Incredible female vocals!! in Music ·
Once you've had enough of Drake, Christina Aguilera, and all that repetitive rap and hip-hop nonsense, I usually head out to grab some groceries—maybe a couple of pounds of potatoes and some tomatoes. But yeah, listen to this for a change: a few powerhouse female vocalists who absolutely shatter glass when they hit those notes.

Tina Turner was killing it back in the '80s with those love songs. Honestly, the lyrics don't even matter here.

Carole King .. now this voice is powerful, but in a completely different way. She moves effortlessly from soul to pop.

Donna Summer . This Havana girl worked with everyone from Andrew Lloyd Webber and the Bee Gees to Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, and Ian Gillan. You can hear her voice everywhere, providing backing vocals ranging from laid-back reggae to tender ballads and straight-up rock. It’s intense.

Maria Ewing .. an opera singer... man, I was so head over heels for her 😳 ... and she was a total firebrand, too. If you ever want to rent out an opera house, make sure she's on the lineup.

I know plenty of other names, but that's enough for today.😁
Timothy Cox2 said:What's up, Timothy Cox2? Did you have a little too much to drink or something? 😁

Look, it’s just a professional habit... I work in the food industry.😁

Anyway, listen... I’ve seen some names mentioned here that I consider absolute legends, yet you guys are just tearing them apart. Honestly, it’s ridiculous. I don't get how you can do that.😁

By the way, I’d love for someone to post clips of Hugh Grant and Steve Martin. I spent years hating Steve Martin because of his goofy antics, but then I realized I actually adore him.
Have you seen that one where he has Black parents? Or Biko? Or even when he’s helping tourists cross the water? And don't even get me started on his bits from Saturday Night Live.

One more thing... stop mentioning Cameron Diaz. I’ve got a bit of an upset stomach today, so... yeah.😲
Once Upon a Time in America in Movies ·
The premiere is on the 12th.
Timothy Cox2's version set in Mexico cost a mere $7,000 and wasn't anything to write home about. Even Desperado wasn't exactly a masterpiece, though it had its funny moments and The Wolves did a solid job.
Whether you call this the third part or the second—depending on how you look at it—it'll be hitting theaters soon. I'm betting on way too many special effects and over-the-top acting. I'm not expecting top-tier performances, even if the cast is packed with big names.
So, let's get into it... The lead
mariachi is played by Antonio Banderas, just like in the other film, but this time Enrique Iglesias joins him 😲.
We've also got Mickey Rourke, Willem Dafoe, and Salma Hayek.
There are some familiar faces from Desperado too, like Danny Trejo and (one-eyed) Cheech Marin. Plus, Johnny Depp makes an appearance.

The trailer is available to watch online.

I love playing the guitar
I love singing to the sun
The mariachi accompanies me
When I sing my song
First off, my vote goes to Cameron Diaz. Honestly, I've never seen anything more cringeworthy in my life.
Second, my egg hits Jennifer Lopez right in the head. Bud can't sing for beans, let alone act.
Drew Barrymore is in the mix too, obviously. Puuf
Then there's Ben Affleck with that horse face—he's in a league of his own.
Angelina Jolie? Hmm... I'm not even sure if I should say it. My favorite critic says Tomb Raider II is basically like The Godfather I and II because the sequel is just as good as the original. Oh wait, her first movie got a zero rating. Just throw it all away.
As for Lambert... I'm throwing the whole chicken at him.
The last egg goes to Cameron Diaz.
I'm heading out to grab some more eggs.
No Doubt?!? in Music ·
I’m probably out of my depth here, but since nobody else seems to be chiming in, I’ll give it a shot.
They’re all part of the same group, right? If I remember correctly, the lead singer is an American woman.
The only track I ever really heard was that old Alphaville hit, "Big in Japan," which these guys covered in a pretty terrible way. It reminded me of how Madonna handled "Sweet Dreams" by Eurythmics. I used to play online trivia games back in the day, and there was this girl I always competed against who had that same nickname and wouldn't stop raving about them. But honestly, I can't say for sure.
Are their other songs anything like "Big in Japan"?

Man, you guys really brought back memories tonight... reminded me of an old flame of mine from my hometown, though I honestly can't even recall why we called it quits.

You know how they say, "If I actually knew who she was sleeping with now, I wouldn't be losing any sleep over her."

Jason Morgan2: That's it... thanks a million!👍

William Morris2: This one with the Navy is a bit older... actually, way older :d
Nah, thanks 👍

Does anyone happen to have the full lyrics for this song?
"Have you heard the news?
Something bad happened
To John Klakar over at Punat
The ship went down."
I'm struggling a bit to remember the rest... it goes something like...
I'm wearing a black veil... I'm carrying a red scarf to mourn Klakar... but I can't quite be sure...

Also, does anyone know the one that goes... last night while I was doing the laundry, I met a youuuuuung sailor on the shore....

This movie is a dud... I wouldn't dare give it more than a 5/10. It’s totally predictable and honestly just a cheap knockoff of the first two films. The original entries actually had some genuine humor, but you won't find any of that here. To make matters worse, Luc Besson wrote the script for this one too. I can't recommend it. I just really hope they don't try to make a fourth part.

fadedsailor932 said:...if they actually showed some skin, maybe I'd be interested.

