@Grace Edwards, man, that scene with the old lady is hands down one of the absolute dumbest, most nonsensical things I’ve ever seen in a movie. Seriously, just because of that one moment, I had to dock my rating—and you know I usually only drop it by one notch, even if I occasionally go a bit lower before correcting myself.
It was just pure stupidity and it honestly ruins the whole vibe of the flick. Scenes like that have absolutely no business being in a Predator movie.
They could have easily gone with something like tripping the Predator with a broom or having him fall and get hurt while they were trying to pull that goofy gag, but instead, they went this way. Look, I get that there was some banter between the characters—the first movie had its share of humor too—but once the Predator actually shows up? There shouldn't be any room for jokes. It's supposed to be intense! That scene made it feel more like a Scooby-Doo cartoon than a sci-fi thriller.
I guess it all comes down to personal taste, right? But let's be real: the original is a total masterpiece, whereas the sequel feels pretty mediocre to me.
Compared to the first one, Predator 2 feels way too unserious, almost like just another run-of-the-mill 90s action flick you'd see on basic cable.
On the flip side, that sequence in the subway where he jumps onto the train, crawling along while the lights flash and then suddenly diving into the darkness to kill everything in sight? Now *that* was a killer scene.
Just imagine if someone had flipped the light switch and yelled at the Predator to take off his costume, spat on him, and slapped him... I mean, come on, that's just ridiculous. In my book, whenever the Predator is on screen, he needs to be terrifying, without a single shred of comedy cutting through the tension.
