Is love a mess? No, even considering some of my great loves had unhappy 🙂 endings, I wouldn't say they were bad. They were beautiful while they lasted... now they are just the past.
And it seems to me you are confusing the concepts of "love" and "infatuation"...

let themselves be made a fool, and I'm telling you they have to be

Now, I honestly don't know how someone could be such a fool as to spend 13 years
being infatuated and letting themselves be walked all over... I suspect that's already the case, and it might not even
have much to do with infatuation at all...
For me, infatuation is total nonsense because, no matter how much I want to, I can't
be completely realistic—not toward myself, and certainly not toward the other person...

As for love, I always have plenty of it... 😍 and for many different people...

Do people honestly believe that Love conquers all? It doesn't. And even that version of Love (at least the kind we see in these threads) is almost always one-sided.
It’s sad—people suffer, endure pain, and humiliate themselves... they push away friends and family and fall into financial or other messes, all for the sake of people who clearly don't love them back.

Consider this my official entry into the club. I’m living abroad with my two daughters—
ages 10 and 5. Thank goodness they're a bit older now, haha. Over the last couple of years,
I've been feeling exactly what you all are describing. Friends call me to go out constantly, but I just don't have

I just find I have nothing to say to most of them. When I finally do find someone I click with

I'm projecting my own exhaustion onto them. Lately, it’s become incredibly
difficult to just relax. I'm a completely different person than I used to be. 🙄
From what I gather, a mizantrop is simply someone who hates humanity.
