It is somewhat interesting, I suppose, that the vast majority of the selections in this thread consist of scenes from movies released in the last century. One might wonder if it implies that modern directors simply lack much in the way of imagination. 😁
This is essentially just a comparison between pears and apples, except there are far more pears being discussed, while the apples are being unnecessarily hated on. It feels like a failed topic to me, I guess.
It’s true, I suppose, that newer generations are growing up with entirely different types of entertainment, so they probably don't even miss the concept of a board game. I had always personally viewed the movie Zathura: A Space Adventure (2005) as being some sort of unofficial sequel to the original.

Honestly, if you ask me, the 1994 Stargate is hands down the absolute best one out there! I mean, can we even debate that? It just hits different, right?
Man, I’m telling you, *The Patriot* is honestly just as solid! I’m seriously torn between those two, though—it’s a tough call, isn't it?
I haven't actually sat down to watch Midway (2019) yet!
Look, we all understand the concept of a gate, but here in America, the title is just known as "Stargate."
Personally, I consider it his absolute best work. I remember when it first hit theaters back in the 90s; they were practically advertising it on TV as the biggest adventure since Star Wars. 😁 It’s quite simply a classic sci-fi adventure, the kind of thing I could easily sit down and watch again today without any hesitation. I guess you could say time hasn't managed to touch it.
Look, I apologize if I was just being unclear when I put this poll together. I didn't have any ulterior motives or hidden agendas here, so mistyotter35, you can toss that idea of me being difficult right out the window.
What I meant to convey was that if you wanted a discussion regarding cultural taxation, then you really ought to open a thread specifically for that. Similarly, if the goal is to talk about military expenditures, then opening a dedicated topic would make things perfectly clear. You were referencing one specific article where the conversation started on one subject but eventually veered off into another, and I guess that is simply how the thread drifted.

If you're a believer, your money goes to the church. So where's the "cover-up" or the targeting of the church? I personally don't want my money going to the church... I honestly think you don't even realize what's naive or manipulative about your own argument; you're just blindly clinging to an idea you clearly don't fully grasp...
It is precisely as I previously stated. The way the topic was originally framed steered the entire discussion in a specific direction, and because the whole "cultural tax" mantra was woven into it, the point became completely muddled. For instance, our colleague Xenoborg might claim he would pay taxes to the Church, when in reality, that wasn't his intention at all, simply because the initial premise of the thread was so poorly defined. Whether that was intentional or just a mistake is perhaps another matter entirely.
It all seems quite obvious to me; this feels like nothing more than a thin veil for some kind of cultural tax, though I suppose they had to target religious institutions specifically to ensure the narrative keeps pushing in that particular direction. It’s just incredibly naive and underhanded. A topic for 🙂
I consider this nation my homeland, though I suppose one might argue it has been under the occupation of a treasonous state apparatus from the year 2000 until the present day.
It’s quite simple, really; I suppose you just ignore the local American networks for a few days, switch over to satellite, and watch the games or movies there... That seems to work perfectly fine for me, and I don't find myself getting worked up about it at all.
If you're watching on a laptop, honestly, all that converting is just a massive waste of time, and frankly, I suspect it even degrades the video quality. Just watch your movies using VLC Media Player (the portable version) and stop stressing yourself out with all that unnecessary converting, encoding, and whatnot.
redgull8 said:...So, I downloaded an entire season of this show, and while half the episodes are in AVI format and handle subtitles just fine, the last five are MP4s. For some reason, none of them will accept any subtitles I try to load, regardless of which ones I download and apply, so I’m looking to convert them back to AVI. As I mentioned before, when I try to run the conversion, everything seems to work correctly, except that since I'm using a trial version, the software cuts the video off after about two minutes.
I suppose you still haven't actually specified what media player you're using to watch the series, because it's entirely possible that this issue could be resolved without having to go through the whole encoding process.
To be perfectly honest, I find myself wondering what the actual point of re-encoding everything into HD Video is. I mean, if one intends to watch these files on a standard DVD player, they won't support HD Video anyway, so I suppose it leads me to question what device anyone actually plans to use if they feel the need to convert an .mp4 into an .avi file in the first place.

I suppose it is considered "civilized" nowadays to justify wartime and postwar atrocities, while constantly labeling one's political opponents as fascists, Nazis, or thugs? I guess that’s what passes for civility these days. 🙂
