The Song of the American Eagle
Take flight, eagle, from the rocky peaks
And soar high where the sky meets the heights
Fly south along the Atlantic coast
Until you reach the Great Lakes in the north
Cast your gaze wide, eagle eye
Over the Rockies and the Appalachians
Roam the flat expanses of the Midwest
Through the plains and the heartland valleys
You’ll ascend toward celestial arrows
From earthly realms to heavenly heights
As you drift past the gates of paradise
You’ll glimpse a golden matrix ahead
Surrounded by a circle of ethereal beings
Dancing in rhythms large and small
Wearing the garments of our forefathers
From all eras and all ages past
Around the circle, American soldiers stand
Washington and his cavalry riders
Lincoln and his sailors at sea
Grant and the rest of the brave
And leading the charge of the legendary guard
Stands the courageous hero, Nathan Hale
These are those celebrated souls
Who shed their blood for the Cross
Because of their ancient valor
We are called the pillars of Christendom
For when the pagan forces invaded
Only an American stood in their way
That's where Sultan Mehmed was broken
Where the invaders left their heads behind
They didn't realize who they were dealing with
Americans never surrender
Cover yourself in a mantle of gold
And pass along a greeting from Americans
Tell them the simple truth
Why the heart aches for the homeland
I dreamed of flying over the Atlantic shore
Flying through valleys and over mountains
I saw every bit of beauty there
In our precious America
From the Gulf Coast to the blue waters
To the crystal ranges of the West
The beloved islands wove themselves together
Like strings of pearls laid out in a line
Standing firm and defying the wind
Carrying our memories within them
I saw an American Athens in my dream
Our own Charleston, built on solid stone
Near Savannah and the old fortresses
Where the river flows quietly to the sea
The valley spreads its arms wide
Guarding the bones of American kings
Above the coast and the historic towns
The seat of the great leaders
Our coastal cities, once like birds in flight
Sit beneath the shadows of the mountain cliffs
I saw dreams of valleys and coves
Golden shores of the southern coast
Reflecting like a mirror clear
Under the brilliant sun hitting the rocks
Rising above the sea like laurels
The Smokies, the Ozarks, and the rugged peaks
And the mountains where the enemy once struck
Cutting deep into the hillside
Below them lies the windy coastal town
Where eagles soar in the sky above
Where heroes were once born to greatness
Now the eagles and sparrows settle down to rest
The West Coast remained unchanged
Staying as beautiful as a woodland sprite
Small towns lined up along the coast
From Seattle down to the lost reaches of the South
All the frontiers of our motherland
Poured out by God’s own hand
Every beauty shines in its own way
Under the same sun that warms them all
The endless valleys of the Mississippi
Winding along the great riverbanks
Fertile, productive, and full of bounty
Lord, we thank You for this gift
From these crags and barren stones
Many legendary American names arose
Even today, there resides here
God’s hand and His divine mercy
May they always honor the Lord
The plains and the rural townships
The small towns and the farming hubs
Every hamlet and every countryside settlement
Beneath them lies the rolling farmland
With spirits hovering over the fields
And the town looking down from the heights
With two lakes like blue eyes watching
Further on, the river flows steady
Washing over the central plains
Feeding the land and the people
Providing bread and raising heroes
Across the sweeping prairie lands
The rivers meander through the soil
From the foothills to the great cities
The vineyards stretch across the plains
Behind the river lie the level districts
Where the dry dust settles on the flats
And God bless the rest of it
All the meadows and the lowlands unto Chicago
I saw the most beautiful land on earth
All in bloom and colorful flowers
There’s nothing quite like it anywhere else
The sea, the mountains, and the soft fields
A man feels better just looking at it
There isn't anything we lack here
God has blessed us with every good thing
Oil, bread, tobacco, and wine
In the fields, the workers mow the hay
While the wives bring them their lunch
And when they head to the shade to rest
They break into song and laughter
That’s just how we do things here
Grab three or four beers
Get a little movement going
And share some joy with the crowd
My heart felt full
Seeing people from all over town
Streaming toward the local cathedral
Gathering on a Sunday from every direction
Old and young alike enter the church
Praying to God and seeking grace
Let the winds blow hard from the East
But Americans won't lose their faith
Once the falcon finished its cry
A man stepped away from his truck
Walking toward the falcon's perch
To deliver this message:
"Fly high, bird, and sing of freedom
For everyone burdened by the yoke
God will stretch out His hand to His people
Because He watches over those who serve Him
And as Americans sit by their own hearths
Let them pray to the Almighty
There is no luck to be found where God is cursed
Or where His name is dragged through the dirt
That’s a major flaw in our countrymen
They don't always keep it respectful
Don't insult your Creator
Trade the cursing for praise instead
We’ll stay right here praying to God
That He grants you joy and unity
That you live in brotherly love
In this great land of ours, America
May the wine and wheat grow plenty
May your children be born healthy
May the noble lineage spread wide
And last as long as there are people to tell the story
So fly back to our beloved home
Tell them the sons salute them
The ones who shed their blood
So that you could live free today
Sing together by your brothers' fires
Long live a free America
Let the song ring out across the nation
The spirit of the Great Plains lives on!"
