Senior year burnout: Too many responsibilities and zero sleep in Psychology & Therapy ·
What if you just... lowered the bar a little? Look, it’s not like you need to master every single detail right this second, and you definitely don't need to be the valedictorian of your class or whatever... or, I don't know, go ahead and wreck your health if having a degree is more important than actually living life.
And please, spare me the whole "I'm taking such an intense major and you wouldn't understand" routine, because we all know your syllabus is somehow uniquely impossible compared to everyone else's.
At the end of the day, you only have as many obligations as you choose to pile onto yourself... personally, I try to keep mine at a bare minimum.
Issues with Gom player in Software ·
Ugh, I couldn't find any subtitles for part two of this movie anywhere... and honestly, most of those other flicks with totally trashed subtitles are just low-budget Bollywood stuff anyway, so I guess I should be grateful there's at least some English subs available, even if they're buggy and require me to mess around with the settings just to make them readable, damn it...
Issues with Gom player in Software ·
Thanks... though I ended up just downloading a new version of BS Player at the end of the day anyway, which actually lets me manually adjust the delay to whatever I want... honestly, it’s a lifesaver because I have way too many crappy subtitles in my collection

emergency situation here!!
does anyone actually know how to skip massive chunks of time—like, I'm talking 45 minutes at once—in Gom without having to spam the arrow keys just to get the subtitles to catch up?

dammit, I’ve got this movie split into two separate files, but the subtitle file is just one long continuous thing...

VLC Media Player won't even recognize it, and PotPlayer is being a total pain in the ass... plus, I have no clue if you can even sync stuff like this in PotPlayer to begin with...

anybody please help me out
Original thought in Psychology ·
And that’s just how it goes... which is why even when I have these moments where I think I’ve finally stumbled onto something totally original and mind-blowing, I eventually realize that someone else already beat me to it... 😢
Like, I remember thinking how cool it would be if we built skyscrapers shaped like rolling hills, only to hop online the very next day and find the exact same concept 😢 already sketched out and everything.... eeee h...
It honestly makes me question every single thought I have—is this actually my own brain working, or did someone else land on the exact same idea way before me? 😢 And whatever I try to draw or play, I catch myself wondering if it’s already out there somewhere, because maybe I just saw or heard it once and it got stuck in my head, damn it...
And I mean, what kind of genius ideas could we even come up with that would actually make life better?! Honestly, our quality of life is pretty much peak compared to how things used to be and we aren't really lacking anything, except for those people starving or dealing with certain diseases, obviously... and I feel like in this messy, complicated modern world, there isn't anything left as fundamental as, say, the wheel or fire that would move the needle... it would have to be some insanely complex machine for God knows what... or something like that.
Though, if you ask me, the one thing that would actually improve life today is just using your own damn brain. But sometimes you don't even get the chance to sit down and think, because you're buried under work and all that... and you just get lost in stuff you hate doing that you don't even strictly *have* to do, but you're just used to it and convinced it's fine... damn...
Unforgettable movie torture scenes in Movies ·
Hannibal—remember that part where the guy gets his head sliced open, and he just carves out a chunk of brain and hands it over for him to eat? Honestly... I think that’s going to be burned into my brain forever.
Vampires Suck in Movies ·
I mean... yeah... I get that it looks pretty moronic when people start laughing at stuff that’s clearly brainless... but honestly... that's kind of the whole point. These things aren't exactly aiming to be cinematic masterpieces or feature top-tier actors or whatever... they're just there to mess around and have a little fun
I mean, obviously I’d give it a shot 😁 you know... maybe for a week... anything longer than that might actually be a bit much for me, if you catch my drift... just so I don't end up burning every single one of my girlfriends or whatever else happens when things get intense..
And honestly, I’m curious about the whole male body thing, just to see what it’s like... you know... being without breasts and having a dick 😁 plus I’d definitely want to feel out a woman's body too, I bet that would be pretty interesting... and stuff like that..
Vampires Suck in Movies ·
I think 😁
is actually pretty decent... I mean, yeah, it’s absolute trash and the jokes are incredibly dumb, but honestly, some of them are so ridiculous that they’re actually great 🙏 🙏. I was cracking up, and since I can't stand Twilight, there's just something so satisfying about watching people tear it apart.
Maybe I’m just a bit of an idiot for laughing at such low-brow humor, but hey 😁... it beats obsessing over Edward and sitting through Twilight where absolutely nothing happens.
What is Jouissance? in Psychology ·
so, wait, are you telling me that Jouissance is basically just step one on the road to masochism?! :/ i don't really get that part... i mean, isn't it true that we're all pretty much constantly exposed to some kind of subconscious ache or whatever... who knows...
What is Jouissance? in Psychology ·
Isn't that basically just masochism at this point? Or, you know... finding some kind of twisted pleasure in the pain or something "bad"...

