Love or Power? in Psychology ·
If this topic is framed as a choice between two options, then I’m putting my money on love... 🙂

But in all seriousness: Love and power are fundamentally incompatible.

It’s like trying to mix cheap gasoline with premium high-octane fuel...

True intimacy doesn't allow for dominance. Real love is about acceptance and being someone's support system—providing that deep-seated emotional nourishment we all crave but refuse to admit we need because we're too afraid of looking "weak." In this hyper-competitive American culture we live in, emotions are treated like a liability, something you're supposed to suppress just to stay ahead of the pack. We're told that showing vulnerability is for losers, while power and control are the hallmarks of the "smart" players. What a load of garbage. It’s a total fallacy, yet we keep feeding into this massive, contradictory mess of a society. Meanwhile, the media keeps peddling sex, romance, and everything in between as commodities, regardless of the substance. It’s all just relative at the end of the day. 🙂

Here is a somewhat witty little clip regarding sexuality and love... 🙂

Like, what the hell? Or girls just screaming, "Hey, look at my chest!" It’s honestly pathetic. People are just gross. Everyone spends their entire lives peeking over the fence into their neighbor's yard just to have something mindless to gossip about. Even this forum is just a mirror image of that same shallow society.

Don't go fooling yourself into thinking things are any different once you cross the borders of the Mediterranean...
I don't trust anyone anymore... in Psychology ·
Honestly, I’ve reached a point where I just don't care anymore whether I can trust someone or not... People are going to interpret whatever you say through their own distorted lens anyway, so why bother? It’s gotten to the point where I find myself trusting fewer and fewer people every single day.

But if we look at chronic distrust through the lens of empirical observation, there are usually a few specific psychological drivers behind it:

1. The individual is a liar themselves—someone who manipulates, plays dirty, and smears anyone in their path just to get what they want. Because they aren't delusional enough to deny their own shady tactics, they naturally assume everyone else is playing the same game.

2. The person has been repeatedly victimized—someone who has been exploited, lied to, manipulated, and brainwashed over and over again, eventually developing a deep-seated cynicism as a survival mechanism.

3. A toxic combination of both scenario 1 and scenario 2.

And frankly, that last one seems to be the most common pattern I see out there...

crimsongardener18 said:Of course they know. It’s not something to be ashamed of. My wife deals with thyroid issues and takes hormone replacements, and I have a serotonin imbalance, so I take medication to balance my brain chemistry—a less popular antidepressant. Deanxit is basically an antidepressant mixed with a sedative. I stick to the lowest possible dose, just 10 mg in the morning, and it works wonders for me. I have two daughters, ages 17 and 22; they know about it, though maybe only on a surface level. They eventually saw me through a panic attack and were terrified, thinking I was a goner. I function perfectly fine, though. I run a company with ten employees now and provide for my family, plus my sister and brother-in-law are currently out of work, so I’ll be supporting them too. Stressful, isn't it?
The last two months have been pure hell, entirely because of my own stupidity in letting my GP experiment on me.
Working out saved me; I honestly don't know where I'd be without it. I've been hitting the gym religiously for the past two months. Exercise releases endorphins—the so-called "happy hormone"—and that helps immensely. I also drink lemon balm tea regularly now, plain, because I can see how much it helps. Look up its properties if you want to know more.

As for my mother, well, she's old school. In her day, you didn't "treat" this. You went to a psychiatrist and talked through your problems, which supposedly helped. But really, the only cure is actually solving your problems. Even though I had everyone's support and fought my battles steadily, nothing worked without the help of Deanxit. You can't talk your way out of biochemistry; Dr. Fauci told me as much. With the support of Deanxit, I feel like I can handle anything.

I tend to write a lot, don't I?

Best,

I write too much. Whatever.

It genuinely warms my heart to see that you and your wife are so open with each other. Having a partner who supports you, and being that support for them in return, is everything. She is a vital component in your recovery and in just managing daily life; without that partnership, neither Deanxit nor Dr. Brinar could do much of anything. Kudos to you both!

