Body of Lies (2008) in Movies ·
The movie was just okay, honestly. It’s kind of wild how the quality just tanks after the first thirty minutes, because for a hot second there, I actually thought I was watching a total masterpiece.
Problem solved! Honestly, my bad for causing such a massive stir earlier, but man, am I relieved. Huge shoutout to Avioradar for stepping up and helping me get this sorted out.
So, my phone died on me, right? And I tried to juice it up using my PC, but then my phone gives me this notification saying I have to enable the USB connection through the little icon by the clock before I unplug the cable. So, naturally, I did exactly what it asked, but ever since then, the computer just won't recognize my phone at all!

I even tried reinstalling the USB connection drivers between my phone and my PCA, but it just kept spitting out a "Failed" error message.

What am I supposed to do now?

Seriously, if anyone could help me out, I’d really appreciate it.

That was a solid flick! Even Mel was totally hooked since they both ended up loving this movie and Gringo too.
The second half of the film could have definitely landed a bit harder, but hey, it’s still decent as is. I gotta say though, those sudden, wild twists—like that gut-punching moment at the start where he loses his daughter—were actually pretty impressive and caught me off guard.

Honestly, this flick was such a blast—just a really solid, above-average ride from start to finish. It’s got those heavy dramatic beats that hit you hard, but then it just kicks into high gear, only to pull back again with some seriously sharp, well-timed humor that keeps you on your toes. It’s a pretty smooth blend of drama and action, sprinkled with enough comedy to keep things light when they need to be.

briskhound2 said:Enough to make the older movie look way better than the new one...

For the most part, yeah, I’m with you. But honestly, not everyone feels that way, which is kind of hilarious when you think about it because it feels like a total rule of thumb that those older movies just have this level of believability that the newer ones completely lack. Don't you feel like they just hit different?
Look, like I was saying before, there are definitely some older flicks out there that just aren't worth your time—you know exactly what I mean, so don't even try to argue with me on this one! But hey, let's not get totally sidetracked and go off on a tangent about that right now, alright?

briskhound2 said:Honestly, even though Twister is twenty years older, it still feels way more believable than Storm... It's a decent enough flick if you just want to zone out for a bit—there are some cool moments—but when it comes to actually being convincing? Zero points.

Just to refresh your memory, we were actually diving into the whole question of believability here, right? I wasn't saying one is strictly better than the other, though let's be real—usually, those older flicks tend to hold up a bit better, don't they? But hey, it’s not like every single vintage movie is automatically superior to every modern release, is it? It really just depends on the craft!

What does age even have to do with how believable a movie is? This film isn't hard to believe just because it came out in 2014; it’s hard to believe because it's just... fundamentally unbelievable. I mean, come on, there are plenty of movies from twenty years ago that feel totally unrealistic, right? Getting older doesn't automatically make a movie more convincing.

That being said, I'm totally with you—the lack of realism is a massive flaw. Honestly, the characters pull such ridiculous stunts that I found myself rolling my eyes more than a few times while watching.

It’s not bad... actually, it’s pretty great 😂

Jokes aside, it might not be "great," but the movie itself is honestly kind of weak. It’s way below average, you know? Like, it’s one of those movies that’s just there to entertain you on a single watch and then it's gone—you aren't going to remember it or feel like revisiting it anytime soon. Okay, fine, that was sarcasm; you could actually watch it more than once because it's genuinely fun.

If I were being totally real, I’d give it a 3/10, but I’ll bump it up to a 4/10 just because those tornado scenes look absolutely killer and the shaky cam work is some of the best I've seen. You know how shaky cam can completely ruin a movie if they overdo it? Well, here it feels more like a steady hand than a shaky one, so they didn't go overboard with all the jittering.

It’s gotta be Predator, hands down 👍

I mean, come on, you’ve got a total pro on one side with all those high-tech gadgets, and then you've got Weyland-Yutani breathing down his neck?
The Purge: Anarchy (2014) in Movies ·
Honestly, it was just a decent, middle-of-the-road flick.

It definitely felt better than the first one, but man, it still didn't quite hit the heights I was hoping for. There were so many missed opportunities, too—like that whole masked gang? I was fully expecting them to go absolutely wild and actually pose a real threat to the main characters, but they basically just stood there doing nothing.
To make a long story short, the movie feels a bit scattered, when it really could have been an incredible survivor horror if they had just leaned into it more.

My rating: 4/10
I'm honestly stuck in such a massive rut right now—I am seriously struggling to pick out a movie to watch!

Honestly, I just don't see how any TV series can even come close to the greatness of top-tier movies. I mean, really, where is the originality? It feels like almost every single series out there is just rehashing some story we've already seen on the big screen, only to find that the original film did it way better and with much more impact. Why bother reinventing the wheel when the cinematic version was already perfect?
Look, I’ll say it: The Sopranos is easily one of the greatest series ever made, and honestly, it sits right at number two on my all-time favorites list. But let's be real for a second—can any TV show actually compete with the sheer greatness of The Godfather and The Godfather Part II? I just don't think it can.

