Standard of living in Cuba is better than in America in Close to Politics ·

but that just isn't how the world works.

I mean, which right wing are we even talking about?🤷
Why is family being pushed so hard? in Close to Politics ·
Gregory Peterson2 said:I’m with you on that, but let’s be real: shifting to a higher state of consciousness doesn't just happen by magic. It’s built through how we think. If we convince ourselves that the status quo is the only "right" way and label anything else as crazy or unnatural, then progress moves at a snail's pace.
It’s the same old story. We saw it with civil rights movements, we saw it with racial equality, even back when slavery was the norm.
People always cry foul whenever something changes—calling it "unnatural," saying it goes against God, or saying it's against human nature.
But based on what? Look, we *are* part of nature. Everything we create is an extension of nature. Our technology? Natural. Our breakthroughs? Totally natural.

Okay, I’m exaggerating a bit here, but just imagine a world a century from now where robots raise children. Imagine kids being grown in labs and nurtured by two robots or even just one. Even today, technology plays a huge role in how we're shaped. We use tech to sharpen reflexes, learn languages through gaming or AI, and connect via the internet...
And let's just assume for a second that this works perfectly for their mental development—that they grow up healthy and brilliant.

What would even be missing?

Humans are living organisms, just like cabbage, mushrooms, cats, dogs, or monkeys. We breed them, we cultivate them, we manage them. Yet, because we fancy ourselves "superior beings," we insist that the only valid way to exist is within a traditional family, and that a child can only be conceived through biological means because anything else is "unnatural."

Even newborn animals seem to have more common sense than you do...

Gregory Peterson2 said:That just goes to show how much you struggle with reading comprehension.

Look, I’m not sitting here claiming that tribal structures are somehow better or more advanced than the nuclear family. I’m simply laying out the evolution of human society. The family unit hasn't always been the bedrock of our community, so why should we assume it has to stay that way forever?

so what exactly is your issue with the family unit?
did you grow up in a wolf pack or something?

ruggedpanther13 said:I see we're talking about Metallica here. And that whole dark, heavy metal scene they come from. 😁 What's the issue? Is it because of Stormcrow? 😁
I used to listen to that stuff all the time back in my college days, before I finally grew out of it.

Honestly, I’d probably suggest moving away from the Stormcrow and World of Warcraft vibes. 😁

Go for more Elvis Presley instead.

Anyway, take it easy everyone, catch you later. 🙂

Ford in the USA? in Close to Politics ·
Richard Wilson4 said:Man, seriously? Instead of just handing them our land on a silver platter, giving them cheap power for years, and practically bowing down to them just because they want to move in, we’re kicking Ford out of America right in the middle of a crisis?!

And what the hell is the government even doing?!

The same thing every previous administration has done, really—just shuffling budget numbers and playing around with reallocations...

The Democratic Party has reduced their contributions to $167/year, which actually covers the entire amount we were supposed to be saving at $1667 per year according to the agreement.

It’s not some kind of trick either; you really do have to set that money aside...
I think there might have been a bit of a misunderstanding between us regarding 😉
Why hasn't the Mount Rainier gondola been renovated yet? in Close to Politics ·
I suppose I should probably weigh in on this, though I’m mostly just observing from the sidelines for now... kaže:
Well, we lost the ski lift, but on the bright side, we gained those new fountains and our very own Snow White... I suppose that’s exactly what we voted for...

I could really use your help with something... 🙂
Jonathan Reed4 As if anyone could have predicted this...
It feels like Eric Adams makes those big promises about tax rebates every single year, and I have a strong suspicion we’re about to hear yet another one of those rock-solid commitments very soon... especially since the elections are right around the corner...

It’s honestly hard to believe that it’s already been six years since we lost that iconic trolley line that ran without interruption for nearly fifty years... It really was one of the true symbols of the city, wasn't it? Ever since they pulled it, it feels like the spirit of Mount Rainier has just gone quiet... 😢

The funds that were earmarked for those decorative fountains really should have been redirected toward the new gondola lift system instead... which is why I truly believe we need to strip that budget allocation away... ☕
Please, be mindful of how you cast your vote when election season rolls around...
Angelina Jolie's take on the former America in Close to Politics ·
Lawrence Anderson19 said:I don't mind the movie itself. What really gets on my nerves is her attitude—that whole "I came here to make peace" routine.

