Weight loss & workout routines! in Hobbies & Leisure ·
Do yourself a favor and dig through the existing threads first; you aren't going to find much here that hasn't already been covered extensively in the stickied topics or those endless "how to lose the gut" discussions.

If you ask me, this isn't exactly top-tier material, and I’m not just saying that—I’ve looked through plenty of other submissions, and they don't hold up either. Once you actually learn how to carry a decent conversation and pitch topics that make sense, you'll find that people actually stay engaged with them.

As far as I'm concerned, feel free to lock this thread.

How to lose the belly fat—the main thread

Master Index—everything else you might need

The index covers just about everything, including a separate thread where people suggest different types of sports to try out. Honestly, just ignore all those nonsense UN supplements and similar gimmicks; they’re nothing more than overpriced snake oil. The real way to handle this is simply eating a bit of everything while keeping an eye on portion sizes and cutting down on calories—which basically means cutting out the sweets and the junk food entirely.

Honestly, just head down there and check 🙂 for yourself. Or, if you're feeling lazy, give them a quick call and ask.

I actually swung by there the other day, and honestly, I couldn't find the sporting goods section at all—unless they’ve gone to extreme lengths to hide it from the public, which seems unlikely.

Just a quick side note: that Walmart is located in Paramus, not near the Dock.

It was about a month and a half ago when I last saw them, and their department was tucked away in the very back corner. Once you walk through the furniture and home goods section, you just turn right toward the registers and head straight all the way to the end, then cut left into the corner. There was an entire pallet of those weights sitting there; I highly doubt they managed to sell out of everything.

You might want to check out the Walmart in Paramus; their weights are usually pretty cheap (if I remember right, the 10kg set was about $43).

Gary Smith66 said:So, I somehow ended up with a massive tub of multipower whey protein that’s actually past its expiration date. I was looking at it earlier and thinking, "Well, here we are." Honestly, the smell and the taste seem perfectly fine—nothing funky or off about them—but it got me wondering if anyone here has ever messed around with expired supplements. Has anyone dealt with any weird side effects from using protein once the date has lapsed? Just curious if there's anything I should be looking out for before I decide whether to toss it or shake it up.🤷

Look, don't sweat it too much. That’s usually just a "best by" date, not some hard expiration deadline. It doesn't mean the stuff goes bad the second that clock strikes midnight; if it was stored properly—you know, kept in a cool pantry rather than sitting on a hot dashboard—it’s likely still perfectly fine to eat.

I’m certainly not going to dive into my personal take on multi-press machines or how much I actually trust their build quality just yet. 😬

There’s actually already a thread going about sports gear over in the equipment section.

There’s actually a specific thread titled "Agreement for a ride" where everyone coordinates their plans. Besides, I really should give you all a heads-up about the sheer number of people and cars out there...

Honestly, you can always just dodge the crowds. If you stick to Route 1, you'll head right past Mount Rainier and straight down toward Malibu, and from there, it’s nothing but a smooth downhill cruise into Clearwater.👍

Dennis Collins38 said:Personally, I’ve had my fair share of flat tires, but let me tell you, dealing with a puncture is nothing compared to the absolute nightmare of losing a wheel entirely.

When you're flying down a steep mountain pass, trust me, it doesn't really matter which one happens. Either way, you're going to end up eating dirt face-first.

Dennis Collins38 said:The guy in the thread below just had his wheel axle snap. It really makes you wonder—what happens if a thru-axle fails while you're hitting a sharp descent through some thick woods? Who is actually responsible for checking these things and swapping them out on a regular basis?

Honestly, getting a flat tire is a much bigger and more frequent headache, and since the end result is pretty much the same, I'd say... 🤣

Though, I really ought to put together a subject index first 🙂
James Perez84 said:The manual claims they patch holes up to 3 mm, which actually seems like a pretty substantial size for this kind of thing. Usually, when you're dealing with a bike tire, you're just looking at those tiny little punctures anyway.

Anyway, let me know how it works out for you once you give it a shot. 👍
hiddenheron47 said:You clearly didn't factor in having spare tubes on your bike, which basically doubles your savings.$8.25

The reality is, you still need those spare tubes because sealant can only patch up tiny little pinholes; once you run into anything even remotely substantial, you might as well just enjoy the view while you're stranded on the side of the road.
hiddenheron47 said:It costs about $17 to get sealant for two MTB tubes; you just pump it in through the valve stem after popping the needle out,
http://www.local-bike-shop.com/sealant-offers

Honestly, at that point, you’re better off just buying those two tubes from $15 instead of shelling out for 2x$8.25 plus the cost of the $17 sealant.

mistygull24 said:I’ve actually had pretty good luck using tubes. One of my buddies ended up with flats maybe seven or eight times during our rides, while I didn't hit a single one—and we were riding the exact same trails, one following the other—so there’s definitely some value there if you ask me. Plus, I don't feel any of that annoying bouncing or harshness either, especially since I'm running a 1.95 tire.

Honestly, that doesn't tell me much. I was out riding with a few friends last year and both of my tires went flat, yet none of them had any issues at all. And keep in mind, nobody in our group was even using tubes...

Ugh, man, I was having the exact same luck. My front tire had been holding air perfectly for like four or five months straight, and then today—right in the middle of this massive descent—everything just went south. One second I’m flying, the next the tire just completely loses pressure right when you say the word "disaster." I think maybe the sidewall took a hit from a rock or maybe the bead just unseated itself from the rim, but either way, I ended up nearly faceplanting over my handlebars. 😢

Luckily, I wasn't too far off the main road, so my girlfriend was able to swing by and pick me up. We managed to get some air in it at a nearby gas station, but all that sealant leaked out along with the air, so now I’m stuck needing to grab another bottle.

Just so I'm clear, I wasn't trying to haggle, but what's the ballpark figure for one of these wheels? Is that roughly $50 per wheel, assuming it includes the rim and hub but doesn't include the cassette?
I'm torn on whether it's smarter to pay someone to true it or if I should just bite the bullet, buy a new one, and call it a day.

Also, how do you actually get the cassettes off? You need a specific tool for that, right? 🤷

Well, I’m heading down to the local bike shop next Thursday; they’ve got the truing stand, the cassette tools, and all the gear. I actually spent some time there today truing up two of my own wheels for free—well, "free" in the sense that I was just paying for my own time.

Until then, you can always spend some time on YouTube watching tutorials on how to true a wheel. Honestly, you don't even really need a dedicated stand; you can actually manage it using just your brake calipers if you're resourceful enough...

For instance.

Keith Wells2 said:My rear rim is pretty badly warped; I’m seeing about a 1.5cm wobble when I'm riding, which actually forced me to loosen my rear brake calipers all the way just so they wouldn't rub against the wheel.🙄
Should I just bite the bullet and buy a new rim or wheel, or is it worth getting it trued?

Also, does anyone know how you get a cassette off? Do I need a specific tool for that?
And if I pick up a whole new wheel at a shop like REI, does that come complete with the hub (bearings and axle included), or is it just the wheel itself?

If you go out and grab a completely new wheel, the hub comes built right into it.

You could try to have it trued, but honestly, you should check first to see if one of your spokes has snapped.
