I’ll admit this topic feels a bit discriminatory, but I also find it incredibly real and, frankly, quite an interesting question to pose.

To give you a specific example... I have a neighbor who is a lovely, attractive woman 🙂, but she has two cases of schizophrenia in her immediate family—her mother and her uncle. Since we know this condition can be hereditary in many instances, would I enter a relationship with someone like her? To be honest, I wouldn't... both because of her own potential struggles and the risk that our children (if we ever reached that stage 😁) might inherit it too.
With all due respect to those living with the illness, I wouldn't knowingly start a relationship with someone who is either currently struggling or faces a very high probability of developing it.
Of course, I realize it's a completely different story if I were already in a committed relationship where we were deeply in love 😍 and then discovered these facts later on...

I honestly can't remember how it ended 😬 since I gave up about two hours in... but from what I could tell, the runtime was only about two and a half hours, which means it's likely that "European" cut.

Wait, is there actually a second part? As far as I know, it’s only split into two parts in Asia; for all other markets, it’s released as one single entity...

This "epic" film is set during the final years of the Han Dynasty in China.
Director John Woo... at a cost of about $80 million, it stands as the most expensive Chinese production ever made.
A friend who lent it to me was absolutely thrilled with it, praising it beyond all reason, so perhaps my expectations were set a little too high...
The movie feels a bit drawn out (running about two and a half hours), though I don't mind that much. My main gripe, if I have one, is that it delivers that standard "Kung Fu" vibe... when you're hoping for a serious Chinese historical drama without people flying through the air or single heroes taking down 250 opponents without breaking a sweat, John Woo gives us exactly the opposite. Instead of more realistic action sequences, we get the usual tropes. During the massive battle, the primary tactic is just letting a few "one-man army" 😂 characters loose at the decisive moment—characters who are worth at least 1,000 regular soldiers. And just like that, the problem is solved.
I mean... 👎
It really makes you wonder if Chinese filmmakers can produce a historical epic that doesn't follow this exact formula.
That said, I would recommend it to anyone who isn't bothered by those tropes... although the action choreography could have been better handled.
Traffic violation procedures in Criminal and Misdemeanor Law ·
Hello,

I have a quick question.
The police pulled me over this morning because I allegedly failed to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk... but the thing is, the pedestrian wasn't even in the crosswalk yet; they were walking toward it. By the time I cleared the 😁 intersection, they were probably still about two meters away from the actual crossing.
To get straight to the point... the officer gave me a citation, and honestly, I'm not really looking to pay $167. But my question isn't actually about that. A colleague told me that if you haven't had a single traffic violation in the last year (which is true for me), I could potentially go down to the station and they might just "let me off with a warning." In other words, I wouldn't have to pay anything; they'd just issue a formal reprimand instead. 🤷
Does that actually hold any water? Or... I'm worried that if I show up at the station, I'll just end up looking foolish. 🤣

Thanks in advance

Exactly... hypocrisy straight out of a textbook.
Kill, slaughter, maim, burn everything down... anything goes, as long as you don't accidentally show any compassion. 😁
Unrealistic movie tropes and plot holes in Movies ·
I agree with those who mentioned that plot holes or script inconsistencies are far more distracting than missed shots, unlocked car doors, or using the 555 prefix 😁... but since we are on the subject, I’ll add my own observation.

It seems like in American movies, almost all women have sex while wearing bras... I mean, actually taking the bra off during the act—who has ever seen that? It feels like extreme perversion 😬. Similarly, there always seem to be these sheets used to cover men up to the navel and women up to the neck... what a ridiculous invention 👍...

Furthermore, whenever there is a rustle in some dark corner of a house, a garden, a basement, or an attic 😂, some "genius" decides to go investigate it while wearing nothing but pajamas and slippers 🙄. Honestly, if you are foolish enough not to grab a knife, a bat, or whatever else is nearby (not to mention how almost everyone in the US is armed) then you don't deserve anything better than a bloody end 😁. Or take those moments when a villain (whether a human, an alien, or a vampire, whatever 😁) lies still and we all assume they are dead... the hero invariably goes to check on them, whether by turning them over or through some accidental clumsiness... only for that person, alien, or vampire to spring up and struggle with the protagonist. First of all—why don't the main characters watch movies 😁 so they would know that in 99.9% of cases, that creature isn't dead?

