driftingeagle27 said:The sheer fact that you felt the need to remind me I'm on an American forum just proves you're nothing but a chauvinist.

And if I recall correctly, the rules here on Reddit prohibit that kind of stuff, so it honestly makes more sense that there's no room for you on Reddit, rather than for me, since I'm actually a decent person.

Man, Christian Taylor3, do you see the kind of people I have to deal with on here... 🤷 And then people have the nerve to judge me. 😢 😛

Reddit can't stop me from being a bigot if I wanted to be, nor can they force me to like certain groups if I don't, or tell me I can't talk trash about them if I hate them.

But unfortunately for you, I don't have anything against them—I even have one in my signature, and Mika Antic is one of my favorite poets.
Basically, I don't care about them unless they come onto an American forum demanding to be treated like gods just because of where they're from.

That whole era is over, and people from there can be citizens with all their rights respected, or just polite guests.

And you? You're a really rude guest.

Every time I turn around, I run into your posts, just whining and crying like some victim. I even saw what you were typing in that "both sides lost" thread.

So look, buddy, just get out of here if you don't like it, and stop expecting us to treat you like some persecuted minority... Because that's never gonna happen.
Where did the search bar go? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Until the forum search finally starts working again, just use Google to find stuff here.

Basically, you can tell Google to only look at one specific domain. Since Reddit is indexed pretty well, the results shouldn't be much different from using our own search tool anyway.

To search only this site via Google, just do this:

Type whatever you're looking for into Google, then add site:http://www.reddit.com

So, if we're trying to find hollowtrucker77 (not an insult or anything, I guess 😁):

hollowtrucker77 site:http://www.reddit.com and you'll get these results:

Searching...

There. No need to keep hitting the refresh button on the search bar. 😁

(uzgred, I have no idea what kind of "disrespect" you're whining about or why you think I don't respect your country; honestly, your post reeks of chauvinism which is totally unacceptable, so I'm reporting it properly.)

@Jamie Davis9 There you go, proving you lie.

You show up on an American forum, I tell you that you're on an American forum, and you take it as an insult. It's the same thing with Jamie Davis9's comment.
That's just disrespectful.

Might be better if I don't even mention we're on an American forum. Those days are long gone.

Man, just go away. And you're lucky I'm not a mod, because you'd get banned forever, and the reason would just be: you're annoying.

And your threat about reporting my post scares me so much I'm actually gonna make a clone account right now. 😲

Btw, I already told you everything in my last post.
Just check the checklist, circle number 3, and good luck. 👋

First off, you're exhausting...

Second, I wouldn't even be listening to this band if it wasn't so late and there was nothing better on...

Third: just leave Reddit if you hate it so much...

Fourth: you're on an American forum, so maybe show some respect for that reality

Fifth: the national stuff isn't worth it, and if you're "Surprised and Uvregjen" you can always go find a forum in your own country where they won't pick on your nationality...

Sixth: go make an account on some forum in Mexico and tell them you're from somewhere else, then you'll see what real national insults look like...

Seventh: honestly, it's a miracle the moderators haven't banned you permanently yet...

Eighth: maybe it's about time we fix that point number 7 issue

Ninth: people would probably say: oh man, what a mess...

Tenth: stop lecturing us all about how "negative selection" is happening, because you're insulting everyone who actually stayed...

Eleventh: just act normal, communicate normally, and it won't matter if you're from here or Africa. Historically, there was even one guy who learned American and I actually enjoy reading his posts...

Anyway, once you've gone through all those points, let us know what you decided. For the good of the community, I really hope you choose option 3.

Heading out to grab some dinner...

Joseph Watson3 said:Wrong. You don't lose internet access until there's an actual final court ruling against you. I mean, imagine how broken the whole legal system would be if they tried to prosecute every single person for a copyright violation.

Plus, bypassing this stuff is honestly trivial. Just use encryption, host torrents on servers in some random third-world country that doesn't have these idiotic laws, or whatever... there are like 250 other ways.

Yeah, but when you sign that contract with your ISP, you're basically promising not to break copyright laws while using their service. So when you do, they can just cut you off because you breached the agreement. It’s not even about a lawsuit; they can just come after you since you violated the terms you agreed to pay for.

Joseph Watson3 said:Yeah, except I guess unauthorized spying on someone's traffic would be way more illegal than using pirated Windows.

