I finally found the time to sit down and read this... someone mentioned it felt like an overambitious high school essay, and I suppose they aren't wrong. It’s not so much a matter of style, but rather how many different things they tried to cram into one piece, along with all that palpable frustration. Personally, I find that certain topics mentioned just don't move the needle for me anymore... I really couldn't care less if some local indie bands are making bank, playing what people call "alternative music," and selling out venues... even expensive ones... it truly doesn't matter to me. I guess I've just developed a thick enough skin, and life is far too short to spend it worrying about it. I realized something a few years back, though—that people value completely different things, and for some, music simply isn't a defining factor in their lives. I think that's mostly the case here in the States, where most people just accept these "indie" bands... those people are perfectly fine, and I coexist quite peacefully with them. I can walk past their posters without a second thought, sleep soundly at night, and let it go. To each their own... though country music is a whole different story, at least the author didn't dwell on that too much, so thankfully, I don't have to either...
Regarding the situation with the swamp, I've heard what others had to say, but I won't pretend to offer my own opinion. I wasn't there, so I'll just stay quiet.
All in all, I don't think this is exactly breaking new ground, but then again, perhaps there are people out there who aren't aware of the points the author made in his article... but even if they are, they either don't share his view or they simply don't care... I'm not sure how much would actually change if more people wrote like this or if these kinds of articles were more common... probably not much, I suspect.

I see. 🙂

p.s. let's have a little laugh at Banderas' expense: 🙂

Me too, honestly... I was right there with them... 😍
I thought they were wonderful... such a great sound and vocals... though I guess I already mentioned that to coastalorca3, so there's no point in repeating myself... They mostly stuck to the older material rather than pushing the new album, which I think was for the best since this set had much more of a danceable energy... Overall, they sound incredible live... They played three songs I really loved... It was pretty crowded, but it felt like a good kind of crowd, if that makes sense—I didn't end up getting elbowed in the face or anything. 🙂
What do we think about Franz Ferdinand? in Music ·
banderas said:Anyway, Franz Ferdinand will be hitting the summer festival circuit, so they might end up playing somewhere near 🙂

I just saw this... if they actually show up, I’ll be there... I'll probably bring enough chaos to push through the crowd just to snag a spot in the front row, mostly so I can stare intensely at the lead singer without any distractions, since his look is just so uniquely striking... 😍 and I'll know every single lyric by heart (though my spelling might be a bit off, as I mentioned in my previous post here...)

rutvica said:I suspect that in twenty years, FF (or at least their debut album) will be held in the same kind of reverence we have for eighties pop today. "Dark of the Matinee" might become the next big anthem like something from Dead or Alive. Personally, I love their sound; it puts me in such a good mood that I find myself dancing around my apartment. It’s funny how people who swear by Duran Duran now would have probably dismissed them as mere posers twenty years ago.

Well, if you're blessed with health, luck, and plenty of money... then I suppose I'll be proud of my musical taste many years down the road...
As for Duran Duran, I thought they were absolutely incredible about fifteen years ago... and I was quite fond of They Might Be Giants back then too... 😁

They were quite charming, I suppose... I ended up impulsively buying an original copy over the summer... and then that CD just sat there spinning in my Discman, mostly because I was still nursing a grudge against him and $46 for how much they overcharged me at the local Target... honestly, that CD probably would have given up the ghost if I hadn't realized I might lose my own mind if I played it one more time... so... now $46 is just gathering dust, and I find myself staring at it with a certain level of resentment.
Mean Creek (Redemption on the River) in Movies ·
Go ahead and check it out if you haven't already... I saw it at the Sundance Film Festival myself. It’s true that it was pretty late by the time it wrapped up around 1 AM, and I was exhausted, but I guess the movie left a rather lasting impression on me nonetheless. It carries this strange, lingering mood, perhaps similar to the atmosphere in Elephant... it shifts quite unexpectedly from being funny to deeply sad. That one part where the girl puts together a list of questions and topics for her first date really stuck with me. You guys are something else... 😍
Jason Sullivan91 said:Where exactly does it say "nobody cares" in this thread?

I suppose I'm struggling to grasp the point or the intended reference of this post.

