dustycanyon5 said:She is just gorgeous, totally stunning, and such a killer actress! Honestly, she’s the only reason I even sat through that whole vampire crap. 😁
Should I go with van Helsing (2004) or the Underworld series? VH is decent and Underworld is alright too, though the sequels definitely start to slide downhill after a while, even if they aren't total trash.
You gotta check out Victor Frankenstein (2015)—it is absolute garbage.
Noah Fisher15 said:It's such a shame this movie flopped at the theaters when it's filmed so beautifully, the acting is just fantastic, and the story itself is genuinely great. It’s such an honest film dealing with some heavy themes, and it clearly just didn't find its audience.
Right now, it's easily my favorite movie of the year.
But honestly, it’s not even surprising, right? Most people probably went in expecting some lighthearted kid's flick and ended up totally let down because it's actually a much more serious take on a children's story. Which, if you think about it, isn't even really a "kids' movie" in the traditional sense—it's more like a portrait of a boy struggling with... well, I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, but he's facing it in his own way.
Honestly, this was pretty weak. It felt more like a half-baked attempt at a gangster movie parody than anything else. I get that it’s based on a true story, but the whole thing comes off way too goofy to actually get sucked into the narrative. Hardy just wasn't bringing his A-game here, and if there's any redeeming quality to be found, it’s strictly the cinematography.
Betty Nelson71 said:So I was watching this movie yesterday and honestly? I just had to turn it off because I couldn't stop staring at how incredibly airbrushed Pitt looked. It’s like they went absolutely wild in post-production; his face looked so smooth it was like someone ran a heavy-duty steamroller right over it.👎 He looked totally checked out and wooden too, almost like he was thinking, "Hey, I'm Brad Pitt, who cares about acting?"🙄
Man, I am totally with you there. It’s like he has this weird plastic coating on his skin, you know? Like a literal plastic face. And the acting? He looked like he was just going through the motions, like when you're stuck doing some tedious chore at work and you're just trying to get it over with as fast as possible.
The concept itself isn't bad—kind of giving me those old-school Casablanca vibes like someone mentioned earlier—but seriously, Brad and even Marion are such huge misses that they just completely tank the whole movie. Lately, I feel like Marion hasn't been hitting the mark at all, like she's just not as good as she used to be. Or maybe it's just the roles she's picking lately? Because man, she was actually great in Inception.
Honestly, such a fantastic movie. It’s easily one of my favorites from last year, and honestly, one of the best I've seen in quite a while.
Jonathan Perez88 said:I was absolutely floored by this movie 🕺. The plot, the dialogue, the characters—everything worked. I spent days looping the end credits song on YouTube. Honestly? Probably the best film I’ve seen all year.
My take is that extremes are never the answer. Just as modern parenting can go too far toward being neglectful, the radical approach taken here—where pancakes become a reward for a first kiss—is just as broken. It boils down to two things: a) you have to find balance in life, and b) people simply aren't putting enough effort into raising and educating their kids. That's my two cents 😬.
Sandra Harris2 said:There’s a movie here that many parents really ought to see, though they probably won't, because they always think they know best when it comes to their kids. And honestly, that’s exactly where the film hits home. If I had to pick my own version of an extreme lifestyle, I’d choose one where I can still grab dinner, read up on quantum physics, and celebrate Chomsky day. I really appreciated the honesty in how the characters interact with their children—that raw sincerity between people. It drives me crazy when adults talk down to kids like they're idiots rather than treating them like actual human beings and future adults. We tend to protect children with this paranoid intensity from anything deemed "bad" or "inappropriate"—things like death, illness, or sex—completely forgetting that they’ll eventually have to face all of it. A colleague of mine has an 8-year-old son who still blindly believes in Santa Claus, and she keeps the charade going because she thinks "a child needs to stay a child for as long as possible." I don't get where this myth comes from, this idea that childhood is some perfect era we need to stretch out indefinitely. All in all, it's a fascinating look at what we label as socially acceptable or "normal," questioning how much of that is actually good or bad, who gets to be the judge, and the pressure to conform to the system.
Kudos to everyone for writing all this out! I'm totally on the same page as you guys, so I don't really have anything else to add.
I’m actually feeling pretty good about this one, honestly, I'm super satisfied with how they handled this new Jack Ryan installment. 👍
Don't get me wrong, it doesn't quite hit the heights of the first one, but as a sequel? It totally works, and even if you viewed it as its own standalone flick, it'd still hold up just fine.
Honestly, this was a pretty solid watch. It might even be my favorite from 2016, but I really shouldn't jump the gun on a final verdict until I've checked a few more off my list, you know?
I actually really dug the cast selection here; they didn't just throw in a massive name like Brad Pitt or some other huge superstar, which was honestly such a breath of fresh air to see some less "loud" names for a change.
I caught it last night and honestly, I’m totally stoked—they actually nailed everything they set out to do. 👍
That’s exactly how a movie about Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs should feel, you know? It shouldn't be some weird situation where Snow White is suddenly a warrior swinging a sword around; it feels like they were just trying too hard to mash it up with Lord of the Rings or something.
