community centers down to the signage at a neighborhood pub, they can certainly use Cyrillic if they want to.

However, I suppose it wouldn't be quite right for Cyrillic to be used in all official state institutions, or even within regional government offices. Perhaps it could be implemented at a very local level, specifically in places where the Latin alphabet might actually pose a barrier to those who struggle to read it.

Bilingualism isn't some inherent, God-given right; rather, I’d say it’s more of a privilege, and if we are being honest, that minority in Pittsburgh hasn't really earned that particular privilege.

To me, this whole situation feels like a standard provocation, following a pattern that I think we have all seen a million times before.

The whole thing with the posters seems both foolish and provocative, and honestly, it's probably illegal too, since you can't just run advertisements for someone else without getting their permission first.
Windows 10 won't boot in IT Support ·
You might want to look through your BIOS settings for a Fast Boot option—maybe try toggling that on or off to see if it makes a difference.

If you head over to the Windows Control Panel, you can adjust your power settings; I’d suggest switching to the High Performance profile. There's actually a Fast Startup setting in there too, so it might be worth experimenting with that as well.

It really is probably best to manually install the chipset drivers for your motherboard, even though Windows usually tries to handle those automatically.

And honestly, make sure you grab the official network drivers too.

I’d also recommend disconnecting any mapped network drives during the boot process and unplugging unnecessary USB devices, just because those can sometimes cause all sorts of headaches.

Once everything finally gets up and running, it would be a good idea to check your disk transfer speeds, both for reading from and writing to the drive.

Maybe take a peek at the Event Viewer to see if there are any error alerts popping up?

There's also some performance monitoring stuff located within the Administrative Tools; you could check that out to see if it throws any specific warnings.

It might help to enable boot logging as well.

You should definitely check out this link:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...d-4216385c7ff3

Perhaps you could download the Performance Recorder and run a full log of everything happening on the system.

🤔

I guess I'm running out of ideas at this point, haha! 😁

I don't quite have the time to sit down and write out a full step-by-step tutorial for you, but if you search online, I'm sure you'll find plenty of helpful guides.

vividbison47 said:I didn't touch a single thing in the BIOS. Honestly, the guys at Best Buy just built the rig for me, then I got home, installed Windows, and called it a day.

But honestly, who really knows exactly how they configured everything in there? 🤔

Maybe you should double-check your BIOS settings just to be safe—specifically, see if it's set to UEFI and if your drive is running in AHCI mode.

It might also be worth looking into your power states; I'd suggest turning off any power-saving features to see if that helps.

If nothing seems to work, you could try enabling the option to generate a boot log in Windows, because who knows, maybe you'll find a clue buried in those logs.

MP3-CE isn't playing tracks in order in IT Support ·
restlessdrifter12 said:Exactly—the car player just plays everything based on whatever order is listed in the track number tag.
That’s precisely why I’m asking if someone could walk me through how to actually set that sequence within the Tag itself.
To be clear, I already have "Mp3tag", "Tag & Rename", and "Total Commander" installed on my system.
Is it actually possible to get this sorted using any of those specific programs?

Well, you certainly could do it with all three of those, though I honestly don't think you even need to bother with them at all.

If you're running Windows, you can just right-click the file, head over to properties, then click on details, and there's your track number right next to the '#' sign. You just change it, hit apply, and you're good to go.

It's a total piece of cake. 👍

I mean, if there's a 1, 2, or 3 at the front, does it just go randomly, or maybe 2, 3, 1, or something else entirely? 😬

It seems pretty obvious that the software is pulling the playback order straight from the Track number Tag, so I guess it really doesn't matter how you decide to name your files 👍

Well, I suppose if the 1-2-3 approach isn't working, there’s probably no reason to think the a-b-c method would be any different, right? 🤔

Maybe they should just go ahead and manually edit the track number tag.
Unmapped roads in Real Estate ·
Roger Hill3 said:Look, I’m not arguing about the 20+ acres. That road was physically there, no question. But they really should have sent out a formal notice regarding the changes to the County Assessor's Office records. It would have saved everyone from these extra headaches and fees. The courts don't care about what's actually happening on the ground or any adjustments to the official maps. It's just a cycle: new parcel, new legal process, more money down the drain.
Who else spends their life glued to the news or constantly checking those local community bulletin boards? There’s honestly no way to stay in the loop on this stuff unless it’s already been officially filed or you happen to overhear some neighbor gossiping about it.

