Sarah Wells23 said:I was actually thinking about starting a thread just like this—honestly, after the nightmare I’ve dealt with over the last few days, if I were even slightly braver or crazier, one of those "doctors" would be looking for a new head right about now.
Scenario #1: My dad started gasping for air on Saturday afternoon—couldn't breathe, basically choking. I called 911 to get him an ambulance since he can't drive and I don't have my license, and they actually had the nerve to tell me they aren't some damn taxi service. Like, sorry, does it matter that taxpayers fund these vehicles? Anyway, after a massive argument, they finally agreed to come. We waited 25 minutes—which wouldn't even take them if they were walking—and when they finally got to Dad, they asked a couple of questions and gave him a sedative injection. That was it. That was the whole "medical intervention"—I was standing right there, saw everything. Once they cleared out, I checked the paperwork: pulse 60, BP 130/70, blood sugar—something, I can't quite make it out.
I guess we're all just supposed to applaud these doctors who've pioneered a revolutionary new way to diagnose people: just staring at them without using any actual equipment or tools. 🤷
Two days later, I find out my neighbor (who was perfectly healthy) passed away. Talking to her daughter, I found out she went to the ER a few days prior complaining of stomach pains and black stools. They just handed her an antibiotic, and the woman bled out because she had a ruptured ulcer.
Just to be clear, I never ran into these kinds of issues or people who couldn't be called doctors in their wildest dreams back in the big cities like Chicago or NYC. What’s happening in these smaller towns is absolutely horrific. 🙂

I can't speak for Chicago, but in Miami, the rule is pretty much that they won't show up for emergencies.😂 Unless it's a literal life-or-death miracle.🙏 They're just lazy bums...☕ and honestly, in Miami, they mostly hire people through connections/nepotism who have way worse credentials than other candidates...it's an open secret. Probably isn't any better in other cities either. So what do you expect from characters like that?🤷

As for a similar tragedy like that neighbor situation, I've got one too. I truly believe things will only improve once a few people lose their minds and start shooting, strangling, or whatever else happens to some of those high-and-mighty doctors. It won't happen any other way. Not until they actually start fearing for their own asses can we expect any real change.

Robert Collins2 said:Look, you definitely don't need that crap in your life. I once crossed paths with this total amateur who nearly killed me, and then the creep actually tried to knock me out with enough sleeping pills to sink a ship. Honestly, my body just fights off meds like crazy. Back in the day, I was tossing around 5 mg of Xanax, 75 mg of Effexor, 600 mg of Seroquel, and 25 mg of Thorazine all at once, but now I've scaled it way down to just 37.5 mg of Effexor and 25 mg of Seroquel a day.

😲😲 Am I seeing this right?!😕

well, if you say so... I guess I'm doing even better than that.🥳
Lost in space in Psychology ·
I’ve been the butt of everyone's jokes for ages because of my total lack of any sense of direction.🤣🤣
The other day, I actually managed to get lost right in the middle of downtown.🤦 Just some random streets I never normally walk down.🙄

But the best part? I have zero clue if I’m heading north, south, east, or west!🙏 I honestly can't tell where I am in relation to where I started—it's like being stuck in some massive maze!🤣🤣 😢

Honestly, I can’t decide which error is more annoying—503 or 504.🤷

But hey, at least the maintenance notifications hit me like a ton of bricks every single time.🙏
They’re running maintenance on it almost daily—you'd think they were trying to secure the Pentagon or something.☕

placidwolf27 said:How does one actually "know what they want out of life"?
Is it a matter of constructing elaborate plans—identifying with some specific archetype, projecting oneself into a hypothetical scenario, or perhaps adhering to a rigid set of values you're desperately trying to manifest? Or maybe it’s just a reaction to a current, undesirable reality that you're clawing your way out of... or perhaps an emotional fixation on a single, specific outcome?
I suppose my question is really about the underlying logic—what criteria do we even use when choosing "Option B" over "Option A"... why do we crave one thing over another, or how does the process of developing a concrete desire even begin?