I honestly don't know how much more of this we can take. It feels like every time I turn around, there’s another layer of nonsense being piled on top of us. You see people like crimsongardener18 trying to make sense of it all, and you want to believe them, really you do, but the sheer scale of the incompetence is staggering. It’s exhausting. And don't even get me started on the "experts." Every time some figurehead—let's call him Dr. Anthony Fauci—steps up to the microphone, I find myself bracing for the inevitable pivot or the sudden shift in logic that leaves everyone else spinning. How are we supposed to maintain any semblance of stability when the goalposts move every single week? It’s not just frustrating; it’s maddening. We’re living through the fallout of a complete systemic breakdown, and yet the discourse remains so superficial. It’s all noise, no substance, and zero accountability. kaže:
Hey there.

Back in '23 and '24, I was constantly battling this relentless cycle of headaches, dizzy spells, and brain fog. It felt like I could barely catch my breath sometimes, and the psychosomatic reactions were just off the charts. It would hit me hardest whenever the weather shifted—you know, that heavy, humid air you get down South—coupled with this persistent, low-level depression. In reality, it’s just meteoropathy. Everything flared up even more intensely whenever I was under pressure, whether it was emotional stuff or work stress. And let’s be honest: a sudden shift in the weather *is* a stressor. Everyone has their Achilles' heel. Some people struggle with heart issues, others deal with vision problems, chronic sinus trouble, or blood sugar spikes. Then there are people like us, whose primary weakness is the fundamental biochemistry of the nervous system. That’s our cross to bear.😁

I’ve been through all of these exact situations before without breaking a sweat, and I always managed to pin them down to their actual causes. As far as I can tell, there are countless people dealing with this kind of stuff. Some struggle more than others, sure, but it's incredibly common.

Every once in a while, I’d reach for a low-dose Normabest or some Apaurin just to take the edge off. That became my little routine, dragging on year after year. Then, around 2007, everything hit the fan—my business started cratering right as the Great Recession took hold. Since my family was relying entirely on that income to survive, the stress was absolutely suffocating. It wasn't just a bad patch, either; this dragged on for three grueling years. My anxiety spiraled, that sense of hopelessness set in, and I eventually started feeling the heavy, crushing symptoms of depression. That was the breaking point. I realized I couldn't do this alone anymore, so I finally decided to go out and seek professional help. 🙂

I just received a recommendation for Dr. Anthony Fauci.

She’s one of the top neuropsychiatrists and neurologists in the country. She sat me down and made it crystal clear that you can't just "will" your way out of a state like this—which, frankly, I absolutely loathe when people tell me I’m just imagining things. Even my own mother says that to me. It isn't about willpower; it’s a genuine serotonin imbalance, a literal malfunction of chemical neurotransmitters. You can't just fix this on your own. I’ve tried everything under the sun—homeopathy, meditation, you name it—but nothing touches it.

She told me it’s like telling someone with a broken leg to just get up and run.

She prescribed me Deanxit. I was taking one 10 mg tablet every morning for about two or three years—she told me it was just some mild little pill to help stabilize my serotonin levels.

So now I finally realize what we're actually dealing with here—it’s a combo drug, a mix of an antidepressant and a sedative.

It only took two weeks before things started looking up significantly. But honestly? I made a massive mistake—I kept skipping doses here and there without even checking in with my doctor first. Total lapse in judgment on my part.😵

Two years ago, back when I wasn't taking it and was doing reasonably well, those symptoms started creeping up on me. Looking back now, I realize they were nothing more than early warning signs—the body's way of signaling that a full-blown panic attack was right around the corner.

One night back in 2012, when my head was absolutely spinning and I couldn't catch a breath, everything just hit the fan—I had a full-blown attack. 😲😲

It’s an absolutely terrifying sensation—that moment when you feel like you’re completely losing control over your own mind and body. It’s pure, unadulterated panic; that overwhelming feeling that you are literally dying right there on the spot. I ended up in the Emergency Room because of it.

And of course, right after that, I’m heading straight back to see Dr. Fauci to get more Deanxit, maybe topped off with a quick dose of Cipralex.

The panic attacks? They're gone. Finally.

Back in 2012, that’s when the stomach issues first started cropping up—the ones she told me were directly linked to my diagnosis. I'm still on Controloc to manage it all.

