It’s pure voyeurism, fueled by the fact that maybe our own personal lives lack a little excitement. Reading the threads about George Orwell's Big Brother on this forum, I get the feeling that contestants who don't lean into scandal quickly become boring. Meanwhile, the ones making headlines get torn to shreds... and honestly, most of the people complaining probably just wish they were in their shoes, proving how much better they could handle the pressure. Because popularity—no matter how you slice it—is incredibly seductive. Especially that instant fame that's manufactured overnight out of thin air. That's always the biggest draw.
That actually reminded me of the first "victim" of Big Brother, Egle from Rijeka, who was in season 1 and the first one evicted. Found an interesting article online:
Egle - A psychiatric case or the only sane person in Big Brother?
As Friday approaches—the day viewers decide who gets booted first from the Fox Big Brother show—debates have flared up regarding the only woman from Rijeka and, by all accounts, the frontrunner to leave. Opinions on the forums are split, to say the least. "It’s sad we live in a society where values are so twisted! One normal, sensible, mature, down-to-earth girl—with her own opinions—is being trashed just because she isn't some airhead, doesn't force herself on people, thinks for herself, doesn't have a certain body type, and doesn't talk nonsense..." says one person who finds Egle likable. On the other hand, plenty of people have started losing their minds after just one week: "Disgusting!!!! What is wrong with you guys.........are you doing this to us?!!!!!!?????????????????????? What kind of quality did you see on TV... PLEASE......TELL ME......because clearly they are "STEALING" footage from us!!!! Egle is a MILLION PERCENT fake!!!! I watched her THE TRUTH !!!!! tonight!!!!! She’s going to choke on all her lies and posing, she needs HELP!!!!!!"

I really believe we need to tackle the root cause of this issue. Though, honestly, addressing the consequences might be even more urgent.
If I could offer a little bit of a forecast for the future:
In about twenty or thirty years, my son will finally have his "aha!" moment, though he’s already starting to swallow his frustrations bit by bit, just like everyone else does, but since he isn't allowed to express himself in a healthy way—you know, through a good old-fashioned argument or some friction— he might eventually realize he was wrong all along, but the real question is where his wife will be at that point.
By then, it will be far too late to build even a basic, healthy relationship with the family. That’s how I see these types of tight-knit domestic circles ending— where everything is shared under one roof, yet the emotional tension never breaks and the air never clears, it just stays heavy and stagnant, like an endless, humid summer afternoon in Florida.
I guess this reminds me of my brother. My mom used to wreck all his relationships; she basically dictated how he was supposed to live his life. He’s 45 now, pretty much losing his mind, though he's starting to see things clearly... If anything, it’s probably for the best they didn't stay under the same roof. They've lived in different states for the last 18 years.
Speaking of this, here’s an example. I was just talking to a friend about how some people just walk right into a house without knocking if the door isn't locked. He lives in a multi-family setup where he, his wife, and their kids share a building with his parents—they have separate apartments, one floor above the other. But his mom kept walking into his place whenever she felt like it, totally ignoring any sense of privacy. It really bothered him (which, unlike your husband, is actually a reasonable thing to be annoyed about). He tried explaining why it was a problem, but nothing worked until he finally just snapped and told her, "What if I'm in there having sex with my wife?" Since then, she hasn't done it again.
I remember when the USSR sent a team from the Boston Celtics to that soccer tournament, and they were all Lithuanian. I guess Ivanauskas was the only one who actually turned into something of a player later on. I watched a fair amount of the games on TV, though. It seemed pretty well organized, and Zaga was a pretty cute mascot... 🙂

What do you mean? They have several playoff rounds left. Losing a Champions League playoff doesn't mean they get relegated. 🙄

I doubt they've even heard of basketball over in England. 🙂
In the English Football League—you know, the Championship, League One, and League Two—they're actually floating this idea about doing penalty shootouts after a draw. The loser would get one point and the winner would walk away with two. I don't really see the logic here. If this happened, teams that were perfectly fine settling for a draw might just say, "Hey, why not? We get the point for the tie, plus maybe we can snag a second one on penalties." It feels like it would just make teams play even more conservatively.

As far as I'm concerned, that's the only thing that matters in the US. 😁 I mean, fine, I kind of root for Seattle Sounders FC anyway, so here's 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 to yesterday's win!
I've been glancing through some write-ups. I guess the Swedes are playing without their guys from the US, while the Russians just brought Ovechkin as their one big standout. Apparently, the new star Crosby is playing for Canada.
It kicked off today. The rosters aren't quite as stacked as they were during the Olympics, which makes sense since the NFL season is still going, but there are plenty of guys whose seasons wrapped up early enough to show up. It should be interesting.
My bad to anyone who felt personally attacked when I bailed on the debate. 👋 But yeah, I caught some highlights from the Tour de France on Sunday and I have to say, hats off to Evans. 👍
