Hero Mike - question about my username in Feedback & Suggestions ·
What about now? Just leave Jack alone, and I mean forever, not just for the moment. The guy was handed a sentence based entirely on the testimony of someone with actual mental health issues—and I don’t mean that as an insult, I mean there’s legitimate medical documentation for it—who kept changing their story over and over again. And honestly, if anyone actually believes we should be sending university professors off to fight in wars, well, I guess that's just their own opinion.
I haven't actually sat down to watch these movies yet, but I don't really get it... I mean, how is that little girl supposed to be sexy to anyone? She has, like, the weirdest smile out of all those actresses everyone keeps raving about, and her beard—well, it literally disappears. I guess, I don't know, why is there such a huge craze for a woman who looks like that?
Standard of living in Cuba is better than in America in Close to Politics ·
Richard Wilson4 said:Your average American could walk into a neighborhood full of regular Cubans and feel like a total king

Well, you can actually get in with a special permit. I have this business colleague, an Englishman, who heads over to Cuba once a year for a few weeks at a time, and because of his status, he’s allowed to drive cars and access pretty much any part of the island. And honestly? Because of him—literally just one guy—the university, two hospitals, and most likely some government ministries (though he won't admit it) all have IT systems that he spends his time upgrading as much as he possibly can.

So, what he's describing is the actual reality of the poverty and the frustration there. It really doesn't line up with those stories they try to feed us about some happy, carefree people living their best lives.

Maybe you should just head down to Cuba first, then come back and give us your two cents on this. I mean, that’s assuming you can actually get past the tourist traps and see the real Cuba, which is tough because you'll probably just run into guys standing on barricades with old-school AKs everywhere.
Sabotage (2014) in Movies ·
I mean, Sergio Leone is probably the only one who could have actually fixed this mess. Women in these kinds of movies can end up having such tiny roles, or sometimes just nothing at all (unless we're talking about someone like Claudia Cardinale, haha). Honestly, it’s kind of a shame because Arnold Schwarzenegger actually gave a decent performance here, but when you just pile a bunch of total nobodies around him... I don't know, there's no substance, no direction, and the whole thing just feels aimless. That's why the final result turned out the way it did.
Perković and Mustać: Close to politicians in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I mean, maybe we should just wrap up the stuff that isn't strictly political for now, since basically the entire federal government is backing Perković at any cost—even if it risks totally blowing our relationship with the European Union and Germany. I guess my take is that we really ought to get the conversation back on track toward actual politics

Sophia Grant39 said:I felt like I was watching some amateur production filled with million times overused, stereotypical characters. I expected way more from this director. Completely unconvincing and barely watchable...

Exactly. It's totally unbelievable, poorly written, and it feels like halfway through the movie, they switched out the entire crew responsible for making the thing. Arnold Schwarzenegger is solid, but he can't carry a whole movie on his own.

Man, Judge Dredd is such a great movie, but John Carter is just... meh.
Why is family being pushed so hard? in Close to Politics ·
Gregory Peterson2 said:First off, you've got a point there. 😁

With technological evolution, we could eventually just pop kids out of a test tube—no parents required. At that stage, the traditional family wouldn't even be necessary. Just high-end tech and a solid incubator, and boom: a world full of clones.
So, following your own logic, why should the family be considered sacred?

Exactly! I just don't get this deep-seated fear the conservative crowd has toward change. It’s been happening since humans first walked the earth. They just end up stalling progress. Change is inevitable—it'll happen sooner or later—but by resisting it, we just waste so much precious time.

Look, I'm not really trying to get bogged down in whether or not I agree with the word "sacred" itself... I just used it because, well, that's how people talk—regimes, systems, ideologies, they all come and go, but certain things just seem to stay constant. And yeah, sure, we might be able to manufacture children, but you still need the male and female biological components, regardless of what kind of high-tech incubator setup gets built later on. Evolution has pretty much stalled, no matter how advanced our gadgets get. We aren't quite living in some Robert Heinlein story yet where the whole concept of family becomes obsolete.
CIA mods in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Honestly, it kind of caught me off guard that anyone on the CIA felt insulted by anything—I mean, we all know what this place is like, right? We know what to expect, and that’s exactly why it’s such a cool spot to hang out. I haven't seen a single malicious post here, and there's definitely no hate going on. I poke fun at people, sure, but I mostly just make fun of myself, and I figure that's how it should work for everyone else too.