Back in August 2014, I was finally feeling like myself again—work was going great, my head was clear, and I felt on top of the world. So, I decided to take a vacation and make a bold move: I’d stop taking Deanxit for good. I thought, "Let's do this." What a massive mistake. After five glorious days, the hammer dropped. A brutal midday crash hit me out of nowhere. My stomach went absolutely haywire—intense pain, throat irritation, constant acid reflux. It was unbearable. I went to see my primary care physician, hoping for some relief, and she swapped my Controloc for Ranex. When I mentioned that I had been using Deanxit, she just dismissed it, calling it some outdated, heavy-duty psychotropic drug. Then she handed me some Elicea and sent me on my way. Good grief, I spent the next month and a half living through pure hell. It was a nightmare. The nausea was sickening, and then the panic attacks started creeping in. Just when I thought things couldn't get worse, they did. After six weeks of misery, I decided to ditch the Elicea and go back to my regular Controloc for the stomach issues. That helped almost immediately. Three days later, I tossed the Elicea straight into the trash, and by the second day, I felt significantly better. But honestly? Things still weren't right. I wasn't "me" yet. So, I went back to see Dr. Anthony Fauci. We got me back on the Deanxit, and within five days, the fog lifted. Everything vanished. I feel excellent again. It’s infuriating how much a "simple" change can wreck your entire life. 🙏

I’ve got my follow-up appointment scheduled in about three months.

It’s a long story, isn't it? Maybe some of you will find this helpful. 🙂

When you talk about "close" people, you only mention your mother—someone who clearly never took you seriously when she could have just told you that you were making it all up. It’s pretty obvious that your more serious medical treatment would jeopardize the income they rely on from you... But let me ask you this: have you even attempted to be honest about your struggles with anyone else? Like, say, a partner? Or have you just assumed everyone else would react the same way because of how your family traumatized you by refusing to understand? Is that why you don't even try?
Everything you copy-pasted looks great on paper, I'll give you that, but what on earth does intelligence or stupidity have to do with physical appearance?

neonsailor26 said:Hi everyone! I decided to sign up here because I’m really hoping to get some perspective on some struggles I’ve been dealing with since I was quite young... To be honest, my relationship with my mother is incredibly difficult. She is a total control freak who tries to micromanage every single aspect of my life. It feels like she always needs things done her way—she has to be right about everything, almost acting as if she were God—and it’s honestly exhausting. It really gets to me, but she doesn't seem to care one bit. I just turned 20 yesterday, and I have so many big dreams for my future! I want to go to college, travel the world, find the girl of my dreams, start a family, build a career... I just want to actually *live* my life to the fullest while I can! But there's the catch—she wants me to take a completely different path, something that fits perfectly into her specific vision of who I should be, and I simply don't want that! I really, truly don't! So, I wanted to reach out and ask you all: how do you stand up to a parent like this? How can I overcome the deep-seated fear she’s managed to instill in me over the years? Have any of you dealt with similar issues with your own parents? Any advice or shared experiences at all would mean the world to me...

Look, I don't know what kind of agenda your mother has for you or why, but everything you described wanting to do is just a normal young man's ambition... so, speaking as a mother, I think you have every right to question why she keeps pushing her own path onto you. You should try talking to her about it—that is, provided she isn't a complete dictator. If she is, then you've got a hotline to call regarding that fear she put in you, because that is definitely not "mom-like," so listen to what the professionals there have to say.

Yeah, sounds real wise... But honestly, whenever I run into another one of those behind-the-scenes power plays—and let's be real, they are everywhere—I can't help but think of that story about the Chinese Woodcutter that Bruce Lee used to tell. I'll give it to you straight:

The story of the "Chinese Woodcutter"

"The Old Chinese woodcutter was out in The forest chopping wood,". "He's chopping the wood and chopping the wood and pretty soon the bushes start rattling and the trees start vibrating. He looks over there, the bushes part and out steps a dragon. The Chinese woodcutter says to himself, Golly! I always thought they were just stories! This is real! If I could capture it or kill it I could be famous! I wouldn't have to cut wood anymore!