I don't know about that. Personally, I find the lead from Charlie's Angels totally unappealing—I really don't get how people find her hot—so that's not an option for me. Honestly, you'd find better curves on a cow eating Hershey's chocolate.

👍

The movie was absolute garbage. American Pie is Citizen Kane compared to this mess. Honestly, I have zero expectations for the sequel... it definitely won't be any better. There's really only one movie out there worse than this, and that's The Sweetest Thing.
If anyone hates something as intensely as Hitler hated the Jews, tell them to watch these movies.

quietorca27: You probably don't see eye to eye with me on this. Just please spare me the "everyone has different tastes" or "well, the soundtrack was good" excuses.
Give me something specific. What actually works in this movie? You can talk about the first one if you want.
Pink Floyd - The Wall in Movies ·
I could live on a deserted island with just The Wall and the Bible. 😁

The DVD includes some cool bonus footage where Alan Parker mentions he’d change quite a bit if he were remaking it today, but honestly, that’s just part of the process.
I actually had no idea that Bob Geldof made his participation in the movie conditional on getting to sing certain songs.
A friend from a small town in Florida (rest his soul) was telling me about when he first picked up "The Wall" at a shop in Miami and listened to it for the first time. He cranked the volume all the way up, and when that helicopter sound kicked in, he genuinely thought one was hovering right outside his window.

Lately, I've had two tracks from *The Mambo Kings Buen Vista social Club* stuck on repeat.

James Jackson9 said:Everyone has different tastes, so there’s really no point in debating it.

James Jackson9: That phrase is such a tired cliché used to dodge an actual discussion that you're better off not saying it at all.
If you actually liked the movie, lay out your arguments.
For me, there are just things about this "great" film that don't add up.
Does the entire city really have to be on the phone at that exact moment, especially in the age of cell phones and the mobile revolution? Wouldn't professional cops notice a massive holster bulge that's impossible to hide under a jacket? Would that many officers seriously show up just to hunt down one guy? Do you honestly think they'd negotiate that much? I doubt it. If the phone calls are happening in real-time, do you really believe his wife could get to him that fast in a massive city like New York? And when he tells those things to that Black guy, everything suddenly clicks. Does traffic really stop for that long just because some crazy person is on the phone? Don't even get me started on the acting...
You seem to think the movie is good. Fine, explain those points above to me, and maybe I'll try to understand or change my mind.
I love movies too, and I've watched plenty of them—like > or >—but I'll admit to myself that those movies are actually bad...
That's just my taste. My taste tells me I'm not into guys, even though I haven't slept with any, and I base that on the fact that there's zero chemistry in a potential relationship like that—even if I might find it interesting. But I'm not going to argue about it; talking about it feels as silly as some ridiculous response from Zeljko Ogresta when someone corners him and he tries to use "sophisticated" humor to save face.

James Jackson9 said:I just watched it and I liked it. It’s a solid movie with a great actor—what more could you ask for?😁 👍

Look, I’m clearly missing something here, so I’ll need an explanation.
I get why you think he’s a good actor (and let's be honest, he's good-looking), but can you actually explain what makes the movie itself so great?
Maybe we weren't even watching the same film?😕
Two Weeks news - nothing special
What's the Worst That Could Happen - analyze that - it's a letdown
Analyze That - way worse than the first one I know by heart
Catch Me If You Can - copy of The Pianist
The Pianist - absolutely excellent
Disney's Fantasia - a total masterpiece
Phone Booth - a disappointment
The Recruit - just something to kill time before you forget it
Ana and King (starring Yul Brynner) - pretty good
How to Kill Your Neighbor's Dog - honestly, this movie blew me away
Phone Booth in Movies ·
This movie was a total disaster... It’s basically just a bunch of scenes strung together without any actual plot, and don't even get me started on the lack of tension. I'm sure we'll be seeing plenty more from Farrell in the future, but this one is definitely a skip.
The only thing that actually worked for me was that song at the end.🙂
Birch belongs to Baba's, and they've been hashing out the story with Collar..
Yojimbo is a masterpiece... There’s this one sequence where a single camera angle captures three different sides of the fight for a solid two or three minutes straight..
Anyway, Leon basically remade it with Clint (for a couple more bucks), and then there's that terrible knockoff starring that "German" guy (Bruce Willis) in Last Man Standing.
Thanks again.👍
I figured I’d toss a few of my favorite movies into the mix too...
*Birch*, *African Queen*, *Fantasies*, *My Fair Lady*, *A Streetcar Named Desire*, *The Jungle*, *The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie*, *Alexander Nevsky*, *Battleship Potemkin*, *Ivan the Terrible*, *Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?*, *8 1/2*, *Bicycle Thieves*, *On the Waterfront*, *The Postman Always Rings Twice*, *Something Happened That Night*, *Farewell, My Concubine*, *Hiroshima Mon Amour*, *Wild Strawberries* (from Bergman), *Yojimbo*, *To the Last Breath*, *Grand Illusion*, *The 400 Blows*, *To Be or Not to Be*, *Journey to Italy*, *Children of Paradise*, *Rio Bravo*, *Andrei Rublev*, *The Seventh Seal*, *Cool Hand Luke*, *A Man for All Seasons*, *Patton*, *The Producers*...
Thanks so much for the recommendations...👍
I’ve already checked most of these out, but you definitely reminded me about a few others...