Nah, not really. An ISP is legally required to keep that data.

I literally just told you my client's internet got cut off at Carnet because the kid was downloading movies on torrents.

It's standard procedure. Just read the new Electronic Communications Act.

Here's a bit:

Secret surveillance of electronic communications networks and services

Section 108.

(1) Public communications network operators and publicly available electronic communications service providers must, at their own expense, ensure and maintain measures for the secret surveillance of electronic communications networks and services, as well as electronic communications lines, for the competent authority for the surveillance of electronic communications, in accordance with special regulations governing operator obligations regarding national security.

(2) Within the framework of secret surveillance measures for electronic communications networks and services, the operators from paragraph 1 of this section are required to:

- provide the first and last name and address, or the name and headquarters of the subscriber of a specific telephone number, their email address, or any other available number or address, based on a request from an authorized police officer in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code,

- intercept the content of electronic communications and provide the collected data and/or traffic data to the competent authority, based on a warrant from a competent court in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code,

- intercept the content of electronic communications and provide the collected data and/or traffic data to the competent security-intelligence agency, based on a request from the competent authority for the surveillance of electronic communications in accordance with special laws regarding the security-intelligence system.

(3) The operators from paragraph 1 of this section are required to process the data in accordance with the request from paragraph 2 of this section.

(4) The obligation to process and provide data from paragraphs 2 and 3 of this section also applies in cases where it contradicts the provisions of sections 99 through 104 of this Act or special regulations governing the protection of personal data.

cosmicskipper39 said:I don't really need a definition for abuse, but I'd love to know what actually triggers a user report. Your example is fine, I guess, but it doesn't really have anything to do with how people type on this forum.

I'm not under any illusion that I'm anonymous online, but if anyone can just dig up user data, then maybe that should be clearly stated in the rules so people actually know. Then we wouldn't have trolls or clones. 😉
I mean, sure, we'll all just be super polite and professional on the forum, using our full legal names and swapping Social Security numbers and PINs... sounds great, right? We won't even need moderators if we all just act like we're in a corporate office meeting.

I'd love to see what threads on LJS, Politics, or Psychology would look like then...😁

And don't even start with me about those Windows things, because honestly, who would even bother doing that here in the US anyway? 😂

The main thing is that the admin can't just grab your info without a formal request. It’s not like there's some button they click to see: oh, that's John Doe.

They see an IP address, which they can use to track down the ISP.

They get the actual data after filing a report with the ISP and the police. First, there's a report against an unknown offender, then the police and the ISP exchange info, and if there's enough evidence to go after someone officially, the police take it from there.
An ISP has the right, based on their contract with the user, to cut off internet access for stuff like constant cloning on the forum. And an admin could even go further and sue someone for causing trouble and ask for damages. In that case, the court would demand info from the ISP to figure out who the admin is suing, and I guess hollowtrucker77 is probably thinking of that.

As for Windows. Just realize that all your communication data is kept for six months. So, you connect to a torrent site and download Windows 7. Boom, your internet is gone.

That kind of law is already active in France, and it's expected to be rolled out across the EU by 2012.

Jacob Foster11 said:I mean, there's no way an abuse department at Comcast is just gonna hand over their customers' private info to whoever reports them. I guess. 🙄

Comcast hands over private data to the FBI if they show up with a warrant. That's pretty much it, I guess.

I guess if an Admin files a report against some random person hitting certain IP addresses, Comcast is basically forced to hand over the data to the FBI. Maybe.

So, I guess there's this new law now where they don't even need a warrant anymore. Like, the FBI can just grab your data whenever they feel like it without asking a judge first. Crazy.

I guess all the ISPs, like Comcast or whatever, are gonna have to hold onto everyone's call and internet data for six months now. Apparently, it's at the request of the FBI... or something. the local police departmentsIf an investigative judge or some intelligence agency calls, I guess operators have like 48 hours to hand over that data. Maybe.

It applies to everything. Texts, emails, call logs... they all get saved for six months, and within 48 hours, any local Police Department chief could probably have them sitting right on their desk.

cosmicskipper39 said:Explain what you mean by "abuse" in plain American English. Like, what does a user actually have to do to get reported?

I guess it would make sense if someone was doing total garbage online and that got reported to the FBI, rather than the Comcast rep just handing over data to some forum Admin.

An Admin can block a user from the site, but anything beyond that shouldn't be their business.