And honestly, let’s talk about how much these series get dragged out lately. Don't get me wrong, I totally get that a series needs more breathing room than a movie does—it's just common sense, right? But does every single story really need to be stretched into fifty or sixty hours of content? There’s just no reason to make things that complicated! You could easily tell those same stories in a few hours, or maybe even ten if you’re looking at something epic like The Godfather trilogy. Why turn everything into a marathon when a sprint would work just fine?

Look, I’m a huge fan of TV series—if they’re actually good and keep me entertained, I don't mind a long run—but let's be real for a second, right? There is absolutely no reason to drag a story out just for the sake of it. Why stretch things thin when you don't have to? Take *Breaking Bad*, for example; that's widely considered one of the greatest shows ever made, and honestly, I feel the exact same way about it. But think about it: could that entire intense narrative not have been told in maybe two hours? Or even better, could they have just turned it into two solid movies, like one two-hour epic and another slightly longer one? If we're being totally honest here, there really isn't a logical reason to pile on fifty or sixty hours of content when the core story could have been finished in a fraction of that time. Is it actually better, or are we just consuming more because it's there?

And honestly, I should probably mention why TV series always seem to snag those higher ratings than movies—it’s pretty simple, right? When you’re following a show for years, you actually start to care about the characters and get genuinely invested in the story, so you naturally end up giving it a higher score. That’s just how most people work!
Look, I don't really see things the way you do—my whole process is a bit different. For me, you can't just lump a movie rating in with a series rating; they’re two totally different beasts. A cinematic masterpiece isn't the same thing as a series that happens to be my personal favorite, you know? I like to keep them strictly separated. Honestly, I actually place a higher value on a movie that I give an 8/10 than I do on a series I give a 10/10, simply because I just weigh the impact of a film much more heavily than a show. Does that make sense? It’s just how I roll.
Look, when I say a series is a 10/10 for me, I’m talking about a straight-up masterpiece—we're talking top-tier, legendary stuff within the entire world of TV. You know what I mean, right? Like, it's not just good, it's absolutely flawless.

William Hall93 said:Look, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against a good series, but I just don't get this whole obsession with bingeing shows instead of watching movies. :-)

A lot of series end up having a disappointing finale or just lose steam in later seasons, leaving you feeling like you wasted a massive chunk of your life. With a movie, you put in an hour or two and then move on to something else.

If you spend all that time on a series where the writing goes completely to hell by season four, you could have easily watched a dozen high-quality movies in that same window.

I totally get where you're coming from, man. Honestly, I've lost count of how many times I've sat there thinking, "Why on earth am I sinking all this time into one single series with a plot that just keeps stretching and stretching forever?" Like, seriously, why commit to one massive, overblown storyline when I could have knocked out a whole mountain of incredible movies in that same timeframe? It really makes you wonder if we aren't just wasting our lives on endless seasons when there's so much cinematic greatness waiting for us!

But honestly... the whole thing really just boils down to whatever kind of mood I'm in at the moment, you know? It all depends on what I'm actually feeling like doing when the time comes!
You know how it goes, right? Sometimes I’ll get into this total groove where I just want to binge nothing but movies for an entire month—just pure, cinematic storytelling from start to finish. But then, other times, I really crave that deep dive, you know? I just want to get lost in a massive story and actually spend some quality time hanging out with the characters, so I'll pivot and spend weeks glued to a great series instead.
Lately, I’ve been leaning into this specific vibe where I just mix things up—you know, watching one movie and then knocking out a few episodes of whatever series I'm currently binging all in the same day? It’s become my go-to routine over the last few years, and honestly, why wouldn't I? It keeps things fresh!

wiredraven82 said:Alright, go ahead then—tell me which one is actually better? And try to be objective for once. 🙂

Man, can we just talk about Mad Men for a second? Seriously, does anyone else feel like they could just get lost in that show for hours on end? It’s one of those rare gems that actually stays with you long after the credits roll, you know what I mean? Every single episode feels like such a deep dive into this incredibly stylized, moody version of mid-century America, and honestly, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it. Is it just me, or is the tension in those office scenes almost suffocating in the best possible way? It’s just masterfully done! 👍

So, if I'm looking at my all-time favorites, Mad Men lands right there at number five, while Game of Thrones takes the sixth spot. It’s honestly such a close call, you know? They’re both absolute masterpieces in my book, but Mad Men just edges it out by a hair—it’s slightly better, though it’s a total toss-up!

Man, Looney Tunes (1963) is hands down the greatest comedy ever made.

The sequels are just as killer, honestly they’re absolute riotous masterpieces.

Seriously, the whole franchise is just top-tier filmmaking.
And here I was thinking I wasn't even part of the action...