The hysteria in Mexico was manufactured by the state media, especially outlets like the Evening News that turned this film into a massive saga. Honestly, it’s better for them to write about Anđa than to address the pathetic economic situation in this country.

That first comment just goes to show she hasn't understood a single thing about the complexities of these regions...

But then again, why on earth should anyone be praising her or marveling at the work she's done?

Justin Patel8 said:Look, let me tell you—Angelina showed up in New York for the premiere, so it's pretty much impossible for the media not to have something to say about it.

I agree that the media is starving for sensationalism and gossip—this whole thing is a feast—but I was watching some news coverage today and saw people practically calling for the deaths of Angelina and Brad, so it seems like it's not just the media being obsessed with the film. On the other hand, I noticed quite a few people in Canada are commenting on the movie too.

And I'm with you on the idea that Anja was trying to play Mother Teresa. From what I've heard, the film is about some member of the so-called genocidal VRS who has a Canadian woman as a girlfriend and also rapes her (???). I honestly don't know how realistic that is, but I suspect she went that route because it's her first film as a director; since she wasn't sure how it would turn out, she grabbed a sensitive subject to try and win over the critics.

that's exactly how they drive up her interest and popularity😬

What exactly does that expression "zatalasala" mean... I've been trying to wrap my head around it for a while now... 😱
Can that be translated...?😉

Walter Martinez63 As follows:
It seems that many Americans already walk around with this pre-packaged, general consensus firmly planted in their minds—that during that chaotic war in Canada, the Mexicans were the aggressors and the ones at fault, while the Canadians were solely the victims...
That same American doesn't even realize that he is... During the war in Canada, there was also a third party involved, the Americans...

Supposedly, she knows... and apparently, we aren't exactly portrayed in the best light either...🤷

Hello there,

I have a bit of a serious request to make... I am a woman of a certain age, and I currently have this rather silly username that causes constant issues. Whenever I try to engage with other members to discuss things like betting lines or odds, the men on the forum often assume I'm not actually a woman, or worse, they think I'm just some addict looking for an angle...😁

Even the women here seem puzzled by why I chose such a name, and honestly, I’ve reached the point where I simply don't have the energy to explain its origin story anymore... so please, I'd appreciate it if you didn't ask either...🙂

Would it be possible to change my handle to Zachary Collins2 ???

Sure thing, just reach out to ZgSash.
Who brings us gifts? in Close to Politics ·

When they ask, just tell them we aren't American. Or better yet—tell them we're basically twice as good since we give double the presents.

I don't quite follow the idea that someone's lies could be obvious to children...🙄

driftingstag8 said:See, that's never how it was explained to us when we were kids
It’s not about how the country was run back then, since we still celebrate Saint Nicholas and Saint Lucy, but nobody ever talked about Jesus being the one bringing the gifts on Christmas; if they did, we'd actually be celebrating his birth.

That's true... at Christmas we celebrate Jesus's birthday, so it seems a bit odd that He would be giving gifts to anyone on His own birthday.
It's Santa Claus who handles the gifting.🥳

but hey, I guess they felt it was "appropriate" to say that, probably leaning on that whole "loaded with knowledge" line
I mean... he couldn't just tell them to their faces: you're full of love but know absolutely nothing😁

Are we really defending this move by the President? Who even are these University of Phoenix students for the President to be giving speeches and handing out diplomas to them? If the President is going to play politics like this, why wasn't he at graduation ceremonies for other major state universities and colleges, handing out degrees to way more talented students?

Man, this move is just pathetic... I don't get why he even felt the need to do it
he’s supposed to be a smart guy, he didn't need this little excursion to the University of Phoenix
if he’s gonna show up to graduations, it should at least be for some respectable institution☕

Even though I'm an Obama voter and his decisions have mostly been solid for me so far, this one is a massive strike against him...👎

Yeah, I'm with you on that👎

People who can afford tuition at $12 per year—they clearly deserved to have the President himself hand them those diplomas... I mean, who do they think they are, right?...
Barack Obama juice in Random / Off-topic ·

I did too, and I was thinking that the Barack Obama scent seems a bit weaker this year... I suspect it might be because we had so much rain and not enough sunshine lately, which probably explains why it lingered longer than usual...