Is it really that hard to fire one more bullet, stab them with a knife, or just kick them 😁...
Conan the Barbarian in Movies ·
Oh no... I had this nagging feeling they might cast him for that role, but I just can't see it working. He's fine in certain movies, but that's not Conan to me. Honestly though, I can't think of anyone else who could pull it off... maybe someone like Schwarzenegger back in the day—someone almost completely unknown 🤷

I’ve decided to step back from the need 😬 to go into exhaustive detail about why that total amateur (PJ, obviously) did such a terrible job. It’s in the past now, and there’s no point wasting more breath on it... I can only say I regret that he even filmed it—if nothing else, because it will likely be another 20 or 30 years before anyone even attempts another screen adaptation of LOTR.
In my view, he should have simply stuck to Tolkien and not strayed; every time he decided to deviate (which happened quite often), he just made things worse. But anyway, I said I wouldn't dwell on it.

Regarding Conan... since I read the comics as a kid, I can't even remember who wrote what or when 😬... all I can really do is compare the new Conan to the old one, which is going to be incredibly difficult. To be perfectly honest, I can't think of anyone who could embody Conan better than good old Schwarzenegger 😁 👍

Thulsa Doom isn't actually a thing; he pops up in one of the early stories as a necromancer who kind of gives off Skeletor from Masters of the Universe vibes.
Originally, that character comes from Kull's novels, but in the movie, they basically mashed him together with the actual villain from Conan the Destroyer, which they turned into some minor side character—Thoth-Amon

They also messed up Valeria—she's supposed to be a pirate.

I read Conan, but it was a long time ago... and since you're clearly a fan, I respect your take. For context, I'm a huge fan of LOTR (the books, to be clear), which means my feelings on the movies are 🙂 and 🤮

Since I don't know who the "original" Doom is, his cinematic portrayal is just total nonsense to me. 👍The actor played the part phenomenally, even if it wasn't strictly faithful to the comics, but hey... no one can convince me that the LOTR films aren't complete garbage, even though everyone else treats them like masterpieces.🤷

Hold on, hold on... you're telling me they actually managed to take down Thulsa Doom in the first film? 😕
To me, he remains one of the most formidable cinematic villains ever created... Doooooom 🙏 😁

You’re discussing stoner movies, yet you haven't even seen The Big Lebowski? 🙏 🙏 🙏 👍

It's like someone talking about mobster 🤣 films without having seen Harold & Kumar go to White Castle http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0366551/, or discussing classic American comedies while missing out on a staple like Marathon Runner... honestly, you won't find that one in any local video rental shop, but with all the modern technology at your fingertips... it's a must-watch.
A friend of mine has a best friend who happens to be gay. One time we were all hanging out at her place, and he brought his new boyfriend along. Honestly, that guy was the definition of intolerance—just arrogant, verbally aggressive, and a total disaster. We were all sitting there in disbelief at his behavior. After an evening spent in a rather tense 😂 debate (let’s just say he spent the whole time picking fights with us), her friend ended up breaking up with him 😁

Sure, sure... it's "well documented" 🙄 how many addicts were actually saved from that nightmare by their partners. 👎

Just let him go... you don't need someone like that in your life.

And which one exactly 😁
What causes fetishes? in Psychology ·
It’s an interesting topic, though there might not be one "right" answer... or perhaps a definitive answer just doesn't exist.

To be fair, I’m no expert (I studied psychology back in the day, but that was a long time ago), but in my layman's mind, 😁 I often find myself connecting almost everything related to sexuality to some unconscious trigger or something we experienced or witnessed during our earliest years... like how when I sat down in a high chair for the first time, I had a specific experience 🤣 that left a mark on my sexuality for life... for no real reason.

I wouldn't say I have any fetishes... at least nothing involving inanimate objects. To put it another way—I might find leather attractive, but only if it's worn by a girl I'm actually into. A leather top "on its own," or on someone I'm not attracted to, means absolutely nothing to me... so clearly, I'm not a fetishist. 😁