Just... take a deep breath, I guess. Just one deep breath, and then let it out. 🙂
I suppose you're just asking for trouble, kid... 😛
now, I'm not exactly sure about all this.
I suppose... it’s all quite amusing when you have the visuals paired with the audio, though as someone once said, the novelty tends to wear off after a while...
And then you eventually realize that the audio alone, stripped of the imagery, could probably be played on loop in some high-security prison or a county jail without any trouble at all. I mean, if you were to play the entire set three times in a row, just imagine... 😬

blueranger12 said:I wonder if this thread could actually become useful for once? If anyone happens to know where I might find some Radiohead socks!!!111roxsz! I’d certainly be grateful. Ideally, one pair would have Thom's face on them and the other would feature a sad little puppy.

Socks with Thom... 😂 😁
I happen to have a badge with his face on it... though I suppose I'm a bit clumsy, so I'll probably lose it eventually. I guess if anyone wants to claim this lovely little unique piece, they really just need to follow me around day and night and wait for it to fall off... 😛
One-Take Film Festival in Movies ·
Well... I suppose I wasn't thinking clearly... I actually picked this exact weekend to head back home... and I had already made plans to attend that festival... I guess my timing just hasn't been particularly great lately. 😢

Well, I suppose... walking across a rainbow crosswalk when you could just go around where there isn't one... that's pretty gay... 😬
yet I find people looking at me a bit strangely whenever I wear my rainbow hat and gloves with pride. I even have a belt in that style. And okay... I'll admit... I really love s a r e n o .... 😁

My Converse are fixed up... 🙂

p.s. ... I guess... honestly... look what this thread has turned into... first it was the mustaches, then the colors and patterns... I suppose we can just blame it on fashion... 😁
Kevin Chavez3 said:Those sneakers?! You might as well just give them to a junk dealer at this point... 😁

Oh, they're definitely those sneakers! 😍 I spent quite a bit of time cleaning them up, picking all the gum off the soles, and I'm actually taking them to a cobbler tomorrow. I think they'll look almost brand new once they're finished... 🙂 🥳 😳ptimisticgirl:
hollowseal33 said:So I'm the pathetic one? You probably have no idea how difficult it actually is to track that guy down, especially when you're trying to find him just five minutes before a show starts. 😁

Well... thanks... 😁 😘
It seems like everyone on this forum has some sort of grievance with me, I suppose... 😁
man... Kevin Chavez3 really went out of his way to list everything alphabetically... quite the enthusiast... 😁

ah... the Super Suckerers were honestly such a blast... and I think hollowseal33 was sketching those lovely little artistic doodles with a marker on some napkins, making them look so good that everyone else in the band probably wanted one... but I guess that’s gone now... it happened, it's over... and I suppose amberfalcon172 was pretty much caught up in the moment too... 😬 👍 I still have some bruises from that show, and I actually have to take my sneakers to the podiatrist tomorrow to see if they can be fixed... hopefully they'll be okay... 😢

the AMT show was also perfectly fine. It started off being pretty funny, but then things got more interesting. They're actually quite good. If I ever find myself on the lineup again, I might just bring my ID along just to give them peace of mind so they don't have to worry about me... 🙂
I just finished listening to The Stooges, and I suppose there isn't any force on earth that could talk me out of seeing them live... 🙂
As for everything else, I guess there's still plenty of time to sit and think about it...
GENIUS—movie posters from Ukraine in Movies ·
Well... that's quite striking... 😁 I suppose one could wonder where they even found the inspiration for the Kill Bill poster, though who truly knows... and now we'd probably have to hunt for some actual connection between the artwork and the film itself... I guess they did get the casting right with Brad Pitt too, in a way... 😂
R.E.M. in Washington, D.C.!? in Music ·
Why are tickets already on sale? I suppose it might have been easier if they waited until just a couple of days before the show to release them, just to be safe... that way we could avoid another situation where everyone ends up asking for refunds... 😁 Not that I’m trying to be the resident pessimist, though... does anyone know where I can actually pick up tickets? 🙂
Garfield in Movies ·
I’ve always had a soft spot for those massive movie posters—the ones where you see Garfield slumped in an armchair, looking like he’s about to eat himself to death from every angle. My aunt promised me she'd grab some for the theater, I guess. 😍 I suppose I’m looking forward to it, though I can’t quite wrap my head around why everything seems to be dubbed lately. I get that it makes things easier for the little ones who haven't mastered reading yet, but maybe, just maybe, they could show an original version once in a while. 🙄
