Nancy Robinson50 said:Exactly. That’s the mindset. Every woman seems to think that if I’m putting in a grueling workout and lifting heavy, I should look like a bodybuilder after five months instead of just getting toned. πŸ™

The issue is that most people are simply stuck in an echo chamber, fed nothing but misinformation by others who are just as misguided as they are.

Maybe I didn't express myself very clearly. It isn't that I'm afraid of getting too bulky or packing on too much muscle... I definitely understand what bodybuilding actually entails. πŸ™‚
What really threw me off was seeing my brother drink the exact same protein supplement they offered me at my gym, except he's using it to gain weight.
He's incredibly skinny, so for him, it works perfectly for bulking up... My concern was that if I started taking it, I might end up working against my own fitness goals.

It seems like my best bet is to drive into the nearest major city and find a specialized nutrition shop where the staff can actually walk me through their inventory and advise me on which
product would be the right fit for me...

What does the label say on that supplement your brother is taking?

What kind of nonsense are you drinking "to gain weight" with?
Focus on building quality muscle instead; that’s the easiest way to pack on the mass.

Just focus on high-quality bulking meals. That's the easiest way to pack on the pounds.

I'm pretty sure she meant something like a whey mass gainer. She mentioned protein, not some crazy weight-gain supplements...

I’ve been looking into some of this pro-athlete supplement stuff... specifically Labrada's Elast Joint $47... it goes for about $35 here... then there's Supercharge at roughly $80... which is about $45 locally... and honestly, who's the fool now? It’s a no-brainer; I'll be ordering from them again the second I need anything rather than handing my hard-earned cash over to these local scammers. β˜•

It’s the exact same story when you look at LabCorp.
The way things work here, they sell certain brands under an "exclusive" labelβ€”making them way more expensive than everything elseβ€”just because they bumped up the margins. That’s really the whole reason why prices jump around so much between different brands in our shops. If you compared what we pay here to what people pay out there, you’d see the same pattern for them too.
Smart businessmen, I guess. 😁

It looks like "Mega Mass" or something around the 400 mark... honestly, the name alone feels a bit off to me. I mean, it's called "Mega Mass," yet they recommended it for weight loss? I just can't quite wrap my head around how those two things go together.πŸ™‚

Neither you (nor he) needs any of that mega mass nonsenseβ€”it's just marketing fluff... stick to some whey protein after your workout...

That's true. Those mass gainers are total garbage. Grab some whey and call it a day.

What about when you factor in shipping and customs?

ESPN is an absolute steal if you live near the border or close to Canada. You just place your order with a note asking them to ship it to your nearest USPS location so you can pick it up there. I mean, why would anyone bother driving all the way out of Washington, D.C., or Indianapolis, or even San Francisco, just to hit up a Canadian post office to grab a package? It’s a tiny price to pay for the savings.
My last order was about $170 for me and a buddy, and of course, we didn't have to deal with any customs feesβ€”we ended up saving double what we would've spent locally. Besides, you can't even get IBM products or certain other gear here in the States, so ESPN is basically the law!

Besides, what’s actually difficult about playing the system just a little? If you're buying a larger quantity for yourself, why not just order something and grab stuff for four friends too? You all head down to the nearest USPS together, and suddenly you've managed to buy goods worth up to $500 without ever touching customsβ€”provided you aren't in the mood for actual smuggling...

I mean, I'm not going out of my way to cause trouble over a measly $17 difference... not when I can easily save over $100 by being smart about it. Why wouldn't I?

And even on those products where you do end up paying customs, you get a tax refund the next time you go, so it still ends up being cheaper and better than anything we find locally....

Sure, it's a bit of maneuvering, but... why not?

How much protein should I be hitting if I'm weighing in at 172 lbs?

There are all sorts of theories floating around out thereβ€”do yourself a favor and do a little Google search.
Generally speaking, you really need at least 1 gram of protein for every kilogram of body weight. If you’re an athlete or if you’re actually serious about getting into bodybuilding, you should be aiming closer to 1.5 to 2 grams. Of course, it isn't just about the macrosβ€”you have to stay on top of your vitamins and hydration too. There are quite a few little nuances to keep in mind if you want to see real results.
You really ought to take a moment to dive deep and actually study what this is.Hey everyone, just checking in! How's it going? The impact!
Google is performing absolute miracles!

Just to throw a little math into the mix here: if you’re tracking your macros, keep in mind that 100g of lean meat will land you right around 25g of protein, a liter of milk gives you about 35g, and a high-quality can of tuna packs roughly 40g.

Well, I guess it mostly depends on how much your wallet can handle.
Honestly, don't sweat it too muchβ€”unless you've got some underlying health issues going on, you probably won't overdo it.
