Movies that accidentally became classics? in Movies ·
1.Mad Max - they certainly didn't expect it to actually make it out of Australia.
2.Casablanca - this movie dealt with a mountain of issues before it ever hit theaters.
3.The Great Escape
4.Bad Taste
Will there be any foreign trash films on the lineup? I’m staying near Savannah, so I might head over to the Sundance Film Festival, but I have zero interest in watching local trash... 👎

Quote: "remake" isn't actually a remake, and it should be out around 2008, right?
Brian Foster2 says:
He's saying the
Creepshow
Exactly, he says so right there. So if it isn't a remake, what is it? It can't be a sequel if they're already filming a third installment...🤔

darksurfer26 said:I haven't seen the movie, but I read the book. In the novel, there’s actually a meteor shower in the sky, and people just standing there staring in awe, only to go blind the next day from radiation or light or whatever. But that’s not even the main issue—the meteors bring down spores from these lethal alien plants (the Triffids). The protagonist happens to be in the hospital at the time, making him one of the few people who kept his sight. The plants themselves move slowly, but their numbers are overwhelming, and trying to contain or destroy them when you're blind is a nightmare. In the book, the survivors seek refuge on a farm...
That book is excellent. It's as tense as a zombie flick, just with a different kind of antagonist.

Naturally, much like the original Assault on Precinct 13.🙏 🙏 🙏

I have to admit the second half is a bit of an anticlimax, but as a whole, the movie holds up remarkably well. The uncomfortable atmosphere, the tension, and that sense of insecurity practically bleed through the screen. I first saw it on Blu-ray, and every subsequent viewing has confirmed it’s a solid piece of filmmaking. From what I can tell, it’s one of those rare "zombie" movies (that isn't actually a zombie movie) that doesn't just pay homage to Romer, but also references another work: Day of the Triffids; a story about an invasion by—get this—deadly plants.

Exactly. That’s why I love zombie flicks—it's all about that tension and atmosphere. Being surrounded by hundreds of the living dead who want to eat you while wondering if your hideout is even safe... But having grown up on Romer's zombie
classics, 28 Days Later feels somewhat lukewarm to me. 😁 Still, Boyle is a talented director: Trainspotting and Shallow Grave are great. 👍

Hmm... I am genuinely curious about this film, but it feels like the concept was lifted from Stephen King. In Creepshow, there is a segment involving a meteorite hitting Earth that causes plants to sprout everywhere, especially when they hit water. Or did Stephen lift the idea?...🤔

darksurfer26 said:Is it because the zombies actually run in this one?

😂 😂
No, it’s just boring. It starts off strong—especially when that dog tears her friend apart—but by the end, it feels more like a cheap soap opera than a horror movie...

I wasn't particularly fond of 28 Days Later. It starts off strong enough when the animal lovers and terrorists get what's coming to them, but the rest of the film drags, and honestly, it doesn't even feel like a zombie movie... 👎

And let's not even get started on the mere remake Creepshow or the sequel Creepshow 3

Intelligence can also be measured by one's behavior. Take the guys on Jackass, for example; they can’t exactly claim to be intellectuals when their entire act revolves around cutting skin under their fingernails with paper or using store bathrooms for stunts. I’m not suggesting the audience watching them is mindless—they aren't—but they watch because they find the filth entertaining, likely lacking the guts to try it themselves. However, the performers on Jackass are just as foolish, operating under the delusion that you can get by without an education as long as you stay entertained. You know, sticking eggs on pine trees, slamming your head against walls, licking ceiling fans... all of that. Is that what passes for intelligence nowadays? True intelligence also shows up in how you conduct yourself. If someone dents your car, a smart person calls the police and stays calm. An idiot, on the other hand, reaches for a gun or a club he doesn't even need just to scrap with the guy who scratched his bumper. There was once a case where an American walked into a local diner with a concealed weapon; should that have been considered wise? We certainly saw how "smart" we were back in Malta when we caused that mess.

crimsonmoose3 said:Would you be so kind as to actually click 'no' for once?

It’s actually quite important to me. I’m seeing a lot of people who seem to have just blindly clicked 'yes,' and now those who actually think for themselves feel awkward clicking 'no' because they don't want to deviate from the crowd. And what a crowd we have... an extraordinary collection of geniuses.
Just pure brilliance all around.

P.S. Have you noticed how women suddenly become so incredibly smart?
All of a sudden, everyone is a scholar.
Poor husbands...

Well, I clicked yes because I know how to use my brain in two ways: for memory and for logic. To me, being smart means actually using those gray cells—it's what my old man drilled into me. I put that brain to work constantly, whether I'm at my job, playing Rise of Nations, diving into PC adventures, writing stories, or just having a conversation.
Does it really matter if I'm some kind of genius? I'm no mastermind, and I'm perfectly fine with that. I'm just smart enough to handle life, like cooking my own dinner or solving a crossword or a logic puzzle. But I'm certainly not smart enough to build a Terminator or engineer a car.
P.S.
I would have clicked no if I had a clone, but since I don't, and there's no option for double voting, damn it.

crimsonmoose3 said:but memory isn't the same thing as intelligence.

I know people with photographic memories who most would still consider quite dim...

In my view, true intelligence applies more to how you interpret a movie's underlying message.
can you actually do that?

And there’s also this misconception that being smart at something makes you an expert in it.

For instance, a professor friend of mine says his smartest move was deciding not to attend art school. He eventually realized he lacked actual talent for painting, despite how much he loves doing it.
So, being intelligent doesn't necessarily mean being a specialist...
It’s more about understanding your own limitations and acting accordingly.

But then again, I could be wrong...

Ah, that... Well, let me put it this way: I consider myself intelligent, just not quite enough to join Mensa. 😁

crimsonmoose3 said:but you're also considered dim-witted in other areas, so it would be nice if you clicked 'no' for that reason too.

p.s. (I'm not asking this to be dismissive, I just genuinely have to ask)
what exactly does one need intelligence for when it comes to movies?

I don't consider myself dim-witted in other areas; I'm simply not an expert in everything. As for movies, you need a memory for reciting quotes, specific scenes, titles, actors, their biographies, soundtracks, and all that...

The most ridiculous part about them remaking Creepshow is... 👎 A. if only to make a remake, they should at least introduce some new stories. I have zero interest in watching the exact same plots just with updated special effects and a different cast.
And naturally, I’m against a Day of the Dead remake too. There's no way they'll capture scenes quite like this:

Well, if I don't have anything to trade, what can I do? Nobody wants my zombie flicks. 🙄 But things are looking up; I'm starting to trade with Young.
P. S. When
how did you manage to get that first DivX movie, then?
Doesn't matter, but have you finally sat down to watch House of Wax? I'd be interested in your take... 👍
Another classic: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Dr. Miller said:Ahem... I actually have it...

We can finalize this once my movie collection arrives (which is going to be quite an investment, $113. Oof... but it's 53 films, including Raging Bull, Critters, Creepshow, Apocalypse Now...) 🙏 🙏 🙏
P. S. I Love You
When did you pick that one up? It wasn't on my list...🤔
Ah... Rashomon, one of those films on my "must-watch" list... 😢