So, basically, you have no clue what you want?😁

Oh, yeah. I know the feeling all too well.🙂
The problem is—I just don't have the balls for it.☕

Why? Good question, honestly—but I haven't got a clue.🤷
Dental anxiety: Anyone else terrified of the dentist? in Psychology & Therapy ·
Elizabeth Smith53 said:I used to be fine with the dentist, but everything changed when I switched to this one practitioner. Now, she keeps me pinned to that chair for an hour at a time, which has made the whole experience absolutely revolting. I had a tooth crack two months ago, but I’ve been dreading going in. Well, today a much larger piece just broke off. To make matters worse, I’m convinced she’s playing games with her billing; the prices for fillings seem to shift every single time I visit. Why would I want to deal with the headache of arguing over a bill that changes mid-appointment? I don't trust her. One time, she initially told me the repair would cost $100 because she had to apply a medicament, but then suddenly claimed I owed an additional $67. When I questioned her—since I had already paid the three hundred we agreed on—she just brushed me off, saying, "Oh, just another hundred and we'll call it even." Since then, I've lost all motivation to go back. It feels shady. I won't say her work is bad—my teeth are incredibly brittle and prone to breaking anyway—but this constant price manipulation combined with being stuck in that chair for an hour is just unbearable.

And honestly, there's more to it. I’m genuinely terrified of speaking up or challenging her, because I can't help but think about that drill in her hand. Part of me worries she might intentionally target my face or my front teeth if I push her. It’s a fear born from a past trauma. I once visited this complete idiot of a dentist, and because I was fidgeting a bit in the chair, he leaned in with the drill and aggressively threatened to drill into my face if I didn't stop squirming. Ever since then, those mental images haunt me every time I sit down in a dental office.

But the absolute worst part? My teeth are a disaster. Every few months, another one cracks. I can't go a single year without some sort of dental catastrophe. Now I'm torn: is it just that I can't stand this woman as a person, which is why I feel this way? Should I just find someone else, even if it means paying significantly more?

🤣🤣🤣 good grief...
is this thread about service costs or a phobia of dental drills?😁

The fact that this is even happening nowadays is just pathetic.☕
And here we are, hanging out on the biggest forum in America.🙄
God help us...
I once knew someone who died because of medical malpractice. Or honestly, let's call it what it was—pure negligence and just plain sloppy work.☕
Also, gotta mention this weird leg thing.🤣🤣 It wasn't some crazy dream either—I was just sitting there in this awkward-ass position.🙄
So I’m sitting there, try to stand up, and—BAM—I just collapse!🙏 And I'm looking down like, "What the hell?" because my leg isn't even responding.🤣 I try to get up again, and nope, back to the floor!😂😂 Only then did it finally click—I couldn't feel my leg at all.😛
Happens to me all the time.
One time, I seriously crapped myself.😱 It took like two full minutes before my hand finally stopped tingling and went back to normal.😲

Michelle Sanchez55 said:What even causes these heavy flows?? On day one, it’s light—kind of pinkish, a little crampy, but nothing crazy. BUT by day two, I literally have to wear two pairs of pants everywhere I go because blood is just running down my legs. Not even exaggerating. I’m out here wearing double socks, underwear, boxers, tights, AND pants, and I still leak through without a hitch... on that second day, it’s straight up flooding, just pure blood, no mucus. By day three it levels out, and the whole thing lasts about 6 days. Is that enough of a reason to hit up a gynecologist?

By day three, I'm basically bedridden. If it weren't for luck, I'd be at the ER getting a transfusion.😢
And it lasts 4 days.

Day one is almost nothing, day two picks up a bit, then day three is a total washout. Then day four, it's back to almost nothing.🤷
Sometimes I skip the flood, sometimes I don't.😕

It's only day one for me right now, but I'm already panicking about what day three is gonna look like.🙄
rapidgull3 said:Is an adult's personality truly unchangeable because it’s a biological fact, or just because people lack the patience to try and retrain them? If the former is true, then the behaviors we picked up as kids are essentially set in stone for life. It would mean the old saying "a leopard can't change its spots" is actually right, reducing us to nothing more than our genetic programming. But if it's the latter—if we just stop trying—then that’s a pretty depressing thought.