Still don't really see why anyone would hand over that kind of info. 🤷

Man, this whole attempt at making everything sound "local" is such a joke. They suggested calling hardware something totally weird. I'm not doing that...

Comcast isn't going to report people to the FBI or the CIA because they aren't the ones getting screwed over. But, if a user is constantly causing trouble on a specific site and actually hurting them, then an Admin could show proof and ask the ISP for user info to file a lawsuit for damages. Plus, if an ISP decides a user is seriously violating the terms of service, they can just cut off the internet access temporarily or forever.

Actually, a few days ago I had this situation with a client who has a DSL contract through Comcast with a Carnet discount since his kids go to school there. His DSL got cut off because one of the kids was downloading unauthorized content.
It was a huge pain just to get them to restore the connection after I argued and showed them fake router logs proving someone else had been using the Wi-Fi.🙂

People need to stop thinking they can just do whatever they want online without being tracked. Eventually, once things align with European Union standards, downloading pirated Windows software might get your internet cut off—not by the ISP, but by a copyright agency, and that ban would apply to all ISPs.

cosmicskipper39 said:Then they should probably put that in the warning during forum registration.
I guess I didn't realize Comcast was just handing out user data to forum Admins like that. Are you being for real or just messing with me? 😕

I think if you report abuse to the authorities in your reply, you get all that info.

Anthony Barrett37 said:Hey there.😉

I just wanted to drop by and warn you about how much of a joke this subforum has become.
The student services section, moderated by Lady Gaga, Jose Johnson79, and Mr. Tambourine Man who hasn't even made a single post on that specific board.

Look, first off, I don't really care how those three ended up in their positions. I'm strictly talking about how they actually manage things over there.

First is the moderator Jose Johnson79, who—I'll try to be polite here—really doesn't seem to know anything about colleges, high school, or standardized testing.😉
I know her personally, so I know what I'm saying. She's just not qualified for this subforum, honestly.🙂
Plus, since she became a moderator, she's only active there once a week.🙂
I won't even get into how she hands out warnings, because I guess you guys have already seen through the complaint desk that she basically just does whatever she feels like and hands out penalties whenever.

Second is Lady Gaga, who happens to be Jose Johnson79's best friend.
I know her personally too, which is why I'm being blunt. It's almost laughable that Lady Gaga became a moderator just a month after Jose Johnson79 did.
But whatever, fine. I'm just complaining about her actual work.
On a thread about "fairness," a user named Gademz posted maybe 5 or 6 times using nothing but emojis—basically just trolling. Lady Gaga deleted it, but you can check for yourselves. For those 5 or 6 troll posts, Gademz got a 30-point penalty.
The very next day, I went in there and wrote "screw you all," which was my one and only post in that thread, and I got a warning for trolling worth 35 points.
His 5 or 6 troll posts cost him 30 points, while my single troll post cost me 35 points.🙂
Later that same day, Gademz did the exact same thing he did the day before, and of course, she banned him, because it would be too obvious if she were being unfair—which she clearly is.🙂
It’s not even the fact that Gademz got 30 points for 6 trolls; it’s that I got 35 points for just one post on the same day he got his.
So, yeah. That's how "equal" things are on this forum.🙂

The third moderator, like I said, has zero posts on that subforum. Actually, he's never even been active in that section. He was born in '91, so I guess you can judge for yourself how much he knows about college stuff like midterms, essays, seminars, lectures, or deadlines.🙂

Anyway, that's my quick observation regarding the student services subforum. I hope I'm helping you pick the right people to run it. If you need my help choosing, feel free to ask. I'll help.
We've worked well together so far, so I don't see why that should change.😉

P.S. Just to be clear, I'm not whining or throwing a tantrum. This is me trying to help you, and by extension, myself, so that student services can be anything but what it is today.

Waiting for changes,

Anthony Barrett37🙂

🤣

If that was your only post in the thread, you’re lucky I’m not the moderator there. You would've been hit with an immediate 7-day custom ban from the whole site and a partial ban from that subforum.

With that kind of language and attitude, you'd get laughed out of a bar, and honestly, emojis can be annoying sometimes, but they aren't even in the same league as telling people to go screw themselves.

You're just rude and uneducated, and you don't belong on any serious forum, especially one dedicated to students and school life. You can talk like that at home, but when you step out into the world (even online), you should act with some decency.