...but man, I had such a blast with this that I ended up hunting down movies, scouring for the perfect scene, snapping screenshots, then realizing someone moved their hand and ruined the shot, so I’d have to start all over again! It was honestly such a fun little rabbit hole to fall down, you know? 😁

Of course, I'm the only one besides you who actually took a second to congratulate our winner, Michael Johnson5—so come on, the rest of you guys who jumped in, show some respect and congratulate the winner, that's just how it works!
No, my whole point was really about calling out the cheating and the rule-breaking, because if we're going to have a competition, we should all be playing by the same rules instead of having some people using a sledgehammer while others are just using a pea shooter.
@Michael Johnson5, man, I really respect you for being upfront and owning up to it. That kind of honesty goes a long way.

Honestly, it just feels a bit rigged when someone actually puts in the work—you know, digging through their own movie collection, hunting for that perfect hilarious moment just to snap a custom screenshot—only to have someone else just hop online and grab a pre-made image that’s already floating around out there... and let's not forget, the whole point of the original post was that we should be taking our own shots instead of just scavenging stuff from the web, right?
Melissa Phillips4 said:Look, if you're just sending over a movie, wouldn't it be way smarter to just use a bubble mailer with registered mail instead of a full-on box? Shipping a package would end up being way too pricey, right?
With standard USPS, you're looking at maybe 7 days max, but if you go the registered route, I bet it’d show up even faster—like, just a few days. That's pretty much the standard turnaround when you're shipping stuff to neighboring states here in the US.

You were totally spot on! It actually showed up on the 7th day.😉
Huge congrats to Michael Johnson5 on the big win and grabbing that prize! 👍

But...

Michael Johnson5 said:image

...he didn't really follow the rules, since he used a gif and those wallpapers and then just slapped two merged images together in one post instead of making sure he was posting screenshots in the right size—you know, instead of just throwing stuff in there like it doesn't matter.
It’s honestly pretty sloppy, and it feels like there wasn't any effort to make things look clean and stick to the guidelines.

I feel like that should be a point deduction regardless, because even though the whole goal is to post the funniest screenshot, you shouldn't be breaking the rules while you're at it, right?

Edward Price6 said:Michael Johnson5 for Johnny English.

It was crucial because Michael Johnson5 had two of the top five picks, at least in my book.

Some might disagree, but picking was harder than I expected.

Congrats, and just shoot me a DM with your info.

I'll send over the prize later today.

Nice work everyone else.

Thanks, Edward Price6! I really hope you had as much fun as we did participating (I personally had a blast), and thanks so much for organizing another giveaway! 👍
In August 2014 New Line Cinema Said Final Destination 6 & 7 are to Begin to film in a few Days

I just stumbled upon this on Wikipedia! Tooo !!! 👋👏 So you're telling me they're actually filming right now? 👍

It honestly feels like they’re cooking up something totally different this time around, especially since it's the first time they've ever planned to shoot two sequels back-to-back like this, don't you think?
Man, I’ve officially dived headfirst into this franchise! Honestly, the whole concept just hooked me immediately, and I ended up powering through the first movie all by myself tonight. I was totally ready to jump straight into the second one, but man, exhaustion finally caught up with me... so I'm gonna pick up right where I left off tonight.
Melissa Phillips4 said:Look, if you're just sending over a movie, you're way better off using a padded bubble mailer with tracking instead of a full-on box, otherwise the shipping costs are going to be absolutely insane.
Standard mail usually takes about a week at most, but if you go with certified mail, I bet it'll show up even faster—maybe in just a few days. That's pretty much the standard turnaround when you're shipping to neighboring countries.

Oh, wait, I wasn't actually the one doing the shipping; someone else sent something to me!

So, seven days? Man, that's awesome! I was honestly bracing myself for it to take like two or three weeks to arrive, so hearing it might only take a week is such a relief. 👏

Thanks a ton for the help, catch ya later! 👍
wiredraven82 said:But look, the Winchester brothers already went head-to-head with Mr. Death in the Supernatural series.😁

Still, I get what you mean—it's a solid concept, and I’d definitely tune in.

Anyway, getting back to this whole Final Destination fifth installment thing—it was refreshing to see that the fifth movie actually held its own against the third and fourth entries across the board. So, following that lead, it would be great if someone actually stepped up to handle a sixth film with a real, high-caliber Hollywood script—you know, something substantial. If they need to tweak the established lore or throw in a massive shocker—like that huge twist we saw in the fifth one—they should go for it.

For instance, if I were calling the shots (director's hat on, haha), I’d want to introduce the mystery of WHO—or rather, WHAT—is actually sending those warnings in the first place.😁 Even if it turns out to be some kind of "positive" force, there needs to be that lingering sense of dread.

I honestly won't understand directors who take on a sixth installment only to churn out the exact same formula we saw in the second, third, or fourth movies. Seriously, WTF? At that point, it's just a blatant cash grab.

Maybe we should suggest Wana takes a crack at the sixth one, haha...

I've only ever seen the pilot episode of Supernatural, so is the vibe actually similar to a Final Destination film?

Honestly, you could even pull off a killer parody of Final Destination. Imagine some crazy scenario where someone gets their head sliced off, but they just slap it back on and keep playing the game, or a girlfriend gets torn apart but somehow pulls herself back together because she's got Werewolf blood in her veins... wouldn't that be wild?😂
