Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children in Movies ·
I’m just praying to God they don't hand this over to the same crew that handled the first FF movie—that was a total train wreck, especially with that over-the-top, pretentious soundtrack they kept shoving down our throats.

The absolute king of all cheesy one-liners—the GOAT of punny action movie dialogue—has to be from the end of *Dark Angel* (though if you look it up on IMDb, they list it under the title *Come in Peace*). It’s that moment where Dolph Lundgren is squaring off against some gnarly, hippie-style gangster alien. Honestly, the line has been beaten to death since then because everyone and their mother has ripped it off, but hey, that’s just how these classics work.

Alien: I come in peace.
Dolph: And you go in pieces...

🙂
When did rock 'n' roll die? in Music ·
Honestly? I couldn't care less about any of this.
Big Fish in Movies ·
Such a gorgeous flick, especially if you manage to shut up that inner cynic for a minute.
Blur in Music ·
So, yeah... there were maybe three or four decent things in there, but honestly? The rest was just totally mid. I ended up keeping those three gems and wiped everything else out. 🙂

Ethan Martinez11 said:Bottom line? It’s a vibe that just doesn't quit. Unlike, say, James Bond.

Now, don't get me wrong—Tomorrow Never Dies is easily the best Bond flick since the Roger Moore era.

But then again, A View to a Kill is 👍

[edit] Good grief, what am I even rambling about? Die Another Day. It just hit me—is there actually some kind of online generator for Bond movie titles? I think I'm gonna go hunt one down 🙂 [/edit]

[edit reloaded] Oh, absolutely 🙂
Fair point, that one isn't exactly winning any awards...
Though, honestly, on James Bond films, the title "The Man with the Golden Gun" is pretty damn solid 🙂 [/edit reloaded]
Wedding playlist ideas? in Music ·
Look, whoever you end up hiring, just make sure they play Guns N' Roses' "November Rain" at least once!
I mean, weddings without that track are basically a waste of money 🙂 🙂 🙂
Star Wars subforum? in Movies ·
Look, I know I’m gonna be the party pooper here, but I’m totally against it. I haven't seen many Star Wars threads popping up lately—at least not recently—and honestly? Opening an entire sub-forum just because it’s Star Wars seems like a massive waste of space. 🙂
Best albums of 2003? in Music ·
Man, seriously—if it wasn't for those few metalheads dragging everything down, we could easily just rename this whole thing "Best Indie Albums of 2003" :-/
So what? Look, I might be able to stomach piracy if we’re talking about some obscure vintage classics or niche foreign films that just aren't available on any legitimate streaming service because the market is too small—I get that. But everything else? It's straight-up robbery, plain and simple, and it needs to be dealt with just as harshly as software or music piracy. And it's not just because it's illegal—it's because, in the long run, it screws over everyone, including us, the actual consumers. I don't have a problem with swapping files with a buddy, but making a killing off mass sales or renting out stolen goods? Seriously, where are we living?

oh, now I remember 😢
Best albums of 2003? in Music ·
OutKast - Speakerboxxx / The Love Below
Basement Jaxx - Kish Kash
The Postal Service - Give Up
Saturday Looks Good To Me - All Your Summer Songs
Ephemera - Air
Petracovich - Blue Cotton Skin
Judah Johnson - Kisses and Interrogation
Sm & the Jicks - Pig Lib

just some stuff that's potentially awesome—I just need to sit still for a bit, plus honestly, I haven't really had the mental energy lately to sit through entire albums from start to finish

Geez, so nobody actually likes it? Look, mark my words—Gold is an absolute masterpiece, just freaking gorgeous. I wasn't exactly feeling Heartbreaker that much, and Demolition is honestly just a mediocre collection of demos (I mean, who’s even buying that? 🙂), and I haven't even touched the new stuff yet. Joshua Ross792, are these actually any good?

You’re an idiot. Go die.

And why are you even chiming in, you uneducated little conformist? Seriously, watch your step so Cole doesn't pull a fast one on you—since when did you become an expert on what he should be doing? I mean, come on, surely he knows better than you! Right?!

Finally got around to watching it. It’s been a really, really long time since I’ve seen a movie this good. And mind you—I don't mean "this good for an American film"—if the characters weren't speaking English, I wouldn't have even guessed it was shot in that absolute dumpster fire of a country where mistakes like "dead girl" movies are actually considered high art (can someone please explain what's supposed to be good about that one? Did I miss something?). But man, it isn't just good; it's gorgeous. Even the ending isn't some pathetic tear-jerker moment; the power outage actually serves a purpose. I didn't read it as some over-the-top, "oh woe is us, life is so hard and we fought so hard for nothing" melodrama, but rather as this slightly surreal, distancing way to pull the curtain shut. Of course, naturally, any display of actual ambition is going to be immediately dismissed by critics as being "pretentious." Total nonsense. To me, it felt like the moment where Spielberg is basically saying, "Good grief, what is wrong with you people? It's just a movie." My only real gripe is that scene with the addict—I would have cut it entirely or completely overhauled it because, as it stands... well, it's utter crap. Everything else made me a very happy camper 🙂

Look, my gut reaction was pretty much identical to Mickey's, but I managed to bite my tongue at the last second. 🙂
Look, no offense intended, but what you just typed up there? Honestly, that has to be one of the absolute dumbest things I’ve ever had the misfortune of reading on this entire forum. 😛
Man, now that you've broken it all down, I get where you're coming from—but honestly? I still can't get on board with that logic. Just because American cinema is, let’s be real, total garbage most of the time (an absolute SEWER! A TOTAL DUMPSTER FIRE!) doesn't mean an exception can't happen. It’s not like greatness is physically impossible just because the industry is a mess. I’m fully convinced that one day, a real outlier is gonna pop up and blow everyone away. And hey, I've been sitting here waiting for that one masterpiece for, what, fifteen years now? Still waiting. 🙂

northernseal6 said:Look, obviously there's garbage everywhere, and American hyper-production pumps out an unbelievable amount of trash—that's why I’m comparing Terminator to Scooby-Doo, not Terminator to The Godfather.

...which is just as stupid as trying to compare it to The Godfather. Terminator is a great movie, sure, but it’s in a completely different league from both Scooby-Doo and The Godfather. It's like comparing peaches to apples to a bratwurst.

...honestly, I think you’re just hard of hearing or something. How can you even spout such nonsense? Go actually watch the movie first.

We'll see, we'll see... I'm just dying to find out..

Honestly, I thought that dead girl movie was totally meh. Not like a total four-letter word kind of bad, but still—just completely underwhelming.
Anyone seen Darren Aronofsky's Pi (1998)? in Movies ·
Yeah, Clint Mansell—the guy actually composed the score for Requiem for a Dream too.