Also, I can back that up—the girls who used to post photos didn't leave because of the comments. It was more about real life stuff, you know? Just life getting in the way, other priorities, being busy... things like that.
Is there a "protection law for party apologists" on this forum? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
So, the thread was shut down today because the morning news just dropped a report saying Viviane Reding thinks the whole thing is wrapped up—but honestly, I don't think she's right. The matter isn't really settled, since the sanctions procedure actually stays in effect all the way until January 1st, 2014. But hey, anyway, the thread is locked now. :-)
Best protein powders for muscle gain? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
I mean, I totally get why people who are constantly working out eat the way they do, but sometimes I forget that I’m part of a different crowd :-)
Best protein powders for muscle gain? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
Wait, did I actually read that right? Is protein really turning into glucose? :-) I mean, yeah, I saw that, but the explanation feels kind of shaky to me. I guess that only happens if there's some kind of metabolic issue or—more likely—if you're just absolutely smashing way too much protein at once. So, as long as you're being smart about it, I don't think there's anything to worry about.

I’d say go with whey right after you finish your workout if you want your muscles to actually recover... I mean, unless you're being super, incredibly strict about your diet, otherwise you might end up losing muscle instead of building it up, which would suck. There are other supplements out there specifically for bulking up, but I guess I'm just not really a big fan of those kinds of things.

As for your arms—and honestly, for pretty much everything else too—I really recommend getting some kettlebells. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I haven't found anything else that provides such a solid foundation for serious training.

Tyler Jackson53 said:I’m kind of wondering if I should focus on cutting fat first before I try to bulk up, or what the move is? The thing is, I’m planning to stick strictly to cardio for at least the next month. And what about whey? Should I wait until I actually start hitting the weight room, or should I be drinking it now after my Muay Thai sessions? Even though I'm trying to drop some weight... I don't know. My training runs really late too—it wraps up around 11 PM, so maybe that’s part of the issue 😕 .

Honestly, using whey just for muscle recovery after any extra activity feels unnecessary to me, though I guess people have different opinions on that.

Go for the fat loss first. You'll be building new muscle along the way because, well, fat doesn't actually turn into muscle—it either burns off or it builds up. Building that new muscle will actually help speed up the fat burning process. After that, you can bulk up as much as you want, although, given your height and weight, you probably don't really need the extra mass for Muay Thai.

Angela Reyes7 said:So, I finally started working out! My goal is to drop about 10 pounds and maybe tone up a little bit. What supplements would you guys suggest? Just a heads up though, my protein intake is pretty low right now.

Well, start with the protein ;-) just scroll through the thread a bit, everything's already been covered there.

I honestly think MusclePharm whey is the cleanest stuff out there—at least in that specific price range. Last week I picked up the banana and berry flavor, but I’ll probably head back to chocolate or vanilla next time because banana just doesn't sit right with me, I guess. :-)
Right-wingers backing the Democratic Coalition in Close to Politics ·
It’s just so obvious, isn't it? You have people calling themselves part of the Right-wing United States, yet they’re actually voting to drop the lawsuit against those North American mess-makers we barely managed to escape from in the first place. I mean, seriously? It’s almost unheard of. Even though everyone keeps talking about how split all our political options are, it feels like right now we’re mostly just stuck with a handful of retiree-led movements. :-)
Better late than never, I guess—though honestly, it was pretty pathetic of me. I actually skipped out last year because the lineup looked so weak, but I ended up showing up this time anyway just to catch Mastodon and Grinderman. Mastodon? They’re just phenomenal, as usual. This was my fifth time seeing them live, and man, those guys don't show any signs of slowing down at all. Also, Alexander... dear god, he really proved once again in his review that his musical taste probably peaks at whatever cold beer he's sipping on, so maybe just skip his takes when it comes to actual music :-)

Nick Cave and Grinderman—that’s where it’s at. Period.

And as for that Dubioza Kolektiv group people rave about? In my opinion, they're just terrible. It’s just a bunch of stupid, forced rhymes, and the music isn't some cool fusion or anything; it’s more like a senseless mess.
The Hangover Part II in Movies ·
I guess this is one of those movies you just put on at home when it's pouring rain outside and you feel like you've already seen everything else there is to see.
Red Sonja Remake in Movies ·
Honestly, I’m kind of leaning towards Monica Bellucci playing her, though I guess that might not be the most realistic choice either... :-)