Lily James was such a killer choice for Cinderella, too—she's gorgeous and she absolutely killed the role. I mean, if the casting were up to me, I probably would've gone with either Jennifer Lawrence or Margot Robbie for that part, but hey, I didn't even realize Lily was such a big deal until recently!
All in all, it’s just this super magical movie for kids that lets them experience that pure fairytale charm the right way, while us older folks get to sit back and enjoy a modern, high-tech spin on the classics we grew up with.
It’s an interesting watch, but honestly? It’s pretty middle-of-the-road. That being said, if you're a massive fan of The Last of Us, it’s definitely worth your time since it hits those exact same vibes.
Viva Las Vegas. Seriously, this was such a killer French Thriller, and man, it’s just so different from the usual stuff you're used to seeing... it totally tricks you into thinking it's following a standard formula when it really isn't, haha! But honestly, I better stop talking right now before I accidentally spoil something for you guys.
It’s such a gritty, grounded depiction of destruction that somehow manages to work perfectly as both a documentary and a high-octane action flick at the same time. I saw someone nail this exact sentiment on IMDb, and honestly, they hit the nail right on the head—that's basically the whole story in a nutshell.
I can't even remember the last time I sat through a disaster blockbuster that felt this incredibly real; it’s easily one of the best movies ever made within this genre.
Man, I was looking forward to this movie like a little kid waiting for Christmas morning because I just live for those dreamy, fairytale-style stories, but honestly? It was such a massive letdown.
Larry Ortiz5 said:Well, if you're gonna ask, just tell me which local shop you're looking at so I can actually give you a solid recommendation... I mean, the DELL monitor is sitting at 160 USD while the ASUS monitor is only 133 USD..
Win-Win and Best Buy.
Those two are pretty much the biggest players in my area with the most massive selection, though I guess Best Buy is an option too, even if their stock seems a bit more limited compared to them.
Look, I didn't want to go out of my way and make anyone do extra work by hunting down deals for me, so I just did a quick search myself 😁 ...and ended up picking out two options that seem like the best bang for my buck, so why don't you take a look and let me know which one you think is the winner? And obviously, I'm not looking at anything smaller than 23 inches, though honestly, I'd much rather grab a 24 or maybe one of those 23.8/23.6 inch ones like the Dell monitor and the ASUS monitor.
Honestly, I’m totally tapped out right now when it comes to grabbing something with 2 GB of VRAM since prices are kind of spiking lately, and on top of that, I really need to pick up a new monitor first, so I think I'll just hang tight and wait until I've scraped together enough cash to do it right.
It's definitely better to be patient than to go charging in blindly and regret it later, you know? Thanks so much for the heads-up! 👍
Megan Wright3 said:What kind of CPU are we talking about? And which games specifically?
The GeForce gt 710 1GB is definitely the better choice, though you should expect newer titles to run just as poorly as they do on my ATI 5450 1GB DDR3—we're looking at minimum settings and low resolutions here.
AMD Athlon 2.90 GHz
I'm looking at stuff like Alien Isolation or Assassin's Creed Rogue... basically things from back in 2014 or 2015 since I'm sitting here with only 4 GB of RAM, so if I ever want to touch Grand Theft Auto V or Watch Dogs, I'm definitely gonna have to cough up some cash for more RAM.
At the end of the day, I really don't care if it looks amazing or anything, I just need to be able to actually launch them and play, even if everything is cranked down to the bare minimum settings.
Larry Ortiz5 said:I’d personally lean toward the Dell too, mostly because it features an IPS panel. And what does that actually mean for you? It means you get those great viewing angles—basically, no matter how much you tilt your head or shift in your chair, the colors stay consistent and look perfect. How much are you looking to drop on this? If you tell me your budget, I might even be able to point you toward something completely different... let's face it, Dell usually commands a bit of a premium.
The Dell is sitting at about $200, while the ASUS monitor is closer to $165.
I honestly don't know the exact conversion if you're over in the States, since I can never seem to keep track of current exchange rates—it's a total embarrassment, I know, but that's just how my brain works! haha. 😁
Seriously though, any advice is welcome here, but if we're talking a budget of up to $200 or maybe $220 max, I feel like the best way to find a winner is to dive deep into the specs, scour the web for honest user reviews from people who actually own them, and maybe even pick the brains of the folks working behind the counter at places like Best Buy.
So, which one of these monitors is actually better if I want to binge movies and get some gaming in?

The folks over at Best Buy were telling me the Dell is the way to go, though they did mention it doesn't handle black levels quite as well. There's a pretty significant price gap here—the Dell is definitely more expensive—but if it’s actually going to give me a better experience, I don't mind dropping the extra cash. But honestly, if there isn't a huge difference, why would I waste the money, right?
I'll just hang tight for maybe two or three days to see what you guys think before I make my final call on which one to grab. Thanks a ton in advance for the help!
Which one should I grab? Which of these is actually going to be better when I'm trying to get some gaming done?
Also, do I have to ditch my current 512 MB card entirely, or can I just slap this one on top of it? Because if I can just add it, that would be awesome since the Dell one is way cheaper than the Gigabit option—so what do you guys think I should do if adding them together is an option?
