Maybe try navigating by looking for landmarks instead? Like, "I turned left at that sketchy yellow building," until you hit the corner with the local hardware store or whatever...
Or just memorize which way the main boulevard runs and figure out where all the side streets sit in relation to it... at least then you'd have one decent point of reference to work with.
Honestly, this is straight out of a Psychology textbook...
I’ve heard that people who are blind actually dream in scents, textures, and sounds, while those who lost their sight later on end up dreaming in full color and actually seeing things...
Megan Wood12 said:Look, being calm is fine, but I’m so laid back people always call me a zombie. And honestly, when is it a bad idea to lose your cool a little, vent, and snap at someone who's getting on your nerves? I just can't do that. That's how it is. Hopefully, you get it now.
hmm... but if nothing ever gets under your skin, then you don't really have anything to vent... which, if you think about it, is actually a pretty solid way to live...
Some people think being totally zen and unshakeable is the ultimate peak of wisdom... though I guess I agree that going completely numb isn't exactly the goal either...
Megan Wood12 said:If I weren't so laid back and open, and if I wasn't such a lazy, slow mover
So the lady above you wants to be calm, but you aren't looking to be?...
I mean, what kind of guy actually *doesn't* want to be level-headed? 😕 Isn't being chill basically a virtue at this point? It’s definitely better than just being constantly pissed off and on edge all the time...
Besides, you’ve got nothing to lose. I mean, unless we're talking life or death here... then you've got nothing to lose (well, okay, maybe a massive credit card debt at Chase, but still) You only live once! 🙂 Why even stress about the fallout if just dwelling on the "what ifs" is going to make you feel like absolute garbage for the next hundred years?! And honestly, the consequences probably won't be nearly as catastrophic as your brain is making them out to be...
James Bailey said:Yes, I am sure. As for why, I suppose those are details I'm just not able to share. She knows, but whether she feels the same way... well, I suppose that doesn't really matter. What I did... I guess you could compare it to darting across a busy intersection in the middle of a rainstorm while carrying a heavy load—where braking is nearly impossible (actually, I did do exactly that once, and maybe it was because of her).😬 Within the next couple of days, I'll probably "manage" to pull off another stunt like that. I realize there are much bigger problems in the world, but still... 😢
yeah... think about the kids in Africa☕
I honestly don't get how people try to offer advice or comfort when we don't even know why you're going to crash and burn in a few days, or why she's off-limits, or if she even feels the same way... I mean, why shouldn't people be allowed to be together? At the end of the day, anyone can be with anyone...
They’re alright, I guess, but honestly, I just can't be bothered to sit through them... if you aren't actually saying anything meaningful, then why even bother?.. their lyrics are pretty mid to me, some parts are even just plain annoying—like some overly dramatic indie band trying way too hard to be deep about broken hearts and stuff...
Oh, and one more thing... Betty is actually solid 🙂 "Two Minutes of Terror" is decent enough too

Samuel Grant54, don't get worked up. It’s just hormones. I’m twice your age and I still go on tear sessions where I smash things. Honestly, if I don't have my sister around to vent to, all hell breaks loose. I can't even begin to count how many phones, dishes, watches, handbags, or whatever else has been hurled at a wall, thrown out a window, or launched from a moving car.
The only thing I won't touch is the TV. In my house, that thing is practically sacred. 😁
If you’re still foaming at the mouth after an omelet like that, you’ve got bigger problems than just a bad breakfast.
Look, while you’re actually in a decent mood for once, do me a favor and go show some real love and appreciation to your sister. Seriously. If I were in her shoes, I’d have already laid you out. The woman has more class in her pinky finger than most people have in their entire lives. 🙏 🙏 🙏
Or maybe she is obsessed, but more in that "grumpy old lady giving you the death stare because you didn't pick up her favorite apples, so now she's taking it out on your Voodoo doll" kind of way...
Aaron Anderson72 said:Well, I wasn't talking about superficial facts when I said "general knowledge"!
