Best sequels to cult films from 2006/2007? in Movies ·
It looks like they’re moving forward with the next Mad Max installment regardless of whether Mel Gibson returns or not...
Best sequels to cult films from 2006/2007? in Movies ·
So, looking at the next couple of years, we’re basically staring down a tidal wave of sequels to cult films—everything from a new Rambo or Rocky VI, to The Terminator, Indiana Jones, and maybe even a Mad Max revival, though I wouldn't hold my breath on that last one... Given the track record of these reboots, which of these actually stands a chance of being a decent movie...

People talk too much... sometimes a remake actually manages to outshine the original.

Ethan Martinez11 said:It’s a solid film. Aside from the money side of things, I can't see what else would drive a remake of an original like this, because they certainly aren't doing it for the aesthetic... 😉

Singer is a great director, so I wouldn't be shocked if this ended up being better than the original...

What?? No Jigsaw? 🙂

Amanda 😂

Just a clever way to bury the franchise for good...

They missed out on their cut of the pie, so naturally, they're making noise because they can't play the game that way.

Exactly, they'd sell their souls to the devil if the price was right enough 😁

Goddammit, those religious fanatics... just a bunch of hypocrites...
shadowgardener12 said:I’m completely on board with denying permission if the location is still being used by the Church.

And honestly, the second someone mentions Los Angeles, it’s treated like some untouchable deity... as if everything needs to be cleared through Hollywood first.

It’s not like anyone else in the world would have even known they were filming there.

I’ve touched on this before in another thread, but it seems most "urbanites" use Hollywood as their only metric for culture...
while showing absolutely zero respect for their own heritage.
The only thing that matters is whether Hollywood or America takes an interest in it.

People would probably sell out their own grandmothers just to see them in a Los Angeles production.
👍
Well, congratulations then!

They really should have phrased it differently—something like, we don't want major Los Angeles productions being filmed here, rather than making excuses about it being a movie influenced by Satan... because Omen isn't a satanic film, and at no point does Omen glorify Satan; it stands against him. One should actually watch the film before passing judgment. The Church ought to focus its energy on other issues, like the hypocrisy and predatory behavior within its own ranks.

You’re being dense, man... American films are shot all over the globe, yet for some reason you think they shouldn't be allowed here because we might be "influenced" by another culture... as if where a movie is filmed carries any weight or dictates how people will react to it.

😱

Look, even the original didn't bother with any real characterization; honestly, the only thing I felt any sympathy for was the kid in the stroller...
Hypocritical bastards... I consider myself a Christian and all that, but every single priest is a fraud, damn them all to hell 👎
crimsonmoose3 said:Just a bunch of mindless idiots and vandals who belong right next to those morons in France, the guy who swiped Bruce Lee’s nunchucks in Pittsburgh, and those high schoolers out there backing Ante Gotovina... while pretending they aren't just marking territory.

Exactly... though you're forgetting that this is still the States, where we always seem to be trailing a hundred years behind the rest of the civilized world...

As for those priests and their omens, I think it would be wise if they actually watched the original film before passing judgment, but then again, that might require a level of general culture they clearly don't possess...

Constantin said:Gunnar Hansen (the only decent Leatherface) basically asked why anyone would bother remaking a masterpiece in the first place...

I think Gunnar Hansen is missing the point, because playing a role like Leatherface is an entirely different beast, and sometimes you need a remake just to make a story resonate with a modern audience, especially since the original is over thirty years old now... I’m not exactly out here defending this specific remake, but there have been plenty of solid ones, take Dawn of the Dead for example... sure, it didn't touch the original, but it was still a good film...

Constantin said:That’s why you should stick to the originals and skip the remakes, unless we're talking about the creation...

You really ought to see both sides, because Cronenberg's The Fly is technically a remake and easily one of the best horror movies ever made...🙂
Gregory Smith8 said:Can someone please refresh my memory on these two movies? I know I’ve seen them, but the plots are slipping away... is one of them set in the woods where they get hunted through the trees?

Yeah, Wrong Turn is the one set in the woods where they're being hunted through the trees.

Honestly, you should probably just check IMDb if you want the details...
crimsonmoose3 said:The absolute worst part is they’re filming a prequel set during Leatherface's childhood... just pure garbage.🙂 Even the third installment holds up better than the remake.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning 😁

One final road trip before heading off to serve in Vietnam, two friends (Handley and Bomer) along with their girlfriends (Baird and Brewster) end up in an accident that brings the local sheriff (Ermey) to the scene. It kicks off a nightmare when the group is hauled off to a remote house of horrors, where a budding killer is being raised...

Seems like everyone is obsessed with "beginnings" lately... 😁

By the way, the guy behind this also directed Darkness Falls, which was just another mediocre horror flick...