Samuel Reed2 said:You aren't a psychopath. 🙂You just sound exhausted. As if you’ve simply run out of the capacity to care. Given everything you've written, can we really blame you? It seems life has placed quite a heavy burden on your shoulders.
Imagine trekking around all day with a 50-pound backpack, only to end the night performing a high-intensity folk dance. Is that supposed to be a workout? 😍 After that, you wouldn't have any energy left for anything else; you'd be forced to just sit down and recover. 🙂

As for this second wave of exhaustion, a pillow and a blanket aren't doing much to help. What actually works? I haven't the slightest clue. 😢

A week off at a beach house or somewhere deep in the mountains without a phone, zero internet, and absolutely no annoying people 😍😍... man, I'd go straight to the mountains right now... or maybe just head to the coast...
I feel numb to other people's suffering in Psychology & Therapy ·
You’ve actually got all the right ingredients to become a total cold-blooded sociopath... 🙂
Honestly, I don't even blink at news articles unless they're happening right here in my own backyard... but seriously, imagine if we actually lost our minds and felt devastated for every single person who gets killed, harassed, or loses everything... you've gotta protect your own peace of mind somehow...

And look, when the moment actually hits you—when you have a real, valid reason to feel something—you'll feel it... it'll happen naturally...

Besides, there's nothing helpful about telling someone "well, at least it could be worse" when their life is being torn apart by some tragedy... comparing your own luck or misery to someone else's absolute nightmare doesn't fix anything, it just leads to a massive clusterfuck...
Why do my eyes swell up after drinking? in Health ·
wiredpilot30 said:Well, look, if you’re actually a total alcoholic, you’re probably gonna have to see a doctor 😬

Personally, I’m leaning towards this being some weird combo of spring allergies and booze... just everything hitting at once.

I mean, I honestly thought it was a springtime thing too...
and I’m definitely not an alcoholic or anything, but the idea of never being able to enjoy a single drink again without my eyes turning into literal donuts sounds like a nightmare...
Why do my eyes swell up after drinking? in Health ·
So, over the last month or so, whenever I have a few drinks—maybe two or three glasses, or even more than that...—I start getting this intense itching under my eyes and around my eyelids later on, or sometimes even the next day, and then everything just starts swelling up 🤷😕
.
I honestly can't tell if I've suddenly developed some weird allergy or what... I mean, washing my face with chamomile tea for a couple of days seems to help a little, but I’m totally lost here... am I supposed to just give up alcohol entirely now or what?! 😕

At first, I figured maybe it was some kind of pollen or something since I'd been spending time outdoors... then I thought maybe it was that heavy red wine I had... but then it happened after having beer, too...

I have no clue if this is something that's going to get worse or if it'll just pass... should I actually go see a doctor about it?

college is my sore spot 🤣

It’s not even really about how I look... :/ I don't go around thinking I'm ugly or anything... it's just that I couldn't care less about fashion, makeup, kids, or any of those trendy little lifestyle things... so I hate it when people grill me about stuff like that... and then they act like it's totally normal for everyone to be obsessed with using every single beauty product under the sun... or like we're all supposed to be tracking every single calorie we eat 24/7 or whatever else... 🤷 and then somehow I end up looking like some uncultured caveman just because I don't spend my life primping in front of a mirror 😕

here is some real man-to-man advice 🙏

so great... I'm out here dropping top-tier masculine wisdom despite being a woman...

but honestly, there’s really no point in running away from how you feel... it’s better to just face it head-on, deal with the mess, and move on...

I mean, is she even related to you? Like, maybe a sister, a cousin, an aunt, or even your mom??

Patrick Johnson8 said:Don't get ahead of yourself. Look, I’m good. I’m not going to cheat you, steal from you, or lie to you—unless we're playing something like Call of Duty and things get intense. Then I’ll turn into that Hobbit from Lord of the Rings and start screaming "my precious" twenty times in a row. 😲

In other words, you're out of questions.
Maybe try something like... "Hey. You look incredible. Heading to the Metallica show?" Or whatever works, depending on what they're actually into.
Why do people always ask those mindless, pointless questions that serve absolutely no purpose?
It’s the same every time. Honestly, being asked how college is going makes me want to gag. Even when I’m absolutely crushing my classes, that question is just nauseating. Why? Because there's no winning. If I say, "Man, things are going great," I feel like an arrogant jerk who's just bragging about passing every exam. I don't like starting conversations that way. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But if I say, "Exams are killing me," then people just give me that patronizing pity, saying stuff like, "Hang in there, it'll get better." Either way, I already know exactly how the conversation is going to end. It's totally predictable, and honestly, it's just a terrible way to start a chat.

