What's your go-to water brand? in Health ·
Get some water from the well! 🙂
Huge hairball! in Health ·
Just rip them out with some tweezers and call it a day! Honestly, they’ll just grow back anyway. So what? It's really not that big of a deal...
OB/GYN recommendations? in Health ·
restlesspilot32 said:Does anyone have a recommendation for a solid gynecologist? I don't mind paying for a private doctor, I just really want someone who actually knows what they're doing. My current doctor is supposedly this big-shot specialist everyone talks about, but honestly, everything he does is useless...

Seriously? There is a massive, sprawling megathread dedicated entirely to gynecologists over in the women's section. 👍Just go look there!

silverfalcon7 said:As far as I know, everything requires a prescription—even the creams—but sometimes the pharmacy will just give them to you without one if they feel like it..

Oh, please. You can walk into a CVS and pick up antibiotics without a script if you know the right person, so don't even get me started on some vaginal wipes...
Candide in Health ·
If it turns out to be Candide, you can just head over to a local CVS or Walgreens and pick up some vaginal suppositories—look for Canesten or Scotch—and you just pop one in every single night. You should also grab some Scotch cream to apply externally (both you and your partner) for at least 10 days. That really ought to do the trick. 🙂
High iron levels and supplements? in Health ·
Okay, so on my second-to-last blood test, my iron levels were at 33—and apparently, the upper limit is 30. Honestly, nobody was making a big deal out of it, and neither was I. But now? My latest results show I'm sitting at 40! Now I'm just waiting on the ferritin numbers to come back (if I’m remembering that correctly). Is it even possible that this is linked to the birth control pills I'm on? I've always struggled with low iron levels; I actually used to be officially anemic back in the day.

And there's one more thing. My alkaline phosphatase came back at 49, but the lower limit is supposed to be 64. My doctor just gave my mom this passing comment about how I need to start exercising because my bones are "weak." Like, excuse me? Can someone please explain what that's even supposed to mean?

Also, what are the actual odds of me having something like hemochromatosis? How common is that condition, really?

Thanks 🙂
Genital yeast infections? in Health ·
Anonymous said:I'm 15 and I haven't had sex. I've dealt with some kind of yeast infection or whatever for years, but I didn't really sweat it because it just felt like my "normal." But yesterday I totally freaked out because I noticed one big sore sitting right in the middle of all those infections, and it actually hurts when I touch it. I don't even know if it's part of the infection or something else entirely—it looks like a pimple, sort of, and when I touch some of them, this white gunk comes out. I'm seriously scared because it doesn't look good at all. Does anyone know what this could be?

Look, yeast infections aren't pimples! Are you shaving or waxing down there? It’s probably just ingrown hairs or breakouts from hair removal.

I know for a fact I was a total Moonchild back when I was younger. Honestly, thank God that phase finally passed. 🙏

Elizabeth Martin63 said:Well, damn it, horror stories or not, people are going to see the truth however they want to spin it!

Fine, sure, but that doesn't mean you should just go around having unprotected sex. My boyfriend's whole "don't worry, I'm careful" routine isn't exactly a comforting thought for me. Especially now that I'm on the pill—I can literally see that he always "leaks" a little bit before he actually pulls out 😁. So, you do the math on how reliable he really is...

Maybe your friend just had a bad run with one specific brand, but if she tried something else, she might actually be happy with the results.😉
Unfortunately, it’s not like everyone finds the perfect pill on their first try. Personally, I've been on Diane for six months now and I feel amazing. Honestly, it works way better for me than Celist did, even though I heard nothing but absolute horror stories about Diane 😁

Elizabeth Martin63 said:I honestly don't get why people take these things when they know it messes with them. Is it just that guys—husbands, boyfriends, whoever—can't control themselves, or is there something deeper going on? I’m terrified of those pills, especially the ones that leave you feeling totally unnatural...
Seriously ladies, major props to you all!
I've been in a long-term relationship for ages now, and honestly, the thought of using anything like that never even crossed my mind. My man is respectful and we're good!

🤣 🤣 🤣 Let him keep being respectful. Birth control pills are actually a fantastic way to prevent an unplanned pregnancy, but obviously, one size doesn't fit all. If one brand makes you feel like crap, you just try a different one instead of coming onto forums to spread these horror stories based on someone else's bad luck.

That’s a first for me. I’ve always just driven down to the local LensCrafters to get everything sorted out myself.
Eye doctors and pricing? in Health ·
Casey Palmer5 said:So, I popped into two different optical shops the other day just to get a quote on some lenses... Honestly, what a joke. Every single lens was running about $230$97—and those are just for the cylinder corrections. To make matters worse, this guy tells me straight up that finding anything that isn't plastic is going to be nearly impossible (even though apparently, the plastic stuff costs more!).
Does anyone actually know how much Medicare covers for stuff like this? Is it even worth my time to deal with the paperwork?

