Hookups and Dating Among Gen Z in Movies ·
steelfox9 said:Honestly, I can't help but feel the movie could’ve been way better if they actually knew
what they were doing with it. It feels like everyone missed the mark here—from the cast and the writers to the director...

I don't really see the actors failing us, though the dialogue is just incredibly stupid at times.
I think the scene where the guy asks the girl and her boyfriend to hook up right in front of him was slightly better than the rest..

The director and the writers just didn't seem to have a clear vision, and the end result is this nonsensical movie that feels like it drags on forever...👎

I was checking out Fragil, but honestly, that one just didn't hit the mark for me..🤷

This one is way better though, and I’d definitely recommend giving it a shot 👍

redowl90 said:I don't know. For me, that one terrible scene where they walk into the alleyway was enough. He asks, "If I asked you to eat dirt, would you do it for me?" and the other guy replies, "Of course I would. But would you ever really ask me that?"

When will people realize that kids DON'T actually talk like that? Honestly, that happens only five minutes into the movie and I already found myself smirking, and there are at least five or six more moments just like it before the credits roll.

To be fair, the scene where he returns to Afghanistan after all those years and gives that guy the book he dedicated to him was beautiful. That part gave me chills. But most of the other scenes meant to pull at my heartstrings left me feeling nothing because they were just such clichés.

I couldn't agree more.

Mark Barrett3 said:What, are we seriously incapable of just heading over to Rotten Tomatoes and checking out a spoiler-free review? Instead, because we all watched some movie and want to have a decent discussion about it, we’re expected to hunt through posts written in white font just to avoid this group of absolute whiners who complain about spoilers during a debate? We aren't here to write academic critiques or spend half our lives overthinking whether a single detail counts as a spoiler—especially since people should realize these threads are entered at their own risk. If you stumble onto a plot point, that's on you.

Honestly, you guys are acting like spoiled brats. Every single one of you. It’s unbelievable.

I couldn't agree more. Honestly, nobody can even agree on what counts as a spoiler anyway.
And I really don't feel like dealing with the hassle of reading or writing everything in white text. 😕

Charles Cox60 said:Wait, isn't Al Pacino actually the killer? At the end of the movie, when he’s shaving in his armchair, he leaves behind that leather hat and those glasses that the killer was wearing, and then his girlfriend ends up dressing up in them.

Charles Cox60, did you miss the part where half the city wears clothes just like that? It really makes it possible for the killer to be anyone—even Al Pacino himself!
I don't think this is the first time a killer has finished their business in a park, but it's definitely not the guy who gets blamed at the end.
By the way, I actually have the uncut version which runs about 15 minutes longer, though I don't see anything particularly groundbreaking in those extra scenes...😕

Charles Smith4 said:It’s not exactly cited as one of the absolute peaks of Pacino's career, but I'm still pretty shocked that the movie actually snagged three Golden Raspberry nominations (for worst director, screenplay, and cinematography).

I honestly can't decide which was worse—Pacino's acting, the screenplay, the direction, or the camera work 🙏

Who even are these Golden Raspberry losers??! 😂 😂 😂
Cruising (1980) in Movies ·
Even though I’m a fan of Fassbinder, Querelle just doesn't hold a candle to Cruising.
It isn't even about the subject matter; we're talking about one of the greatest films ever made 🙏
Joshua Jones97 is right: the movie is definitely misanthropic.
Personally, I felt the beginning dragged a little bit, but things really start looking up toward the end.
Another thing is that the arrested killer clearly isn't actually the murderer...
The whole plot is full of holes and logical inconsistencies...
The premise follows a hand floating down a river, searching for a killer who massacres his victims. Yet, during the entire film, not a single victim is actually massacred or tossed into the river...
It truly remains one of the most controversial films out there...

I’m definitely on board with that. I absolutely loved the movie!

Boys from Brazil in Movies ·
casualotter21 said:I watched this movie ages ago back when I was living in Canada. Later on, I actually picked up the novel by Ira Levin that the film was based on. I'm assuming most of you guys already know that Ira Levin also wrote "Rosemary's Baby," right?

He also penned A Kiss Before Dying, which honestly stands out as one of the best thrillers ever written and makes for a top-tier screenplay... though it's such a shame they didn't get Polanski as director. It ended up having two pretty weak adaptations: the 1956 version starring Robert Wagner and the 1991 one with Matt Dillon (which I think is the weaker of the two). 🙄

And Boys from Brazil? I'll admit I'm a total sick person because I couldn't stop laughing like a maniac: she's there screaming, "Doctor, doctor!" and then Mengele just looks at her like he's about to crush her underfoot and says, "You stupid cow, I am the doctor." 😍 😍 😍
Andrei Tarkovsky's version of Stalker.
(Picnic at the End of the Road by Boris Strugatsky). 🙏 🙏 🙏

Honestly, both the book and the movie are just fantastic. Though, if you ask me, the book is where the real horror lies.
Jason Chavez32 said:Check this out:

Part of the movie was filmed at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Is it possible—just maybe—that they "rented out" a student's dorm room for the shoot, and that whoever lived there just happened to be one of our folks from back home? 🤔

According to their own records, it looks like that university actually has a certain percentage of students with American roots...

No "rented" room ever looks quite that authentic without a set designer stepping in to tweak things. There’s clearly a reason why that flag is positioned exactly where it is, and I'm sticking to my guns on this one. Horror movies always tend to lean on the simplest, most obvious solutions to get a reaction out of you...👍
No problem at all! 🙂
And if you’re looking for my two cents on the matter, here’s how I see it: look at that little statue of Shiva sitting right there in front of the flag. I honestly think the artist was trying to suggest that this tiny traveler was healing a broken heart while wandering the globe... picking up Shiva, an American flag, and who knows what else along the way. That’s really all there is to it.
There isn't any flag shown earlier. Carrie passes away and then we see her writing 'one year later.' It’s only then that the room and the flag finally come into view, after that whole year has passed.

There’s really no need to overthink this one. That heated (and final) kiss right in front of the American flag actually has absolutely nothing to do with the US. It’s pretty obvious the set designer was probably just vacationing in Florida or somewhere similar and thought an American flag would look cool as decor in a college dorm room. It looks nice, sure, but it’s huge, totally dominates the shot, and it's got a lot of people wondering if there's some deep symbolism behind it. There isn't.
Unless, of course, the director is trying to hint that Carrie is going to be resurrected in America for a second time, and that they'll be filming the third installment of 😍
right here on US soil.