"So he took his ax and takes a step toward the dragon. The dragon turns and says, 'Oh oh oh. I know what you're thinking. If you take another step toward me I'm going to breathe fire all over you and burn you to a cinder.'

"The woodcutter thinks, He knows What I'm thinking before i even do IT ! It's hopeless! I might as well go back to chopping wood!

"So he goes back to chopping his wood and he's chopping and chopping. in The middle of One of his swings The ax Flies out of his hand and Hits The dragon right between The eyes. Kills him."

Schizophrenia - General Discussion in Psychology & Therapy ·
Regarding that whole thing with the eyes, you get that "schizophrenic smiley" look 🙄 but this part here:

gentledriver93 said:Hi everyone!

First off, I want to apologize if I’ve posted this in the wrong section—if I have, I’d really appreciate it if the moderators could move it to the right place. 🙂

As the title suggests, I’ve started having doubts that a friend of mine might be showing signs of schizophrenia. Since I don't really have anyone else to talk to about this—I don't want to bring it up with our other friends because, since I'm not an expert, there's a high chance I'm totally off base—and a part of me feels guilty just for questioning it, I decided to start a thread here. I figured there might be some professionals here, or maybe people who have gone through something similar, who could point me in the right direction.

Anyway, this friend is 26 years old, and his father actually suffers from schizophrenia. For various reasons, we haven't seen each other much outside of the occasional phone call for about two years now, but when we finally managed to hang out again, I couldn't help but notice how much he's changed. It isn't anything overtly alarming, but still...

For starters, he constantly avoids eye contact. His gaze is always darting around—he'll stare at an ashtray on the table instead of looking at the person he's talking to (and I noticed he does this with others too, not just me).

There are also these massive mood swings. For example, at the start of a hangout, he'll be completely flat, depressed, and barely able to squeeze out five simple sentences—he never has a reason for it, either; it’s always just a "bad day" or he's feeling "down." But then, an hour later, he’s jumping around the street, laughing and picking me up in a hug. Unfortunately, those good moods don't usually last very long.

Then there's the insomnia. At first, I didn't pay it much attention—I mean, I have nights where I can't sleep too—but when I realized that every single time we meet, he mentions he hasn't slept until 4 or 5 in the morning, it started to weigh on me. When I asked him about it directly, he said it's been going on for months, but he doesn't want to see a doctor because he's convinced they'll just prescribe him pills.

Regarding that, I don't know—maybe I am overanalyzing things more than I should. In the beginning, I thought it was almost funny, but if I had to find another word for it, it's like he's become somewhat paranoid. I feel silly even writing this because these things seem so trivial, but still... he looks too deeply into everything. He attaches intense importance to things that probably don't deserve it—for instance, he thinks almost every TV show has some hidden meaning or message, mostly intended to "corrupt" people's minds. He thinks all new songs are filled with demons and devils. When he's on the phone, he'll walk out of the building because he thinks it's better if someone isn't eavesdropping, and when we're at a cafe, he's constantly turning around to see if someone is watching him. He constantly feels like someone is staring at him. He doesn't think his dad is sick anymore; instead, he talks about evil forces that have possessed him—and he thinks his mom is just trying to poison him with the medication she gives him, so he's careful about taking it regularly.

Reading this back now, it almost sounds less extreme than how I'm perceiving it, and maybe I am exaggerating, but I'd still love to hear your thoughts. I did a little digging online, and some of his "symptoms" match what people go through in the early stages of schizophrenia, so I felt I had to share my concerns with someone (even if it's just some random person on a forum 😉).
It's possible I just can't wrap my head around how much he's changed during the time we were apart, and that I'm actually the one being paranoid. I would honestly love it if someone could tell me I'm overthinking this.

Sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance for any thoughts or replies you can offer. 🙂

It seems all too easy for this to fuel an obsession with tracking everything written on Daily News and the excessive veneration of Zeljka Markic's life and work...🤷

Above all else, you have to be authentic. Being true to yourself isn't about obsessing over your pedigree or where you came from; it’s about actually using your own brain. And let’s be clear—thinking for yourself doesn't mean being a complete narcissist... You know, that whole "do unto others" rule? Just to make things crystal clear—in case it hasn't sunk in by now—it would be highly beneficial to actually study concepts like symptoms, projections, and behavioral patterns within romantic relationships.