Maybe you could try getting a certification from the County Assessor's Office to prove that the parcel number mentioned in the court ruling matches up with the new numbers and sub-numbers in the current plat. I guess I'm not entirely sure if that's still an option these days, but it might be worth a shot.
Unmapped roads in Real Estate ·
Roger Hill3 said:So, the local municipality decided to map out some unclassified roads into the County Assessor's Office records, which basically meant slicing up my existing parcels. One plot became two. Everything looks fine on the deed now, I guess. But here's the kicker: the town never bothered to send me a single notice about this whole process. Since I was already mid-way through a legal battle to clean up my property titles, I ended up registering only half the land under the old parcel number. Then I had to start the whole damn process over again for the second part because it had a different number. Just more money down the drain. To top it off, my total acreage dropped by about 1,000 square feet. Look, I get it—the road has been there for over 40 years, and the records accurately reflect that reality. But they never issued an eminent domain order, and I certainly never saw any compensation check. If they’d actually paid me, that would be reflected in the records too, wouldn't it? Was the municipality actually required to notify owners before doing this, and is there any actual ground to stand on if I want to sue for compensation for the land they took?

Well, there was probably a public notice published in the local paper listing all the affected parcels. As for compensation, I wouldn't hold my breath. Since the road has been there and in use for more than 20 years, it likely falls under adverse possession rules.

Printer recommendations (megathread) in Computer Peripherals ·
wearystag57 said:Hey there,
It seems like questions about printers don't really get much traction here, so I suppose it's just not a very popular topic, or maybe things change so fast that it's hard for anyone to stay caught up. Still, I figured I would give it a shot and ask for some recommendations since I honestly have zero experience with this kind of stuff.

Basically, I'm on the hunt for a color printer and scanner—something standard A4 size—that either offers affordable third-party ink cartridges or at least keeps the original ink prices somewhat reasonable (maybe around $200-$100). I'm not too set on a specific budget for the machine itself.
I don't need anything top-of-the-line, just something that works "well enough." Ideally, the scans should be clear and the prints should look decent, sort of like a typical magazine, a basic poster, or even product packaging you'd see on a shelf at Target. This is just for personal use, like printing out drawings and similar projects, nothing intended for professional sale.

Does anyone happen to have a good brand they'd recommend, or perhaps some advice on how I can find a reliable one?

Should it be an all-in-one combo unit, or would two separate devices be better? And if we're talking about a combo, what else are you looking for—like networking, Wi-Fi, or whatever else might be necessary?
Benjamin Taylor6 said:Your parents could always just deed you a portion of the house. For example, they could give you a third of the property if you were the one who paid for the extra floor, effectively making it three units (the ground floor plus two levels). You can sit down with them and sign whatever specific interest they want to gift to you.
You’d be able to register yourself as owning, say, 1/3, though it wouldn't be officially subdivided into separate legal parcels yet.
My wife actually did something similar back before we started renovating her parents' old house.
Doing that ensures you aren't left high and dry if something happens to your parents.

Once you've secured your stake, there's no massive rush with the permits, the architectural plans, or the formal subdivision... and so on.
But you have to realize—until that subdivision is finalized, getting a loan for your specific portion is going to be nearly impossible.
Technically, you could try applying for a loan if you own a third, but you'd likely have to do it jointly with whoever owns the remaining 2/3.

Basically, you would be recorded as an owner of everything—both the land and the structure sitting on it—in an ideal one-third proportion. In that scenario, the gift deed would likely need to be drafted quite clearly to state that they are gifting you a third of the entire property. 🤔

Well, absolutely, there are. I mean, there are plenty of folks out there who genuinely believe the Earth is flat, but I guess that doesn't make it true, does it?

There are also people who might argue that women are just as dim-witted as chickens—but, well, that certainly doesn't mean they're right, I suppose. 🤷