But I consider all of it part of a well-rounded education because nobody can ever truly master every single niche. For example, you could spend your whole life studying electrical engineering at MIT or somewhere, and even then, there isn't a single professor or expert out there who knows absolutely everything!
That's why I call the expertise I'm aiming for my "general knowledge."
Take biology, for instance. To me, general knowledge isn't just knowing the heart has four chambers. It's knowing the exact layout of the vessels, the valves, how every little part functions, the tissue types, how the SA node works, how that shows up on an EKG, various diseases, and all those Latin terms!
Do you honestly think you can't make connections with knowledge like that?????
Here's an example of making a connection! First: You know the biology behind metabolism and nutrition. Second: You know from experience that sketchy brands like Amway are total scams and bad for you. So, when someone tries to sell you some Herbalife nonsense, you shut them down immediately because you connected those two pieces of info and realized it's garbage!
Well, okay... I guess it depends on how everyone defines general knowledge. I mean, knowing all that stuff about the heart is a bit more than just "general." It’s impossible to know everything as deeply as you just described for the heart... and it’s not even necessary... plus, having all that info might just end up scrambling your brain...
I'm not saying you have to dive into one single subject until you hit the bottom of your soul. Nobody ever truly knows everything... and honestly, the more you learn, the less you feel like you actually know... but what I am saying is that you can still connect certain ideas in a decent way even if you don't know every single detail about everything...
And for me, those Herbalife types wouldn't be able to screw with me regardless of whether I knew much about metabolism or not... because generally speaking, I consider people who show up at my door trying to sell me stuff to be idiots (meaning, I think the products they're pushing are trash), and I just don't buy into those weird artificial supplements anyway... 🤷 but alright... I get that it's better to buy things when you actually understand what they are... so nobody can trick you into signing a two-year contract on a smartphone when you don't even know what a service plan is...
But then again, a lot of that knowledge is never going to be useful... like, unless you're in med school, you're probably never going to need to know which specific vessels exit the heart... 🤷 I mean, I doubt you'll be performing surgery anytime soon... but then again, I suppose it's always better to know a lot, since you never know when it might come in handy...
Aaron Anderson72 said:Just one more thing: I really want to soak up all that general knowledge—you know, being able to dabble in pretty much any field of science or life and actually making smart connections between them! That’s how I’d get as close to perfection as possible! ☕
Anyway, I’m officially starting my quest for perfection today! Just finished reading up on the structure of the U.S. military, and now I'm diving straight into human biology!
honestly, I don't think you can really draw deep connections through just general knowledge... because at the end of the day, it's mostly just surface-level info... I feel like you can actually link things together when you actually know two subjects deeply, rather than just knowing a tiny bit about everything...
like, when you're actually majoring in something, you can see how a million other things in life tie back to it. at least, that's how it works for me... I'm starting to see these patterns emerge between different topics... whereas general knowledge is just... well, it's pretty shallow...
crimsontinker7 said:😲 This whole thing is giving me the creeps... Over the last few months, I’ve started washing my hands after every little thing. I don't know. Touch the carpet, wash hands. Eat a candy bar, wash hands. Sometimes even just opening a door—touching a handle—though not every single time, just whenever the urge hits. Basically everything.
I make sure I'm never late. If I have class at 7:30, I set my alarm for 6:30. It’s a nice, round number, so I still make it on time... Maybe you have OCD too :P It doesn't matter if you aren't obsessed with round numbers; you're clearly obsessed with something else. The thing is, I perform these rituals constantly, but I wouldn't say I'm totally addicted to them. I can break my own rules whenever I want without it being a massive crisis. Sometimes it gets a bit annoying, though. Like when I shower, I always have to pour water over a specific part of my body at the very end. It's my signal that the shower is done. 😁 Yesterday, it was actually hard not to do it. I was sitting there thinking, "Do I pour the water or not? Should I or shouldn't I?" In the end, I didn't do it. It was tough to push past in the moment, but nothing bad happened.