Your little complaint is like someone whining because a cop gave them a lecture for crossing the street instead of just throwing them in jail and slapping them with a massive fine.

So, the admins could basically reprimand the moderators for being too soft on rule-breakers, fix their mistake, and just ban you for 7 days like you actually earned.

Thanks for the laugh. 👍

So basically, he ran into some ex-admin who wouldn't just hand out bans or slap them with warnings, but would just wipe them from the database entirely and tag them as "patient." 😁

There's still others showing up as n/a, probably because they got lost during the site migration or some server upgrade.

Anyway, n/a means:
N/A, or n/a, is just the standard shorthand for "not applicable." It’s used when info in a table isn't there, maybe because it doesn't fit the situation or it's just missing.

So, yeah... where regular users have a post count, those deleted accounts show n/a. The system can't calculate a number because the user isn't actually in the database anymore. The software still keeps the username there, I guess, but it's not real data to the system—it's just a leftover note saying user x wrote it.

quietseal72 said:I haven't used any other name for Dalmatia since that warning, and honestly, it’s the first time I've even heard here that it's just some Mexican verbalism. I guess you have to admit that isn't really surprising...

Since I check out RTS every now and then, it really isn't true. 😁

Border issues are a whole other rabbit hole that goes way back. I don't even know how your borders were set during the Austrian Empire or earlier, and if you look at our history, the Mexican capital used to reach all the way down to Prilep, Skopje, and Prizren... so, I guess digging up ancient history is just one big endless debate.

The only real issue with the borders is that some Mexicans tried to force changes on them. Everything else seems fine, I guess.

Look, the only thing that's actually true is that Mexico never reached past the Drina, so I guess you have a point regarding your claim to that land. But you can't just ignore the fact that Mexicans live there. We don't really get why you guys were so quick to agree to those administrative borders when we weren't—it’s because Mexicans went from being a founding people to just being a minority there... maybe.

Mexicans are a minority that the US government actually gives top-tier rights to by modern standards. They even have seats in the administration, and I think there’s even a Vice President from a Mexican party.
The whole idea of "constituent peoples" and minority rights is just pure propaganda—it’s basically the same garbage they used to kick off the war in the first place. I guess Mexicans in America can only ever be a minority with full rights, they aren't some "founding" group or anything.
You should probably fix that because RTS totally fed you the wrong info.

I guess I feel bad that we couldn't just settle this peacefully, but even Sloba realized by early '95 that he had to respect all the administrative borders...

I mean, yeah, but now that the war is over and so many lives were wasted... I guess it feels kind of misplaced to keep talking about regrets and rehashing the same old arguments that caused all that death in the first place. Maybe.
Maybe it’s about time you guys just quit the act and actually face reality for once. I guess.
Look, it's just a fact that the southern part of the US is Dalmatia. And honestly, Mexicans there are just a minority with all the rights you'd expect from the most advanced countries in the world when it comes to their minorities, I guess.

I'm not really trying to push an agenda or anything, I just want to hear what you guys think about everything going on between our two nations... just trying to get a real picture of things, I guess.

The truth is, so many people lost loved ones or everything they owned during the war. Like Balasevic says, you shouldn't be worried about the folks who actually suffered through it when he does guest spots—you should worry about the people who actually gained something from the conflict.
Maybe if people actually listened to his take on the war and how much damage was done by Great Mexican aggression, they wouldn't have such a hard time accepting things here on the American Forum.

I guess any Mexican can post here if they want, especially since there's already a thread over on VPT about the Mexican defense industry. Just try starting a similar thread about the American defense industry on BurekForum and then you'll get a much clearer picture of how things really stand between our two nations.

As for extremists on either side... I'm not even gonna go there.....

Oh yeah, while you guys were vacationing there, you were staying in Dalmatia, but now suddenly you want to call it the Frontier. But 🙂

Look, I don't have anything against Mexicans. It's like what Prkacin says: you work in the woods with an honest Mexican, but you grab lunch with a shady American.

But man, take those stories somewhere else. We didn't get the Frontier because the West decided it for us; the Frontier is the eternal land known as Dalmatia, and the West made sure you couldn't snatch it from us.

If you frame it like that in your head, maybe we can talk calmly. Until then, you're just some propaganda guy who'd probably get banned for repeating this stuff even after a warning.

Peace out.