Not that it matters right now, since I managed to lose my glasses in the first place... typical me.

Look, all I ever get from Medicare for eyewear is pocket change. Like, maybe a hundred bucks tops. 🙄
I’ve got the cylindrical, plastic, anti-reflective ones myself. $183 arrived recently and they're a nightmare!

If you want to save money, you can always just grab basic glass lenses at any local shop—they're way cheaper. But if you care about the look of the frames, that's a different story. You can't just shove any old glass into every frame; you really need that plastic to make it work.

Henry Richardson4 said:I’m telling you, I am absolutely fed up. My entire budget is completely blown. It’s just one thing after another lately, and honestly, I feel like I'm constantly drowning in expenses. Every time I think I've finally got a handle on my finances, something else comes up and just wipes me out. It's infuriating! $433 Honestly, it feels like everyone’s just throwing glass everywhere lately! It's getting ridiculous. $25...

I mean, come on, they can't seriously be plastic lenses or anything like that, right? It’s just way too cheap. If you look at the price tag, there's no way they're using any decent materials. It feels like a total rip-off waiting to happen.

I honestly don't care what anyone says—I would go through hell and back, and I’d gladly pay out of my own pocket, just to have my glasses back. It's about the principle of the thing! $167Look, when someone gives you a price, they better be looking you dead in the eye and telling you the truth for both eyes, not just one! You can't play those half-baked games with me.

Walter Carter28 said:Does anyone actually know how long or how often I should be using Canesten? Like, can you overdo it if you apply it too much or for way too many days in a row? Also, is there a risk of building up some kind of resistance to it?

Look, you really need to keep applying it for at least 10 days *after* the itching actually stops. And for heaven's sake, don't go overboard with the amount—I once went way too heavy on the cream and my skin started peeling off like crazy. It was honestly a total disaster. 😲

As for whether you can build up a resistance to it, I honestly have no clue.

goldenviper93 said:I've been using the vaginal suppositories for five days now—once in the morning and once at night—and I think I'm finally seeing some improvement. That cottage cheese-like discharge seems to be clearing up.
My full course lasts 15 days (30 suppositories total). After I finish those, I was thinking about using a tampon soaked in acidophilus and garlic. Does anyone have any advice on what to do once this round of treatment is over?

Thanks in advance.

Honestly, I’m constantly paranoid that the Candida is just going to come roaring back, so I use a little probiotic tampon once a week just as a preventative measure. It’s like my safety net. There are plenty of specialized suppositories out there designed to maintain pH balance, but my gynecologist actually told me it’s better to just stick with plain old probiotics.

Also, a word of advice: For me, the whole Candida nightmare only really cleared up when I completely cut out sweets, fast food, and all that other junk. Let me tell you, sticking to a diet like that is a massive pain in the neck, but it made a huge difference for me. Honestly, any doctor worth their salt would tell you the exact same thing.

Check here for some reading on how diet affects Candida issues.
You can find here what they call the "anti-Candida diet"—give it a shot. It helps me so much.🙂

What on earth does Vaseline have to do with candidiasis? I mean, isn't that just your standard, run-of-the-mill diaper rash cream? Or am I seriously losing my mind here? 😕
Swelling in the groin area?! in Health ·
Thomas Collins60 said:Can the labia majora swell up?

Oh, absolutely. It swells up. 😁 Honestly, it can be pretty uncomfortable too—not exactly agonizing pain, but definitely enough to make you feel awkward and weird. Think of it like the sensation guys get when they’ve taken a hit to the balls. 😳
Swelling in the groin area?! in Health ·
Seriously, it’s like, if I start mumbling some nonsense after a long session—especially when things end without me actually reaching a climax—😁 it leaves me with this super awkward, heavy sensation lingering around. But, you know, eventually, everything just settles back to normal after a little while.
Eye Prescription Help in Health ·
Yeah, look, regarding Getaldus, they aren't anything special. Honestly, there are tons of other optical shops in New York City that are just as good and way easier on your wallet. Once you actually get your prescription, do yourself a favor and shop around at a few different places to see what those lenses or glasses would cost. Prices can vary wildly depending on where you go.
Eye Prescription Help in Health ·
I honestly don't get why you're being so weird about your prescription. It’s pretty obvious you need them if you can't even read something sitting just three feet away from your face. Are we talking "everything is a bit blurry" here, or are you basically flying blind?

Look, if the thought of wearing glasses makes you cringe, contact lenses are always a solid backup plan. Personally, I’d stick with soft lenses—trying to get used to hard ones was a total nightmare for me, though maybe that's just my luck. Just keep in mind they take way more maintenance than a pair of frames. Between the solution and the upkeep, they end up costing a hell of a lot more in the long run.