But the absolute worst part was when I was taking a crap (excuse my French), and I wasn't allowed to use more toilet paper than my self-imposed limit. And then, after hitting that number, I'd realize—damn it—that I wasn't clean yet, but I couldn't help myself. So what am I supposed to do? Just get dressed and move on. I don't do that anymore, but back then, it was a total pain in the ass... I don't know, Morgan Bishop4, do you deal with stuff like this?
you have to pour water on yourself to show someone you're finished? that sounds kinda pointless 🤷
And I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with control. Like, do you generally feel like you don't have control over your life? Or like things just happen and they aren't how you want them to be? Maybe you're just trying to compensate by exerting control over those tiny little things...
man, I don't have those issues with my business 😁 I mean, just fold a sheet a few extra times, or wipe, or refold it if your precious little measurement isn't cutting it... or just deal with being messy later? 🤷 Or just use what you need... sometimes one square does the trick, sometimes you need half a roll, whatever 😁 )
It’s honestly wild how people will call someone a complete monster just for being cruel to a dog or a cat, yet they don't give a second thought to politicians who drag millions of people into total ruin through endless wars, or those reckless, drunk parents who completely neglect their kids and leave them with lifelong psychological scars... or maybe it’s just me... it feels like people have way more empathy for animals than they do for actual human beings...
And what about all the pigs and chickens that get slaughtered every single day just to end up on our dinner plates? Or the little rabbits and monkeys used in those cosmetic tests for the products sitting in your bathroom right now? Nobody seems to view that as "cruelty"... buying stuff like that is perfectly fine and totally moral, apparently...
I'm not trying to defend anyone, per se, but the double standards are just glaring...
Oh, man, exactly! That thing with the sneaker? I do that with pretty much everything! I feel this frantic need to correct an action because I have this nagging sensation that I've altered something permanent. Obviously, I know logically that I haven't (I'm not actually that crazy...), but the impulse is just there, driving you to fix it. You described that feeling perfectly.
I tried being wild too... but after a while, I realize I haven't cleaned everything up properly, and then I just get this constant internal nagging that things aren't right!!
I'm the same way. Except I never took it that seriously. There were plenty of times I'd just stop and ask myself, wait a minute, who is the actual lunatic here? 😁 I only recently realized that it's okay to let go. There's something else, though—not sure if you guys deal with this too. When I wake up and look at the clock, say it's 9:36 AM, I feel like I can't leave bed until 10:00 sharp because I can only get up on the hour. But enough of that crap, I'm cutting these stupid habits out. I just wonder... is it actually possible to reach a point where you don't even think about them anymore? Hmm... 🤔
But won't you end up being late for work or school? (Or whatever)
Try setting your alarm for something random like 7:17 or 9:34... I usually end up setting mine to an odd number 😱 is that some kind of obsession with being non-obsessive or something?! Someone actually asked me why I set my alarm for 8:02 or 9:13 :/ but for some reason, I feel like I sleep way better if the time is just... off... 🤷
I saw this woman on some documentary once who dealt with a much more intense version of this disorder... basically, the second she walked through her front door from wherever she’d been, she’d strip off every single stitch of clothing and just dump it right there in the hallway floor, and leave it there for a full 24 hours!! (She couldn't even touch it, because in her mind, it would somehow "reset" or cancel out whatever she had built up over those 24 hours... you know how these things go, it's all in the head) and then she’d go scrub herself down super aggressively, just scrubbing away. And man, she washed her hands so constantly that they were literally raw and red up to her elbows sometimes!!! It was mostly centered around bacteria, obsessive hygiene, stuff like that.
So, she started therapy, and bit by bit, she began doing things on purpose—like intentionally not washing her hands after eating, or putting back on the same clothes, maybe even wearing something that might have been dirty... or petting the cat and just not washing up afterward... etc. And things actually got better after that... at least her hands weren't so bloody and irritated from all the washing anymore.
There was also this guy who had to count everything. Everything he laid eyes on, he had to count, and he couldn't find any peace until he finished the count...
