For instance, the last Bushido tournament ran from about 8:30 in the morning until 2:00 in the afternoon. To be fair, there were plenty of fights on the schedule, though quite a few of them wrapped up pretty quickly.

It’s just that there are fewer people around, and I assume the practice schedules aren't quite the same.

Minowa comes from a catch wrestling background. This means his style leans toward those unorthodox holds rather than focusing heavily on grinding out perfect positioning; he’s got some decent leg locks, though they aren't exactly jaw-dropping.

He’s essentially a fighter hovering just above a .500 record, someone who's been largely outclassed by more polished opponents... At this point, you really have to wonder how much longer he can hang in the cage.

Back in the day, certain variations were being taught in places like Chicago or Seoul (though I don't think they are anymore), which gave rise to styles like CJJC and such. But honestly, most Ju-Jutsu styles and schools incorporate some level of wrestling and ground fighting anyway, so you aren't missing out. It’s not like Brazilians invented ground combat...

I wouldn't say I'm exactly a huge fan of Terry Gilliam’s filmography, but man, this movie was a total snoozefest. It’s been a long time since I’ve sat through something so incredibly bland and uninspiring. I can't even go as far as to say it was a "bad" movie, because it didn't really leave any impression on me at all. The only thing I can truly say about the experience is how deeply bored I felt from start to finish.

Personally, I thought the movie was great—it’s a sequel that actually lives up to the original Predator.

It’s just not going to work because they’ve completely messed with Dr. Doom's origin story!!! And honestly, that feels like a cardinal sin to me. Why all this nonsense about cosmic radiation when everyone knows that Dr. Doom is actually a master of dark magic? Why do they feel the need to meddle with the comic book classics like this? It’s as if they haven't already botched things with Black Kingpin and Catwoman (I mean, let's face it, Daredevil and Catwoman have probably been some of the worst major studio releases in recent years)... Can you imagine if Blade had been played by Busey??? Now that would be a real disaster. I suppose I'll watch the movie, but only to see with my own eyes what they've done to Doom...

He doesn't deserve this kind of treatment because he is a super-villain with one of the greatest plans ever conceived—he triggered volcanoes on one side of the planet, which knocked Earth out of its orbit and pushed it away from the Sun, causing a whole new ice age!!! Luckily, Spider-Man was able to reverse the process and set everything right again...

A friend of mine watched it and basically called it absolute trash!!! He said the acting was about as good as something you'd see in an adult film... I'm just waiting until I can carve out some free time so I can sit down and enjoy it myself.

I have a decent idea of what Nelsons look like, but thanks for the reminder that they actually exist... Most of my mental imagery comes from pro-wrestling (😳), so I tend to overlook their legitimate roots.
Man, a full-nelson can be brutal (it’s less of a neck-crank and more of a shoulder wrench) if someone strong gets a grip on you; honestly, most people have probably been caught in one at some point without even realizing it.🙂

PS Heel-hooks are allowed pretty much everywhere... ADCC allows them, though you won't see them in lower-level tournaments.

I actually rolled with this one guy recently, and he was pretty solid—honestly, a bit stronger than me, which seems to be the theme of my life! I managed to catch him in a guillotine right out of the gate and tried to pull my guard back in, but he slipped right out of it. As he was getting back up, I attempted to transition into a knee lever, but I just couldn't get any traction because everything was so sweaty. After that, I went straight into defensive mode... I set my guard and just waited. I couldn't move him an inch, and there wasn't enough space to even attempt a sweep from the bottom because he had me pinned flat against the mat; I just couldn't create any room to work. In my struggle to keep things under control, he started working his way through my half guard and eventually transitioned into side control. He went for a kimura, and after a few minutes of fighting it, I just couldn't hold on anymore—my forearms were absolutely burning and I couldn't even keep my grip tight. The kimura locked in, and it was tap-tap.😢