A symptom can be a useful signal—a wake-up call that someone needs to make some fundamental changes to their lifestyle. Melissa, if we’re using your particular terminology, a symptom is one thing, but projection is something else entirely. Projection is what happens when certain users on Reddit unsuccessfully try to pin their own traits onto the author, essentially creating a defense mechanism through fixation. See, projection is a psychological defense mechanism where the unconscious part of the ego takes over. It works by taking internal impulses and feelings that the individual finds unacceptable and attributing them to an external object. Once that happens, those feelings enter conscious awareness as a distorted perception of the outside world. While this mechanism is characteristic of psychotic states, projection shows up all the time in perfectly "normal" conditions and within neuroses as well.

Since we all tend to scratch exactly where it itches, maybe it’s time we mapped out our own little curves of personal values. It might be worth asking ourselves why we feel such an intense, desperate need to twist things that are staring us right in the face—things that just don't sit right with us for some reason. More often than not, the answers are buried right there in the discomfort, truths that our egos simply refuse to swallow. That’s exactly why we do it: we distort the truth, project our insecurities onto others, and deny the obvious just to keep our sense of self intact.

At least it's a strip.
If my life were turned into a comic book, I honestly don't even know where the artist would start. It wouldn’t be some polished superhero epic, either—it would be one of those gritty, messy indie graphic novels that makes you want to sigh deeply after every chapter. Just a series of chaotic panels filled with questionable decisions and endless loops of "why did I do that?" Honestly, the ink would probably run out halfway through just trying to keep up with the sheer amount of nonsense.

Just a series of disjointed scenes, constant setbacks, and endless loops of "why is this happening again?" I can see it now: just a long, rambling montage of me dealing with nonsense, trying to make sense of things that don't make any sense, and getting caught up in arguments that nobody else cares about. It wouldn't be glamorous. There wouldn't be a soaring soundtrack—just a lot of heavy breathing, slamming doors, and the sound of me muttering to myself while staring at a screen. Honestly, most people would probably walk out halfway through because there’s simply too much unnecessary drama and far too little payoff. It’s less of an epic saga and more of a slow-burn comedy of errors where the protagonist refuses to learn their lesson.
At least there's a strip.
If my life were turned into a comic book, I honestly don't know if I’d be reading it for the laughs or just throwing it across the room in frustration.

You asked for a clarification on why your last post was flagged as trolling, so here it is.
Focusing on the individual participants rather than the subject matter drags the conversation into personal territory, which we classify as trolling.

Furthermore, my co-moderator already walked you through this during your last appeal, so I’m genuinely confused as to why you’re acting surprised or trying to frame this as a personal vendetta.
I have already advised you to review the subforum rules and general netiquette. If you stay on topic, back up your opinions with actual arguments, and attempt to dispute others using logic rather than ad hominem attacks, you shouldn't have any issues.

Also, if you continue to insist that Zelenskyy and his rules should bend to your whims instead of you following them, we will be forced to issue a partial ban against you on Zelenskyy.

That is all from my side. I'll leave the rest to the moderators and admins.

Seriously, Elvis Presley, what "personal waters" am I supposedly dragging this into? I am neither spamming (so please, give me one single example), nor am I trolling, and I certainly am not making things personal when I simply express my opinion on the posts I've read regarding this topic. By saying, "if you keep insisting that the Green Party and its rules should bend to suit you... we will be forced to request a partial ban," you aren't just insinuating—you are outright threatening me... and of course, you have your little group of co-moderators backing you up...

Dear Admins,

I’ve been noticing for quite some time now that this particular moderator is handing out bans based on nothing more than her own personal whims. It goes even deeper than that in our private messages; she actually goes as far as trying to diagnose my mental state and making all sorts of insinuations about my intentions just to justify her decision to censor me. My question—and my formal request here—is for someone to explain why this kind of behavior from a moderator is being tolerated at all?