And another guy who had to "cancel out" everything (sort of like how you wash your face), like if he did one action, he had to immediately follow it up with another specific action to "undo" the first one, just to keep everything in some kind of balance... :/
Look, if this is starting to actually mess with your head, maybe look into getting some professional help, or if you think you can tackle it yourself, just try taking tiny baby steps... like someone suggested making an asymmetrical sandwich or something like that.
Honestly, I think we all have these little quirks or weird habits... like, I always wipe down my mouse after my sister touches it (and she always manages to get it gross), or when I'm walking along a sidewalk outside, I always try not to step on the cracks... or if my stride is going a certain way, I'll try to land my foot exactly in the middle of the line... :/ and then sometimes I'll purposely step on it with just part of my foot, just so I don't become obsessed with it.
mistybison said:I believe our perception of uniqueness depends entirely on our environment. People who are strictly average often view anyone slightly different as eccentric or special, whereas those same individuals might seem perfectly ordinary in a more unconventional setting. I have personally experienced both perspectives, noticing how my own judgment shifts as my understanding of what is "normal" expands.
Nowadays, I rarely encounter people who truly stand out, whereas back in high school, I felt surrounded by unique personalities at every turn.😁 Over time, one realizes that people are much more alike than they are different; for most, it is a case of "seeing one is seeing them all," just with slight variations. I actually went through a phase where I actively sought out unconventional people, but they were difficult to find, and when I did, they often lacked the stability needed for a healthy relationship. Consequently, I have learned to value "cultivated normalcy" over "innate eccentricity"—meaning I appreciate those who work on themselves to develop their natural talents and build interesting, well-rounded personalities within their own unique strengths.🙂
yeah, it absolutely depends on the setting. like, if I moved to NYC right now, I probably wouldn't even blink at seeing people dressed in insane outfits or whatever... in a small town in the Midwest, you're a total outcast if you wear ripped jeans and all black :/ but in a big city, there are hundreds of people just like that every single day... I can't decide if I hate the people who constantly claim they're "special" even more, or the ones who spend their whole lives trying to force themselves into those "special" circles. Like, they won't even hang out with regular people who dress and act normally, instead they're always desperately trying to stay relevant in groups of totally unhinged, wildly overdressed types 🙄 so cool...
And then, after all that, you finally meet one of these people who seemed so unique and awesome, only to be totally let down :/ turns out... the only thing "special" about them was their haircut... their actual personality was just soul-crushingly boring
Every single person is unique (I know, I know, I’ve probably heard that cliché about five hundred times already, but honestly, it’s the only thing that actually rings true) And standing out from the crowd... based on what, exactly? I can't think of anyone who truly stands out in every single way, because if they did, they wouldn't be human, they'd basically be an alien... I meet people who stand out because of how they dress, or the way they talk, or whether they're being polite or a complete jerk, or just the sheer stupidity of their takes, or maybe their sense of humor, etc... but I haven't met anyone who hits the jackpot in all those categories at once :/
Just because someone wears loud, flashy clothes doesn't mean they have a standout personality to match. On the flip side, you've got people who dress totally basic and act more or less like everyone else, yet they might actually be the weirdest person you'll ever meet...
The types of people who go around telling everyone how "special" they are probably aren't special at all; they just really, really want to be seen that way.
And then there are those who try way too hard to seem unique... or the ones who constantly brag about how fun and quirky they are, acting like everyone is just dying to hang out with them because they're so "eccentric"... give me a break 🤦
At the end of the day, there's no point in exhausting yourself trying to be completely different from everyone else, because it's just pointless... we're all human and we're all pretty much built the same... I mean, we share like 99% of our DNA (or whatever that number is?!) You should focus on actually developing your own character, your skills, and your talents... because that's what actually makes someone a real person...
I honestly just wish I could take all the best traits from someone like Maya Angelou and combine them with the grit of Serena Williams to create one perfect, unstoppable persona... basically, a supercharged version of myself.