Why does it even bother you so much? That whole "we're basically just animals" thing—which, let's be real, is pretty much a mathematical certainty—is clearly weighing on you.😕 So you actually want to believe you belong to some kind of superior race at a top-tier civilization level? Please. 🤷

Well, looks like I was wrong. My bad.😉
Men - should I tuck in my shirt? in Miscellaneous ·

Senior year burnout: Too many responsibilities and zero sleep in Psychology & Therapy ·
redharbor9 said:Call it weird if you want, but it’s just a conscious choice you make before hitting the sack to control when you wake up. It sounds mystical or whatever, but I actually talked to a sleep expert who studied this at Harvard, and he told me straight up: there’s nothing magical or unexplainable about it. You just decide to set your internal clock, and it happens.

When I first started trying this, my routine was simple: right before bed, I'd just tell myself exactly how many hours I was going to sleep, or specifically what time I wanted to wake up. I didn't do it while watching TV or messing around; I did it the second I laid down, closed my eyes, and got ready to pass out.

Your body picks up on it crazy fast.

Facts. My old man and I can do it too. It’s not some sci-fi movie thing.🤷

I've been doing fine for four years now. Honestly, anyone who survived the absolute nightmare of the first three years and made it to year four is probably gonna graduate!🤣🤣
Maybe it's because by senior year you've already adjusted to the grind and the way college works—it seems kinda weird to me that people are still running into these issues in their fourth year.🤷
Why do some people need so much money? in Psychology ·
Andrew Sullivan8 said:I’m posting this here in the spirituality section, too, since I’m not really sure where it fits best... 😉

"Every single day, you open the papers and see more scandals involving millions of dollars in fraud. It seems people will go to any lengths to get rich—stealing, killing, cheating, just committing any kind of crime imaginable...

What's interesting is that almost all these dishonest schemes are pulled off by people who don't actually need the money to survive. We aren't talking about someone on the brink of starvation or someone who can't afford basic clothes and is struggling to stay alive. It's usually the middle class or the wealthy elite—people who have plenty, but simply never have enough. So much for that idea that greed is driven by necessity...

Sometimes these folks have so much wealth that three generations of their descendants couldn't spend it all, yet they still pull dirty stunts just to stack up even more.

There's something deeply tragic about money, isn't there? How it manages to ruin so many lives..."

Honestly, that question feels a little naive. We all know money buys basically everything—or at least most things—and everyone wants to live a comfortable life. 🤷 Let's face it: pretty much everything we do is driven by the almighty dollar. We grind through school just to land a better paycheck, we work ourselves to the bone for a salary... the whole world basically revolves around cash.

Personally, if I don't get at least 8 hours of sleep, studying becomes impossible. I just end up staring at the pages like some kind of zombie 😁

vividorca9 said:You can try, but I don't know if you'll actually make it. It really comes down to how much your body demands sleep. A colleague of mine survives on sleep every other day, whereas I need a solid amount just to function. Personally, I refuse to believe you don't have time for six, seven, or even eight hours of sleep just because of college.
Get organized. Knock out half your work over the weekend or something. But seriously, my best advice is don't try making four hours of sleep a daily habit.

As for how healthy that is, I really can't tell you. You've got people who go years without sleep due to chronic insomnia, and then there are those who need ten-plus hours a day because of hypersomnia, but those are mostly outliers and extremes. I'm just saying, you can try it and see how it goes.

I once went five days without sleeping during finals week, and let me tell you, the sleep I got after that was the best sleep of my entire life. 🤣

Good grief!😲😲😲
Were you actually out doing something, or what?😁
Man 😢 I could seriously use that right now...🙄