So, my boyfriend and I were out running errands the other day when he ran into an old friend of his who works at a local Target. We ended up chatting for a bit. About five minutes in, she asks me how college is going. I just gave her the usual: "Oh, you know, hanging in there... trying to find the motivation to actually study. The usual struggle." Then she hits me with this: "See? I didn't go to college. I just work at Target." Or something like that. That was the vibe.
Now I feel like an idiot just for bringing this up. Look, it’s not that I’m judging people based on what they do or who they are—that's not my style. It’s more that, honestly, some women probably just make up these scenarios in their heads. It's a general thing, really, whether you're talking about college students or established professionals like us. But in reality? It's just not true. 🙏

For fuck's sake... stop asking me those damn questions about college!

It’s not that they aren't there. 😁
When I first started college... my aunt was basically screaming from the rooftops about how "my little girl is going to university! She's doing this and she's doing that!"
And I’m just sitting there, watching everyone's faces. People are working so hard to act polite and sweet, but inside? They're thinking exactly what any normal person would: "I couldn't care less what she enrolled in. Just leave me alone. Why does this matter?"

Isn't that just how it is? 😁

you really do have a massive issue with college questions 😕🤣

well, first I ask a friend how things are going... and then we talk, and I say something, and she says something... and once we're actually vibing, naturally I'll ask how school is or how love life is... because, well, I care... that's what socializing is, when she tells me what's happening in her world and I tell her what's happening in mine 🤷 I don't see what the big deal is

and if someone is struggling with school, I won't just say—'it'll get better' or some other dumb phrase.. instead, I'd ask what the struggle is and if I can offer any advice or help (like if she's studying the same thing as me and needs some study guides or something)... or if she mentions a professor is being a hardass, we can just bond over complaining about them.. I truly don't get why people think you should avoid talking about college? it's just a topic like any other..

I'm not going to ask people I know if they're going to a concert, because they've obviously already told me, and I'm not asking strangers because I have no clue what kind of music they listen to..

I mean, college is just basic small talk... just like football, makeup 🙄, politics, the weather, romance, health.. I don't see the problem..

The only thing I hate is when someone tries to dig into my specific grades 🤷 like... seriously, this is university, not high school. you don't ask what my GPA is, you ask if I'm passing. that's the kind of question that gets under my skin..
and then, to top it all off, they start bragging about their cousin who's studying political science and getting straight A's.🙄

ugh... I honestly can't stand it when people start interrogating me about my looks. Like, they'll be all up in my business asking what kind of shampoo I use because they "noticed" my hair looks greasy, or flaky, or way too dry...
Or it’s always—are you using some specific skincare routine? Because you really should be...
Or even worse—did you lose weight? Or next time—did you gain weight? And then the follow-up—wait, did you get bigger again? It’s just constant... and I’m just sitting there being the exact same person every single time... uh... I just really hate all those questions about how I look... brrrr...

goldenraven9 said:Honestly, what's the big deal? People ask because they're genuinely curious or because they've run out of topics. Personally, I would never ask someone their grades just so I could smugly smirk about my own higher marks.
Nobody actually cares, so there is absolutely no reason to be embarrassed.
Besides, isn't it trendy these days to be a complete failure?
I'm heading to my five-year high school reunion soon, and I already know the drill: everyone will be graduated, married, employed, and acting like responsible adults, while I'll be the lone outlier.
And so what? Who cares.
Just relax.

I'm with you on that... if I run into a friend I haven't seen in forever, I'm definitely asking how school is going, since that's pretty much their entire personality right now... plus, it's way less invasive than, like, "so how's your love life?" or "are you guys fighting again?" Ugh... I only dive into relationship drama with my inner circle... asking about college is just general small talk and doesn't have to be a competition...

I mean, I'm not going to ask someone "what's up" just so I can measure their life against mine, or check in on their relationship hoping things are going worse than mine...

Sure, there are certain types of people—you know, the gossipy ones—who would ask those things just to have something to talk about later... but if it's a friend, an acquaintance, or family... it's totally normal... it's basically the same as asking "where are you working now?" or "how's the job treating you?" blah blah blah...
